The Cape Elementary Odyssey of the Mind Team, made up of talented 4th and 5th graders, has accomplished something truly remarkable this year. After months of designing, planning, creating, and practicing, these dedicated students not only won first place at the Regional Tournament, but also achieved a perfect score and first place at the Florida Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament! Their winning solution required the extensive use of recyclables and the engineering of a mechanical device, showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

 Odyssey of the Mind is a program that challenges students from kindergarten through college to independently create solutions for complex problems. The Cape Elementary team, all in elementary school, spent over 150 non-school hours preparing for both their long-term problem and the high-pressure "Spontaneous" challenge, where they had to think quickly and work together to solve a surprise problem on the spot. Through this experience, the students have developed valuable skills in engineering, math, budgeting, time management, leadership, and public speaking.

 Their incredible wins at both the Regional and State levels have earned them an invitation to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Iowa State University at the end of May. However, attending World Finals comes with significant costs, including registration fees, travel expenses for the team and their families, and prop transportation. We are actively fundraising and seeking support from organizations and individuals who believe in empowering local youth. We have sponsorship packages available upon request for businesses and organizations, but also know the power that individual donations can make—every contribution helps! The support of our community means so much to these kiddos, and we are deeply grateful for any contribution. Please consider being part of our team's journey and helping these students bring their performance and creativity to the highest level of Odyssey of the Mind competition!

Cape Elem Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

<div>As many of you know Kelsey Meadows and Nicholas Bezanson’s 2-year-old daughter Hayden was diagnosed with leukemia - ALL (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia) on August 15th. They noticed Hayden was bruising easily and was starting to look pale. On August 14th they brought her to the doctor for a blood test and were told to bring her into Golisano Children's Hospital immediately. Since being admitted, Hayden went through a bone marrow procedure, received blood infusions, went through a central line placement procedure, and started chemotherapy. We don't know how long they will be in the hospital, but her treatment plan will most likely last two and a half years.

<div>As some of you know, Nick and Kelsey both work as police officers for the Cape Coral Police Department. Their PTO (Paid time off) will be used up quickly, and they will, unfortunately, have to return to work sooner than they would like. They will be unable to cover all financial needs, housing, food, transportation to chemo sessions, medical supplies, medication, and childcare. We are hopeful in Hayden’s recovery, but they have a long road ahead. To alleviate the financial stress, I'm asking for any support, no matter how small, anything will help during this tragic time in their lives.

Hayden's Leukemia Fight

<div>Our close friend is facing the unimaginable, his baby girl is sick. Recently diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, Baby K (3 years old), is embarking on her biggest fight yet. This family is facing the reality we would never wish anyone to be in. Our goal to is to offer support for all ancillary expenses they are facing so these parents can focus on what matters most, supporting and caring for their baby.

<div>In order to give her the best chance of retaining her sight, she must travel monthly to Bascom Palmer at University of Miami. Unfortunately, this lifesaving and medically necessary treatment is out-of-network with their insurance, so the family is expecting to incur very high out-of-pocket costs.

<div>To tell you more about this deserving family - Baby K is blessed with a wonderful mother and father and an older sister (8-years-old). Baby K's father is the hardest working man, who constantly shows up for others. He works in the medical field taking care of patients who are in need of respiratory services. Baby K's mother is an RN in the emergency room and the one who identified her daughter's cancer.

<div>This diagnosis comes as a giant blow to this family after burying their grandfather, who sadly lost his battle with cancer, only just a month ago.
