<div>Since coming to Israel, I've met amazing people who have become like family to me, extending their generosity and opening their homes and hearts. All were instrumental in my journey toward success. I’ve lost count of the moments we’ve shared around the dinner table on Shabbat, the prayers, songs, sufganiyot, and lighting candles during Hanukkah, or the times spent in the sukkah or cycling on open roads during Yom Kippur. These experiences have shaped me into someone tolerant and accepting.

<div>Similar to my own limited interaction with Israelis prior to 2018, many of the Israelis I encountered had never interacted with a Palestinian before meeting me. I believe and hope that through my interactions with them, I was able to present a positive image of the Palestinian people, fostering understanding and breaking down stereotypes. Although there are forces that spread hatred, division, and thirst for blood, often setting us back and undoing progress. I remain hopeful and determined to build bridges and use my voice to speak up, even if it puts my life at risk - positive change, peace, and progress require us to make sacrifices.

<div>The people I met in Israel became like a second family to me, which is why I didn’t hesitate to publicly denounce and condemn the terror attacks on October 7th. After all, who would ever wish harm upon their own family?.

<div>I knew it could have dangerous repercussions for me, but I couldn’t remain silent. Though this decision came at a cost, resulting in the loss of many friends, connections, and relationships, and even being called a 'traitor' with threats to my life, I felt compelled to speak out.

<div>I still believe it was the right decision, and I have no regrets. I will always hold onto hope—a hope that one day, both peoples can coexist in peace because I experienced it firsthand. I lived it and saw that it is indeed possible. However, first, I believe that we need to eliminate and stand together against the terror groups responsible for the division, horror, and hatred and that's why it was important for me to speak up.

<div>It has been very difficult for me ever since. I feel isolated and unsafe where I currently live in the West Bank as my life turned into a living hell. I'm constantly afraid and unable to leave my house and trying to find a way to escape here.

Support for Jesse and Bethany Morgan and family

<div>Solanni's story revolves around Albert and Albelis who were both born under a pound in 2017.
</div>
<div>Solanni, a 29-year-old single mother, gave her all to care for them. It was a challenge she took on with the help of St. Christopher Children’s Hospital in north Philadelphia. She was living in an apartment in the Harrowgate neighborhood of north Philly. In dire need, she received food and other assistance from neighboring churches. After seven months the babies were able to go home with an assortment of medical paraphernalia to sustain them including oxygen tanks and a heart monitor.
</div>
<div>It took some time, but they began to get stronger. Their health was marginal at best, but what they lacked in wellbeing, Solanni made up for with her intense devotion to them. Three Catholic churches and a Mennonite church reached out to her to help occasionally with donations of food and money. Relatives helped as much as possible. Today, Albert and Albelis are 7 years old. Their mother takes them for weekly visits to see doctors and receive therapy at St. Christopher’s. At home, Solanni keeps the environment clean and free of dust because of the children’s breathing problems. In addition to the asthma that both twins have, Albelis has a hole in her heart and will require surgery to correct her pigeon toes; Albert is dealing with failing eyesight, retinal detachment and a chronic neurological problem. Both are diagnosed with autism.
</div>
<div>Solanni spared no effort to find a school for them that would meet their needs. Indeed, one school, had to admit they were not equipped to deal with the children’s conditions. She is constantly searching for the best educational setting for them.
</div>
<div>In addition to caring for her children, she has a vision to better herself. For example, undaunted by her limited English and her own health concerns and with the help of family members who cared for the children during the day, she took night classes and earned an associate degree from Esperanza College in Family Care. She longs to continue her education toward a BA degree in social work. Something else she longed for was to become a U. S. citizen. She studied the required materials and was granted citizenship in 2022.
</div>
<div>But the dream of continuing her studies had to be put on hold. She needed a job. She needed money to replace her car which had been stolen and trashed. She needed money to pay for the damage caused by thieves who broke into the house. She got help from the city of Philadelphia to buy a house, but after 4 years it was repossessed for failing to keep up on payments. She just didn’t have a good job. During the pandemic she worked as a business manager in a restaurant, but the restaurant closed due to a lack of customers. Despite the setbacks she continues to take the children to weekly doctor’s appointments. The children’s father came home long enough for Solanni to get pregnant, but he was deported to the Dominican Republic. The third child, 5-year-old Sodelis, was born prematurely as well. However, she is a stronger child than her siblings.
</div>
<div>Solanni loves her children intensely. For their sakes she has not given up. She even has gone so far as to apply to the U.S. Army. She took the test but failed the English comprehension portion. Now she is caring for a woman at night and sleeps when she can. When she fell and broke a finger, she had to work despite the almost unusable left hand.
</div>
<div>What does the future hold for Solanni? With the help of friends and the kind people who learn of her plight, she is optimistic. The challenge of raising her children by herself only seems to intensify her resolve to achieve her dream.
</div>
<div>Solanni struggles to pay the bills, continue learning English and achieve a better future. She is looking into becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant so that she can earn a living wage. She is always searching for something better—a better job, better education for her children, more adequate housing. With the help of friends, she will fulfill the dream of a home that suits her family and allows for her children to flourish.

Empower Solanni's Journey Towards Stability

This was a shock to all of us as Christa was so young and full of life. She was a light in everyone’s life and truly brought joy and happiness to every room she walked in. Paying Tribute to Christa Teel

<div>Hi, my name is Liz Pankewicz, and I have been a teacher in the Brick Township School District for ten years. Less than two months ago, I was given the devastating diagnosis of a Grade 3 malignant astrocytoma - a form of aggressive brain cancer that currently has no cure.

<div>My husband works for Brick Township too, and we both grew up in Brick, have lived in Brick most of our lives, and are still living in Ocean County. We are lifelong active community members. We are hoping our community can now help us, as we’re not sure how to proceed with our current circumstances.

<div>I have used my personal sick days as of February 7. Come March, 8th, 2023 I will be out of the 20 sick bank days granted to me by my union. Having exhausted all my options, I will go on unpaid FMLA so I will lose my income and will have to pay out of pocket to keep my insurance coverage for my so that I may continue to receive treatment.
</div>

<div>On the evening of Dec. 30th, my husband woke in the middle of the night to find me having a seizure. As a result, I went to the ER, where the doctors treating me discovered a large brain tumor in my right hemisphere. In the following weeks, I made an appointment at UPenn for an awake craniotomy, a seven hour procedure that left me unable to speak or read for two weeks. I have since worked with medical professionals to slowly regain my communication abilities, though there are still many other side effects of this invasive surgery that I face daily.
</div>

<div>Because it is grade 3, further aggressive treatment needs to be done. So in one week, I will be a given a total of 33 rounds of proton radiation, five days a week. Shortly after that we will start chemotherapy for a year. We are hopeful, that this treatment can at least delay when the tumor comes back, or become a higher grade.
</div>

<div>I have had to swallow my pride, because I don’t want my young family to go into financial ruin. I am asking for my community to help cover me through my recovery from surgery &amp; radiation, loss of salary, my husband’s reduction in salary through NJFLA, daycare for my son who is four, travel expenses, and bills. Liz’s Cancer Treatment

<p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;">1,300 days. That’s the number of days it’s been since doctors told me in the ICU that my Dad was septic and his body was failing. 1300 days since a rare infection had spread through his body and there were no good answers as to how to move forward. 1300 days of struggle, determination, and hope until today (12/3/21), the day of his lung transplant - and we couldn’t be more grateful…
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">My Dad’s story: 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">My Dad, John, was diagnosed with COPD and emphysema in the late 90s/early 2000s. His lung disease, prior to 2018, had never slowed him down. He’s a worker - someone who perseveres without complaint. 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">He was working full-time until he became unusually sick on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018. Our family was told he might not make it, that he was declining faster than they could figure out how to help him - but alongside my Dad - my brother Mike, my sister, Tara, my mom, Tracy, and I were determined to help him survive. We took shifts, staying with him in the hospital to oversee his care and help him fight for his life. While it took nearly 3 months, we were able to help him as he regained enough strength to move off of the ventilator and return home. 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">It was during this time that we were told that Dad needed a lung transplant and, if desired, to start the process immediately - which we did with Temple Lung. During the initial screening process which included over a month of testing and appointments, we were devastated to learn that he had developed prostate cancer and could not proceed with the transplant until he was 2 years in remission. 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">After completing his treatment and beating prostate cancer, we were right back at Temple Lung at the conclusion of the 2 year window. He completed all of the initial transplant testing and was put on “The List”. 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">What some people may not realize is that the average cost for a single lung transplant is $900K-1M. While his insurance will cover a portion, it does not cover most of the anti-rejection medication he will need to be on for the rest of his life. It also doesn’t cover deductibles, copays, travel back and forth to the city, tolls, parking, and medical equipment among other things. Medication costs alone are at least $1400+ per month - every month - for the rest of his life. 
</p>

<p class="p2" style="line-height:normal;min-height:22px;">My Dad’s quality of life will so greatly improve once he heals from this surgery. It will be a life long job to be diligent and stay on top of his medications and health to make sure this lung is able to give its full potential, but we know he has the right mindset and will to succeed! In fact, right before going back into surgery he said, “I’m so excited to breathe!” Last week we even made a list of everything he wants to do when he is feeling better! 
</p>

<p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;"><span class="s1">Although he will never be able to go back to work, he is so excited to be able to teach and pass on his skills to his grandkids, make improvements to the house, cook, and be a quality member of society, giving back anyway that he can. </span>
</p>

<p class="p1" style="line-height:normal;">We are so grateful for this opportunity of life. It truly is a gift worth more than we can ever express. The method used can be as effective as hormonal birth control when avoiding pregnancy and far more effective than IVF when trying to conceive in a situation of infertility (see images below). <br /><br /><strong>Long story</strong>: About two years ago, I discerned into a allied health professional education program at the Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction. I enrolled in the program in August of 2013 and began my educational journey in October of 2013. At the conclusion of this program (which consists of two on-site courses, two practica experiences, and a directly supervised visit) I have now become a FertilityCare Practitioner, enabling me to teach women (and couples) to use the Creighton Model System to track their fertility for the purpose of planning their families. <br /><br />The training for this program is academically rigorous and financially intense. It included two trips to Omaha, Nebraska (airfare and room/board) for me and a trip to New Jersey for my supervisor in addition to the costs of tuition and books/materials. <br /><br />Fundraising for this program has been a constant goal of mine and I'd like to now invite each of you to become a part of my growing support team. Through the generosity of the Diocese of Trenton, a portion of my costs have been covered, but there are still many other costs associated with this training. <br /><br />Any gift of any size will help us to finance this successfully. I encourage you to consider the number of walks/runs/marathons you support (for yourself or for others), how often you've given money to an organization leaving a grocery store, or how many (likely terrible) car washes you've endured to support an organization.
