</div>
<div>This fund, started in the spring of 2020 to help support family shelters in Mexicali, Baja California. The shelters house refugees coming from many parts of Central and South America. These families and members of the LGBTQ community are fleeing violence and sometimes natural catastrophes in their native countries.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This Go Fund Me page was established by Migrant Child Watch to support shelters for homeless refugee families. Posada del Migrante and Refugio del Migrante are both operated by COBINA a local human rights organization. Altagracia Tamayo, Director of COBINA, is trusted and heralded local activist. The money we raise is given immediately in cash or supplies to shelters.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mexicali is the capital city of Baja California with a population of over a million people. The city receives thousands of people fleeing the violence throughout Mexico, Central, and South America. In Mexicali and at “Points of Entry” all along the Southern U.S Border regions most shelters on the Mexican side are substandard, crumbling buildings.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During the school year the COBINA Shelters provide classes for school age students and English classes for adults. Almost all the residents in these shelters are applying for asylum in the United States through legal means. At the shelters they receive help filling out the applications for asylum.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This shelter does not receive funding or support of any kind from governments or their agencies. They depend completely on private donations and although many people wish to help, there is never quite enough for the large wave of migrants fleeing violence or political persecution.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All the residents at Posada del Migrante receive assistance filing their asylum requests and legal documentation to enter the United States legally. Posada del Migrante is a 22 room two story repurposed motel. This shelter houses, feeds, and cares for as many as 350 people daily.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The refugees arriving on the streets of Mexicali after months long journeys to the Border of The United States are tired, hungry, and vulnerable. They need the safety and security the shelters can provide. Although they are very short on resources, Posada del Migrante requires no payments from their residents. The shelters provide 3 meals per day and free medical care for as long as
</div>
<div>need to stay.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Migrant Child Watch continues to be busy to collecting and delivering food and supplies to the COBINA shelters. We have generated support in communities of Imperial County, San Diego County, Bakersfield, California and far beyond thanks to people using this GoFundMe page. The need is great and we ask for your help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have talked to many of the migrants and have heard terrifying stories of how they are fleeing danger from organized crime as well as from oppressive governments. When we deliver food and supplies to the shelters, we meet hundreds of grateful people full of hope and anticipation looking forward to joining family members in the U.S. and finding work.

<div>M Hello my friends, I am Rami Hamad, my wife Shorouq and our daughters. Today we need you more than ever. After a year and a half of genocide, we lost everything: our home, our pharmacy and our loved ones. I hope you will help us return to northern Gaza.And rebuild our home, our pharmacy and our lives. We need everything now and unfortunately we don’t have anything. Please don't leave us alone, I'm counting on you
</div>

Help my family survive and escape the genocide in Gaza,

<div>Muhammad Jaber Al-Naami, his pregnant wife Maryam, and their son Khaled (who is a year and a half old) need our help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The family is living in the wreckage of their home, which was bombed. Winter is coming and food is hard to come by. Muhammad has a chronic condition and Khaled has a skin infection. Life is very difficult and the family relies on their deep faith to stay strong.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/82861205_1726689675469127_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My name is the Rev. Lauren Grubaugh Thomas, I am an Episcopal priest in the United States who has been in regular direct touch with the family. I am organizing this fundraiser to help the family meet their basic needs for food and shelter, as well as transportation and medicine.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Here is more of their story:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The family is from Al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza. Muhammad was already unemployed before the war (as many Gazans were under the blockade), but says he used to live a decent life. Here he is before the war.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/82861205_1726689729631741_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After the war began, his home was bombed. The family became homeless and are now living in a small room of their completely destroyed house, which offers little protection from the rain and elements. (You can see a video of the ruins of the house here: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_3z-knIKBL/)" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_3z-knIKBL/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.instagram.com/p/C_3z-knIKBL/</a>)</a>

<div><br />
</div>
<div>“We are now approaching winter, and I cannot protect my wife and son from the rain, and I only want something to protect them,” Muhammad says.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He hopes to meet the family’s basic needs with this campaign. He also hopes to open a shop to sell goods in order to make some income for his family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Muhammad suffers from a chronic condition called Gaucher disease, which causes enlargement of the liver and spleen. He used to receive treatment every 15 days, but since the war began, procuring the treatment has been difficult.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Khaled has contracted a skin infection, as many people have in Gaza due to the lack of clean water.
</div>
<div><br />

<div>My name is Bashar Al-Bilbisi, a pharmacist, director of Al-Fursan Arts Troupe, a popular Dabke trainer, and a theater artist. I live in Gaza and am currently displaced with my family to Rafah. I have always been against anyone leaving Gaza and I always perform dance performances and plays that aim to raise awareness among the community and the youth. Not to leave Gaza, but with all pain, I am here after 180 days of war, talking to you to help my family to leave Gaza because of the ongoing war and because the situation is getting more dangerous day by day in Gaza.
</div>

<div><br />
</div>
<div>After a week of war, we were displaced from Gaza to Rafah. My family and I (my father and mother, my brothers Baraa and Badr, and my sisters Kenzi and Masa) were forced to leave behind our home, our memories, our friends, and our dreams. After that, we learned that our home in Gaza had been bombed, and after that the family home where we were gathering was bombed. In it, the theaters were destroyed and all the cultural places where I used to perform on an ongoing basis were destroyed.

<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I am a pharmacist and a dancer. I can heal the soul and people through art, and I always try to find a solution to help people. During the war, I started going to a medical point to help treat those displaced in the war. After that, I produced the film “An Attempt to Survive” for my team, the Al-Fursan Arts Troupe, which was speaking about their suffering in this war and their request to stop the war, and we were able to show the film in more than one country so that they would remain in solidarity with the Palestinians and their demonstrations, to call for an end to the war, would not stop.
</div>
<div>I began training children in popular Dabke in displacement camps for many days to use dance and art as a basic means of relieving children, expressing their suffering, and opening dialogue sessions with children to relieve them of this war.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79325581_1712349972512836_r.jpeg" width="100%" />

<div><br />
</div>
<div>My brother Baraa is an engineer who had his job in Gaza. He also worked online to design and build homes for people outside Gaza, but with this war all his work stopped. He was also part of the team and helped train children in the displacement camps.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79325581_1712421758278085_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My brother Badr is a first-year student in the College of Pharmacy. But the university where he was studying was destroyed, so he needed to leave and complete his education outside Gaza.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/79325581_1712350073433764_r.jpeg" width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As for Kenzi, who is a 9-year-old girl who is always talented in Dabke, a special movie was filmed of her telling her story and narration to convey her message to the world, and she also helped train the children. Those close to her age teach them the popular Dabke, and Masa is a child who is only one year and 9 months old. She does not deserve all this suffering in this war.

<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Despite the circumstances we are going through in Gaza and all the difficulties, I will remain in Gaza to continue helping people, and I hope that you will help us get my family out of Gaza, due to the difficult conditions we are suffering from, and to complete the rest of their dream and to become in a safer place, and after this war ends, we will all return to building Gaza, which we love always and forever.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Three months before the war, I was on a screening tour in France for the film Yalla Gaza, and there I presented popular Dabke shows in 12 cities. We carried the message and identity of the people of Gaza, expressed their suffering, and exchanged cultures. My dream was to go to all the theaters of the world to show them our heritage and the popular Dabke, but unfortunately all of these dreams went away with this war and I only dreamed that I and my family would survive this war.

</div>
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
