Hello! The photo is of my friend Mary and her son Nathan. A native of Nebraska, Mary has been a single mom raising Nathan and has had very little outside help. She’s always worked hard to do the best she can for her son, but this time, Mary needs a bit of help. She was diagnosed with AFib in July 2017 and received her first pacemaker. She had to have the pacemaker replaced in May 2025. She will continue to have replacements done as the implant requires. Working in the grocery industry took its toll on Mary’s body, and she sought care from orthopedists in Omaha. She was told multiple times that it was her left hip that was causing her so much pain. She agreed to have left hip replacement surgery, and the surgery was performed on October 31, 2023. During recovery, Mary had complications. She sought an outside consultation and was told her left hip was not the issue. It was her back causing the pain. This is still not resolved and something she is still painfully dealing with on a daily basis. Her increasing medical issues caused the loss of her job and her apartment. She and Nathan are currently living in a motel while she navigates the never-ending confusion that is the healthcare system. She has since been diagnosed with iron deficiency and has to have infusions done every week, causing her to be fitted with another implant to lower complications. It was during this time that she had additional testing done, including a PET scan. Mary received the results of her PET scan on Monday, December 1st. Her diagnosis: stage 1 breast cancer. She has a family history of cancer, having lost both parents to the disease while her sister still fights her own battle. Through all of these issues, Mary still goes on job interviews and follows state guidelines required to keep her insurance coverage. Without a job, the motel room will continue to get increasingly more expensive. She has already applied for disability but needs to be able to take care of the room cost and food for her and Nathan. He does work and helps where he can, but it’s just not enough. I would love to be able to ease the burden of housing for her and find her a suitable place to heal. It’s stressful enough not having a permanent home. Battling this disease means she needs to be as stress-free as possible. If we can’t relocate her, then giving her a way to pay up on her room would be very helpful. Would you please consider donating to Mary’s cause?
