I want to share with you today what Aboud and his family are enduring due to the destruction and dire circumstances surrounding them.

Since the war intensified, nothing has been the same for Aboud’s family. His father, once the provider, has been unable to work due to the chaos and injuries sustained during the conflict. Every day, they face harsh realities of shortages, illness, and fear. Aboud suffers from severe malnutrition, and the current conditions make it nearly impossible for him to receive the specialized care and nutrition he desperately needs to survive and grow.
How the donations will be used:
• Life-Saving Nutrition: Purchasing specialized formula and high-calorie food to treat Aboud’s malnutrition.
• Medical Care: Covering the costs of urgent pediatric check-ups and essential medicine.

Help Belal’s Family to Evacuate

<div>I will not capitulate to the musings of authoritarian sycophants. This country has made it abundantly clear that it is more willing to punish those who stand against oppression than the perpetrators of that oppression. I am just one of many black people who is being "punished" for not sugar coating the legacy of a Klansman. It is most likely time to seek better options for our safety and well being elsewhere. The funds gifted here would go towards moving/living expenses until we can get reestablished in a better place of residence.  I will not be silent in the face of white supremacy but I also know that my family's safety is paramount. I will never stop doing the work needed to combat these systems of oppression and making sure my loved ones are protected is part of that work. Hopefully we can find a community/ work environment that uplifts, protects and fights for marginalized peoples instead of paying them lip service by downplaying the severity of the rhetoric of people like CK as solely a "DIFFERENCE OF OPINION". I will not apologize for standing ten toes down and if given the opportunity again, I would make the same choice. As I type this we are one the 6th step of 7 for an authoritarian takeover and I will be complacent or idle on the sidelines of history. Help Us Grow the Juneteenth Family Festival into a Powerful Platform for Change in Our Community <br /><br />The second annual Juneteenth Family Festival is going to be an incredible day of celebration for our Black community in The Bronx and beyond — a day of appreciation and recognition of our proud heritage, our struggle, and the many gifts we give each other and the world. <br /><br /><br />Last year’s inaugural event was a major success, bringing together 7,000 members of the community for a moment of healing in the depths of one of the most difficult periods in our recent memory. We are dedicated to making this year’s event even more impactful.<br /><br /><br />We  need your help. To make this year’s event as successful as possible , and to establish the Juneteenth Family Festival as a dynamic platform for education, policy advocacy, health, economic opportunity and financial stability this year and in years to come, it will take participation from all of us.<br /><br /><br />Why This Matters: The Black community needs platforms of our own to ensure our messages are delivered on our terms to our local and national leaders, our community here in The Bronx and nationwide, and the world. People always ask how to be allies or ask why activists don't provide solutions. You can support the solutions that Black Opportunities is leading with.<br /><br /><br /><br />Who Are We?<br /><br /><br />In 2016, Brother and Sister duo Hawk and Chivona Newsome created Black Lives Matter Greater NY at their mother’s kitchen table. The goal was to bring a brand of activism that was strategic and abrasive while staying focused on meeting the community's needs. Since then, the group has led marches across the country. They stood on the frontlines of Charlottesville on that horrific day in 2017. The group launched a political arm called the Black Lives Caucus, the first group in NYC to endorse Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In addition, we formulated a successful campaign to get the officer that killed Eric Garner fired from the NYPD. There have been many proud moments but none other than the day we opened the Wildflower Charter School. <br /><br /><br />In the wake of George Floyd’s death, we realized that it was time to enter into the next phase of our mission. We need to empower our Black Communities. This is what Black Opportunities is about. We understand that if police brutality ends tomorrow that our people are still in serious trouble. We see that there is a void that needs to be filled. We seek to teach mindfulness, meditation, health, civics, politics, and economics. Another important element is that we will teach job skills and help community members get certifications to make them employable or entrepreneurs. We are fully aware of an often-ignored fact, which is that underemployment causes crime.<br /><br /><br />There is no national organization controlled by Black people that is focused on meeting the immediate needs of our community. We will empower our people in a way that goes way further than marching.<br /><br /><br />What Have We Done In Legislation?<br /><br /><br />No Chokehold Law<br />Termination of Qualified Immunity by City Council<br />Passed the Andrew Kearse Act in NYC<br />Independent Prosecutor for police misconduct<br /><br /><br />But that’s not all…<br /><br /><br />We fed 10,000 Bronxites during Covid Quarantine<br />Minnesota - We were asked by BLM Minnesota to handle their social media on the first day of protests after the murder of George Floyd. We then traveled there to support the movement.<br />Atlanta - Escorted Black voters to polling sites after a right wing extremist tried to intimidate them. Provided 500 families with Thanksgiving groceries<br />Houston - Provided rapid relief to Black communities after the deep freeze. Activities included giving food and necessity giveaways to over 2,000 families. Provided financial assistance to local activists.<br />Opened the Wildflower Charter School in the South Bronx<br /><br />When our people need us, we are there for them.

Juneteenth Family Festival -  Black Opportunities

My name is Oscar Vera, I’m an community organizer and activist. I started my activism in the summer of 2020 following the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor, and George Floyd. The sequence of tragic events inspired me to hit the streets to start protesting. I’ve organized and lead many demonstrations throughout New York City and also Washington DC with different organizations like warriors in the garden, strategies for black lives and many more. While organizing a series of protests, I was introduced to mutual aid work and fell in love with it. The work showed me that I can take my activism beyond the streets and into the communities that I’m fighting for. Since then, I’ve volunteer and spearheaded many food, coat and toy drives throughout the 5 boroughs. With your support I’ll be able to raise proper monetary donations to give back to our communities with consistent distributions throughout New York City.

Larry, known to the community as IAMQUEENS is a 22 year old Black Youth Civil Rights-Social Justice Activist who has aged out of the foster care system homeless with no resources and is currently living in a homeless shelter. Larry is seeking funds to secure a stable living environment as he continues to fight for the liberation of BIPOC Youth who have faced an intensified marginalization amidst a global pandemic, and global uprising. <br /><br />Larry, (IAMQUEENS)  has been <strong>fighting for our lives since a child. Larry has been living in a state of an emergency while making history in Southside Jamaica Queens &amp; has been putting the whole Queens on his back by himself, PERIOD</strong>! It’s <strong>time we fight for him</strong>! Larry has received citations, proclamations, and award plaques in Queens, New York. As a youth activist he has been making history while living in a runway homeless youth shelter for youth who are houseless and youth who are undocumented immigrants that have been living and coming out of Cages, Due to ICE. He began protesting at the age of 8 years old, after Sean Bell who was murdered by the New York Police Department in Larry's hometown and was shot 50 times. Sean Bell's story made Larry want to take a stand for holding police accountable.  <br /><br />Being activated at such a young age, Larry did not choose to become an activist. If anything ACTIVISM Chose Larry, and he became activated at such a very young age. Larry then went on to spearhead his activism based on survival by advocating for marginalized communities across NYC, on an expansive level. However, Larry has faced multitudes of systemic blockades in his fight for survival that have barred him from accessing and obtaining a stable physical, and mental environment for himself as he continued to fight against the same systematic structures that have oppressed BIPOC communities across our city. <br /><br />At the age of 2, Larry entered the system of Child Services and has survived being processed through 23 foster homes including group homes, children centers, and covenant houses. In October of 2020, Larry approached the age of 21, the age foster youth in New York City is forced out of the foster care system. Larry, who believed he would be leaving the system with a robust system of resources and support from the ACS (Administration for Children’s Services), was faced with brutal realization.<br /><br />Larry was given no more than a “your leaving”, and a Metrocard allowing a single round trip through the transit system during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Larry Was Homeless For 7 Months. Sleeping in parks, trains, busses, Larry even helped his friend who was homeless named Timothy Thomas! Larry and Timothy were homeless together. Unfortunately there are No other resources, guidance or support existed for him or Timothy! <br /><br />Larry has attempted to secure the tools needed for his survival, and from August/ September of 2020 until November 2020, he was able to secure a job placement as a Community Constituent Liaison for State Senator James Sanders Jr. In Southside Jamaica Queens, However his employer has denied Larry numerous pay cycles resulting in the lack of financial stability and eventually left Larry with no option but to no longer continue his employment. He was only granted two pay cycles of pay, despite him working for nearly 4 months. Senator James Sanders Owes Larry at-least 5 weeks of wages + more, and his office refuses to even give an apology to Larry.  Larry then started to stand up for himself and organized a rally and because of the rally then Larry got paid and announced this to the public. It’s been a whole month since we decided to officially bring down the gates. Since then we’ve taken all necessary steps to get some of the government assistance made available to small businesses; from eagerly applying for loans and relentlessly submitting applications for grants- we’ve realized we are not the only ones and of course we shouldn't feel entitled, reason why we just kept going with optimism and a heart filled with gratitude, anxiously awaiting a response. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard back but luckily, Next Stop Vegan is resilient. We don’t want to give up, so we are ready to roll up our gate. Taking all the necessary precautions, we are re-opening next Saturday (May 2nd). We love what we do and miss you all dearly. We also want to fight for our business. Not to mention, May is a celebratory month for us. May 4th marks the 2nd anniversary of our lease signing to our first establishment, and May 11th marks one year since we opened to the public for take out and limited dine-in. With that said, we will celebrate through social distancing of course!!! We would love the opportunity to keep our doors open with your help through this GoFundMe account.
