Cody Carter is my wonderful son-in-law, and I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow from a young teenager into a devoted husband and loving father. He’s the kind of person who always puts his family first, working tirelessly to make sure his children and wife have everything they need. With two little ones at home and a third baby on the way, Cody has always found a way to provide, no matter the challenge. Yesterday, Cody was in a terrible car accident that left him hospitalized at Baptist Hospital. He suffered a broken leg and may have broken his left ankle as well. Tomorrow, he will undergo surgery on his right leg. The accident has turned their world upside down—Cody is the sole provider for his family, and now he faces months of recovery without the ability to work. To make matters even more difficult, their only vehicle was totaled in the accident, and his wife is experiencing complications with her pregnancy, requiring frequent trips to Winston to see specialists. The funds raised will help cover transportation, gas, food, and mounting medical bills, as Cody has no health insurance. They will also help with hospital expenses, the many trips back and forth for both Cody’s recovery and the baby’s care, and help keep a roof over their heads and the lights on for their children. Cody and his wife are an amazing young couple, working hard to build a future for their family. They had hopes of buying a home this year, but this accident has brought unexpected setbacks. We come to you with a heavy heart, asking for prayers and support from our community. If you can help Cody and his family now, it would mean so much to them as they work to keep their children safe, fed, and cared for during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated.
Ronda Brewer, a 65-year-old grandmother in Surry County, North Carolina, has dedicated the past 18 years to raising her five grandchildren—Nathan (18), Caden (16), Aubrey (11), Jackson (9), and Waylon (3). Despite her own health challenges, including COPD and living on a fixed income, Ronda has provided a loving and stable home for the children throughout their lives. Their parents have struggled with addiction and have never been involved in their lives, leaving Ronda as their sole support. She receives only SNAP benefits, which barely cover the basics, but she has always made sure the kids are cared for and together, refusing to let them be separated or enter the foster care system. Recently, Ronda’s world was turned upside down. After a family dispute and an unfortunate accident involving her daughter’s vehicle, her landlord has asked her to move out of the only home the children have ever known. Ronda has explored every possible resource—homeless shelters, government housing, and Section 8 programs—but nothing is available. Now, she faces the urgent need to find a new place to live, ideally closer to her sister in Wilkes County, so she can have family support. The funds raised will go directly toward securing a safe and stable home for Ronda and the children, covering the security deposit, first and last month’s rent, moving expenses, and much-needed repairs to her aging van. Every donation will help keep this family together and give them a chance at stability during an incredibly difficult time. Ronda’s strength and love have kept her grandchildren safe and together against all odds. Supporting this fundraiser means helping a grandmother who has given everything for her family, ensuring these five children continue to have the home and care they deserve.
