[ENGLISH BELOW] HOOPS IN GOMBA nasce dall’idea di costruire a Kanoni town, nel Gomba District, il primo campo da basket pubblico di quest’area rurale dell’Uganda. Un playground pensato per ragazze e ragazzi della comunità e per le scuole del distretto, come luogo di svago, aggregazione e inclusione, dove sviluppare ed esplorare nuovi talenti. Il progetto è patrocinato dal Buganda Kingdom, ideato e realizzato insieme alla comunità locale, ai rappresentanti delle scuole del distretto e alle ong Friends of Children in Gomba (FCG) e POA Projects APS. Io sono Andrea Lamperti, giornalista sportivo, giocatore e allenatore di basket. Da tempo opero con la comunità di Kanoni e con FCG per contribuire al futuro dei tantissimi giovani che vivono - con poche risorse, e ancora meno opportunità - in questa regione dell’Uganda centrale. Dopo aver collaborato allo sviluppo del network di Friends of Children in Gomba e dopo una raccolta fondi dedicata alle scuole , con cui abbiamo sostenuto (e continueremo a sostenere) i rifornimenti di cibo e altri beni di prima necessità per centinaia di bambini, il passo successivo è un nuovo luogo di sport e inclusione. DESTINATARI E REALIZZAZIONE Perché un campo da basket? Perché il gioco - maschile e femminile - è in forte crescita a Kampala e nelle altre città ugandesi dotate di strutture, ma è ancora distante da aree rurali come il Gomba. Qui oltre al calcio si gioca tantissimo - soprattutto le ragazze, dentro e fuori le scuole - a netball: un ponte naturale per il basket e un giusto punto di partenza per promuovere uno sport senza barriere. Il playground sarà in una posizione centrale a Kanoni, su un terreno concesso dal Buganda Kingdom a pochi passi da una scuola pubblica e da un campo da calcio, il più frequentato del villaggio. L’obiettivo è creare un nuovo spazio pubblico, sicuro, aperto a tutte e tutti; un luogo di incontro per riunire i giovani attraverso lo sport, ma dedicato anche ad attività scolastiche e comunitarie. E per nuove occasioni di sviluppo del talento, che un domani - come avviene per calcio e netball - si possa tradurre in borse di studio o inviti a programmi sportivi più strutturati. Oltre al campo il progetto prevede, compatibilmente con i fondi raccolti, alcune strutture accessorie di pubblica utilità: illuminazione (pannelli solari, luci), accesso (ingresso, recinzione), aree per giocatori e spettatori. E come sempre nell’ambito dei progetti FCG, l’intero processo creerà nuove opportunità di lavoro all'interno della comunità. In ogni sua fase: dalla preparazione del terreno alla costruzione del campo, fino alla sua manutenzione e alle successive attività. Ricorrendo sempre a imprese e lavoratori del posto, e coinvolgendo costantemente i rappresentanti scolastici e della comunità. RUOLI E TIMELINE Il progetto è il frutto di un lavoro di squadra tra: Andrea Lamperti, promotore del progetto, responsabile della raccolta fondi e punto di riferimento in loco per la realizzazione del playground; affiancato da un team di amici e collaboratori per coordinare le attività necessarie all'avvio del cantiere e alla promozione/gestione della raccolta fondi; Friends of Children in Gomba, ong comunitaria locale che insieme a un gruppo di volontari lavora ogni giorno con scuole e famiglie del territorio; POA Projects APS, associazione di promozione sociale italiana che gestirà i fondi raccolti e curerà la parte di progettazione, garantendo un approccio consapevole nella scelta di soluzioni e materiali; il Buganda Kingdom, che ha concesso il terreno a condizioni vantaggiose e offre supporto logistico, oltre a un contatto diretto con il sistema scolastico per le fasi successive. Per questioni organizzative e climatiche, la costruzione è prevista possibilmente durante la stagione secca nel Gomba. Fase 1 (inizio 2026) - Definizione del progetto, scelta della ditta di costruzione e degli interlocutori locali per la realizzazione, in partecipazione con la comunità e tutte le parti coinvolte; Fase 2 (primavera 2026) - Lancio della campagna, raccolta fondi e organizzazione delle fasi operative successive; Fase 3 (estate/autunno 2026, in base all’andamento delle fasi precedenti) - Avvio del cantiere (preparazione del terreno, predisposizione dell’area, getto della superficie); Fase 4 (estate/autunno 2026, in base all’andamento delle fasi precedenti) - Inaugurazione del campo e avvio delle attività. L’obiettivo è avere il campo completato e pienamente utilizzabile entro il 2026. FONDI E TRASPARENZA L’obiettivo della prima fase della raccolta fondi è di 20.000 euro. Questa somma servirà a coprire: la messa a disposizione del terreno, lo studio tecnico e il progetto edilizio; la predisposizione dell’area; la costruzione della superficie di gioco per il campo da basket; l’installazione di tabelloni, canestri, verniciatura e tracciatura delle linee; le strutture di servizio intorno al campo; la copertura dei costi vivi delle risorse umane coinvolte. I fondi raccolti saranno ricevuti da POA Projects, che gestirà la raccolta in maniera tracciata e trasparente, devolvendo il 100% delle somme ricevute. Ogni spesa e avanzamento del progetto saranno rendicontati ai donatori, con aggiornamenti periodici come nelle precedenti campagne. IMPORTANTE: POA Projects permetterà ai donatori, dove la normativa lo consente, di beneficiare di agevolazioni fiscali sulle donazioni effettuate. Per richiedere ricevuta a fini fiscali della tua donazione è necessario compilare l’apposito modulo online, fornendo all’associazione le informazioni necessarie per l’emissione del documento. A playground designed for the girls and boys of the community and for the district’s schools, a place for recreation, togetherness and inclusion, where new talents can be developed and explored. The project is sponsored by the Buganda Kingdom and has been designed and carried out together with the local community, representatives of the district’s schools, and the NGOs Friends of Children in Gomba (FCG) and POA Projects APS. I am Andrea Lamperti, a sports journalist, basketball player and coach. I have been working with the community of Kanoni and with FCG for some time to contribute to the future of the many young people who live – with limited resources and even fewer opportunities – in this region of central Uganda. After helping to develop the Friends of Children in Gomba network and launching a fundraising campaign dedicated to schools, through which we have supported (and will continue to support) the supply of food and other basic necessities for hundreds of children, the next step is to create a new space for sport and inclusion. BENEFICIARIES AND IMPLEMENTATION Why a basketball court? Because the game – both for men and women – is growing rapidly in Kampala and in other Ugandan cities that have facilities, but is still far from rural areas like Gomba. Here, in addition to football, another sport is played a lot – especially by girls, in and out of school: netball. It is a natural bridge to basketball and a perfect starting point to promote a sport without barriers. The playground will be in a central position in Kanoni, on land granted by the Buganda Kingdom just a few steps from a public school and a football pitch, the most frequented in the village. The goal is to create a new public, safe space, open to everyone; a meeting place to bring young people together through sport, but also dedicated to school and community activities. And to create new opportunities for talent development which, in the future – as already happens with football and netball – can translate into scholarships or invitations to more structured sports programmes. In addition to the court itself, the project also includes, depending on the funds raised, the construction of some complementary public-use structures: lighting (solar panels, lights), access (entrance, fencing), areas for players and spectators. And, as always in FCG projects, the whole process will generate new job opportunities within the community, at every stage: from land preparation to the construction of the court, to its maintenance and the activities that will follow. We will work with local companies and workers as much as possible, and constantly involve school and community representatives. ROLES AND TIMELINE The project is the result of a team effort between: Andrea Lamperti, project promoter, responsible for fundraising and on-the-ground contact person for the construction of the playground; supported by a team of friends and collaborators to coordinate the activities needed to launch the construction works and to promote and manage the fundraiser; Friends of Children in Gomba, a local community-based NGO that, together with a group of volunteers, works every day with schools and families in the area; POA Projects APS, an Italian social promotion association that will manage the funds raised and oversee the design side of the project, ensuring a conscious approach to the choice of solutions and materials; the Buganda Kingdom, which has granted the land on favourable terms and offers logistical support, as well as a direct connection with the school system for the following stages. For organisational and climatic reasons, construction is planned, if possible, during the dry season in Gomba. Phase 1 (early 2026) - Project definition, selection of the construction company and local contacts for implementation, in collaboration with the community and all stakeholders; Phase 2 (spring 2026) - Campaign launch, fundraising, and organisation of the following operational phases; Phase 3 (summer/autumn 2026, depending on the progress of the previous phases) - Start of construction works (land preparation, site setup, pouring of the surface); Phase 4 (summer/autumn 2026, depending on the progress of the previous phases) - Court inauguration and start of activities. The goal is to have the court completed and fully usable in 2026. FUNDS AND TRANSPARENCY The goal of the first phase of this fundraiser is €20,000. This amount will cover: • securing the land, the technical assessment, and the building/construction plan; • preparing the site; • building the basketball court playing surface; • installing backboards and hoops, plus painting and line marking; • the supporting facilities around the court; • covering the direct, out-of-pocket costs of the people involved in the project. All funds raised will be received by POA Projects, which will manage the fundraiser in a traceable and transparent way and allocate 100% of the donations to the project. Every expense and project milestone will be shared with donors through periodic updates, as in our previous campaigns. IMPORTANT: Where allowed by local regulations, POA Projects will enable donors to benefit from tax deductions/relief on their donations. To request a tax receipt, you will need to fill out the dedicated online form, providing the information required for the association to issue the document.
