My name is Ellen Flores. I am a flight attendant based in New York City, and I’m raising funds for my dear friend Aboud Saleh, a 7-month-old baby born amidst the devastation of war in Gaza. I want to share with you today what Aboud and his family are enduring due to the destruction and dire circumstances surrounding them.
“I write to you from the heart of a city in ruins, where every corner tells a story of loss — homes, dreams, even the laughter of children. Yet, despite everything, we keep moving because we know there are hearts far away still beating for us. In Gaza, every day teaches us how to live with half a home, half a meal, and half a life. But we cling to what remains — a mother’s voice, a father’s embrace, and the hope for a better tomorrow.”
Since the war intensified, nothing has been the same for Aboud’s family. His father, once the provider, has been unable to work due to the chaos and injuries sustained during the conflict. Every day, they face harsh realities of shortages, illness, and fear. Aboud suffers from severe malnutrition, and the current conditions make it nearly impossible for him to receive the specialized care and nutrition he desperately needs to survive and grow.
How the donations will be used:
• Life-Saving Nutrition: Purchasing specialized formula and high-calorie food to treat Aboud’s malnutrition.
• Medical Care: Covering the costs of urgent pediatric check-ups and essential medicine.
• Emergency Essentials: Providing the family with clean water, hygiene kits, and basic survival needs.
Transparency and Delivery:
I am committed to ensuring that 100% of these funds reach Aboud’s family to cover the urgent needs listed above. I will be managing the transfer of funds securely to ensure they have immediate access to these life-saving resources. Your generosity is their lifeline.
The war has taken their home and their safety, but it cannot take our collective compassion. Please join me in giving Aboud a chance at a healthy life. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a profound difference.

Hello,

My name is Belal. I am a Palestinian currently living in Gaza City. Long story short: my city was destroyed, my house was destroyed, my people were gone. It's been more than 300 days of war now... everything is gone. You can see that I documented these atrocities on my Instagram account.

We all feel helpless and powerless as we watch the tragic events taking place in our city.

I am reaching out to raise money so I urgently need your support to help raise money for humanitarian aid such as food, water, medical aid and shelter tents, and ultimately to evacuate my family when the Rafah Crossing reopens.

Your support means more than just financial aid, it is a gesture of solidarity and compassion in the face of humanity. Our hearts bleed for our nation and the least we can do is pray, pray and donate.

Hi there!

My name is Tori, and I created this fundraiser on behalf of Belal and his family who were recently displaced for the 10th time and is hoping to provide humanitarian aid to those in the area such as food, clean water, medicine, and tents for shelter, as well as supporting their own basic needs. As things have intensified, Belal now wishes to evacuate his family, consisting of 7 adults and 4 beautiful children.

Belal is an exceptional person, a loving uncle, and loyal friend and I feel honored to know him and to have the privilege of handling this account on his behalf.

Belal has a degree in Economics and Management Sciences, but since the onset of the war his focus has been in helping those around him, and surviving. My hope for him is to see Belal and his family through to safety, and to a life he can live to its fullest.

All donations are transferred to Belal as I receive them, and we have been successfully transferring money to support this family.

Please consider sharing, Thank you ❤️

Help Belal’s Family to Evacuate

I will not capitulate to the musings of authoritarian sycophants. This country has made it abundantly clear that it is more willing to punish those who stand against oppression than the perpetrators of that oppression. I am just one of many black people who is being "punished" for not sugar coating the legacy of a Klansman. It is most likely time to seek better options for our safety and well being elsewhere. The funds gifted here would go towards moving/living expenses until we can get reestablished in a better place of residence. I will not be silent in the face of white supremacy but I also know that my family's safety is paramount. I will never stop doing the work needed to combat these systems of oppression and making sure my loved ones are protected is part of that work. Hopefully we can find a community/ work environment that uplifts, protects and fights for marginalized peoples instead of paying them lip service by downplaying the severity of the rhetoric of people like CK as solely a "DIFFERENCE OF OPINION". I will not apologize for standing ten toes down and if given the opportunity again, I would make the same choice. As I type this we are one the 6th step of 7 for an authoritarian takeover and I will be complacent or idle on the sidelines of history. If you don't want to donate here, you can purchase merch on my website. All proceeds from those sales are donated to MMIW. If you don't have the means to give, your voice is still vitally important. Please get in contact with your local direct action organizations, promote/share the content and voices of marginalized creators and (for my mayo comrades) continue unpacking your complicity in these systems of white supremacy. We are standing on the edge of a knife and at this point it's not about "if it will happen"; it's all about "when it will happen". Stay woke. You are loved, appreciated and worth fighting for. NEVER let anyone, including yourself, forget that.

In 1994 my pops, who you may know as Mr Wong, opened Vegetarian’s Paradise 2 and VP2GO. In 2002, we converted our little juice bar and vegan dim sum spot to Red Bamboo. For over thirty years our family has been serving vegan food in Greenwich Village and we are reaching out to our community in the hopes that you can help us to keep our small business alive.

Since the pandemic, we've been struggling to get back on our feet. We haven't been able to make up our losses from having to close indoor dining for over a year. Our rent continues to increase while foot traffic has slowed down tremendously. After an issue with the gas pipe in our building that the landlord chose not to fix, we were forced to overhaul our entire kitchen for more than $40,000. Your generous donations would help in paying the rent that we owe, past due ConEdison bills, commercial liability insurance, payroll taxes, and escalating food costs.

We've watched many great friends and colleagues in our neighborhood fall to the pressure of rising rents, residual Covid stress, and big corporations popping up to oversaturate the market. It is very tough right now for small businesses, especially those that are minority owned, women owned, and queer owned like ourselves. We would benefit greatly from any help that you can provide so that we do not become one of the fallen small businesses.

With your help, we hope we can continue to serve the vegan community.

Please Help Sandra Villa and Her Daughters Rebuild After Devastating Fire

Sandra Villa is a remarkable single mother of three young girls and a breast cancer survivor. She has faced life’s challenges with courage and resilience, but today her family needs your help.

Early this morning, Sandra’s home was tragically destroyed in a fire. Everything they owned—memories, essentials, and belongings—was lost in moments. Sandra and her daughters escaped with only the pajamas they were wearing. While they are grateful to be safe, they are now left with nothing and must start from scratch. There is no insurance.

Sandra has always been a fighter, from her battle with cancer to raising her girls on her own. Now, she is faced with the unimaginable task of rebuilding her life. She has no local family.

This fundraiser is to help her family secure housing, clothing, food, and basic necessities as they navigate this heartbreaking chapter.

No contribution is too small, and every dollar will help Sandra and her girls rebuild their lives. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing their story to spread the word. Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.

More details for specific donations will be requested once we get her family settled in temporary housing.

Help Sandra and Daughters Rebuild After a Devastating Fire

‏Hello, my name is Britni I’m from Michigan in the United States. I have known Abood since late 2023, we have been in constant contact as him and his family navigate the most difficult and cruel circumstances. It has been an honor to know him, he is truly the kindest soul. Him and his family just simply want to survive. Here is a small summary of their story. Thank you in advance for any form of support you’re able to give.

My name is Abdul Rahman (abood). I am trying to collect donations to alleviate the suffering that my family and I are experiencing. We lost everything our home, our education, and our health has deteriorated.

.

With basic necessities becoming increasingly unaffordable, Abood and his family are experiencing this harsh reality firsthand. They have lost everything, and it is very difficult to find food, but when we do- the price of food has increased significantly.

This GoFundMe campaign is a direct lifeline for Abood and his family. Your contribution, no matter the size, will directly provide them with the essential resources they desperately need, such as food, medicine and bare necessities to navigate this crisis. Every donation offers a beacon of hope and a tangible means for them to have access to food and water when it is found.

Please consider donating to help Abood and his family survive. Your compassion can make an immediate and profound positive difference to alleviate their struggle.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

-Abood.

Escape From War Nightmare: Support Gazan Family

You may know Jessica Cruz as the face of Vegan Street Fair and Vegan Exchange. Maybe you know her as a fierce momma of two. Or perhaps you recognize her from her stint on American Gladiators. Whichever way, you know the warm-hearted powerhouse that she is. Never one to show her cracks, now that Jessica has recently started her fight against breast cancer, we, her closest friends, have taken it upon ourselves to start up this campaign, because we know she won’t. She has done and continues to do so much for our community, we want to make sure that each of you has the opportunity to return the favor by showing her the support she needs but is reluctant to ask for.

This 6+ month journey is only now beginning and we want to ensure she can truly focus on her recovery while maintaining her relationship with her kids and her businesses.

Jessica has spent the last 8+ years building up amazing, diverse, inclusive, and welcoming events across the country. Now it’s our turn to come together and show her what community is all about.

As a small business owner and fiercly dedicated mother of two, Jessica does not have a corporate job that comes with benefits when sick. With this fight will come some substantial and difficult losses in income due to her not being able to run the events herself. We are looking to you, her community, to help support Jessica as she has done for so many of us.

If you are able to contribute financial support, she is truly grateful. If not, please share the fundraiser, send positive vibes, and continue to support all of her events including Vegan Exchange, which happens every Sunday, and Vegan Street Fair, happening across the country.

PLEASE NOTE: ***She does not need dietary or lifestyle advice at this time.*** She has already asked several people who have previously gone through this for their expertise andshe thanks you for your kind thoughts to help her heal.

We will continue to update this campaign and share other ways to support Jessica throughout this journey. We truly appreciate each of you taking the time to help in whatever way you can. Every effort truly makes a difference and means the world to Jessica. This Gladiator ain’t going down anytime soon!

United4Jess: A Journey of Breast Cancer Support

Help Us Grow the Juneteenth Family Festival into a Powerful Platform for Change in Our Community

The second annual Juneteenth Family Festival is going to be an incredible day of celebration for our Black community in The Bronx and beyond — a day of appreciation and recognition of our proud heritage, our struggle, and the many gifts we give each other and the world.

Last year’s inaugural event was a major success, bringing together 7,000 members of the community for a moment of healing in the depths of one of the most difficult periods in our recent memory. We are dedicated to making this year’s event even more impactful.

We need your help. To make this year’s event as successful as possible , and to establish the Juneteenth Family Festival as a dynamic platform for education, policy advocacy, health, economic opportunity and financial stability this year and in years to come, it will take participation from all of us.

Why This Matters: The Black community needs platforms of our own to ensure our messages are delivered on our terms to our local and national leaders, our community here in The Bronx and nationwide, and the world. And that is precisely what we are going to deliver and build. How will we get there? By working together.

The bigger the platform, the bigger the impact… And you have the opportunity to play a direct role in helping us create that.

What are some ways you can get involved?

Join us at the 2021 Juneteenth Family Festival in the Bronx. This year’s event will feature

Free food
Giveaways of bicycles, computers, and cash
Music by DJ Kay Slay, Cakes Da Killa, Descendent, and more to be announced
Speeches from local activists and leaders
Discussions on financial literacy and crypto currency with Hill Harper

Donate

We are asking for donations from anyone who can and is willing. These donations will support the 2021 Juneteenth Family Festival and any additional donations will be used to support the growth of our community platform.

Spread the word!

If you’re unable to donate or attend this year’s event, that is okay. You can help us by sharing this GoFundMe and our message with your community, your audience, or your family. The more people hear our message the bigger our platform becomes and we are grateful for everyone who is willing to spread the word.

What Happens to donations if We Exceed Our Goal?

This event delivers even more benefit to the community and gives us the ability to create systems that allow for growth of the Juneteenth Family Festival.

Black Opportunities gets a big boost and we can start to implement our strategies for impact in key cities.

Here’s what we can promise to you if we exceed our immediate goals.

$50k, we can hold a successful Juneteenth event and signup Bronxites for our programs
$100k, we can feed people once a week and conduct classes for six months
$150k, we can conduct classes and feed people in Houston for six months.

Our vision is great, but it is also realistic. If we are wildly successful, you can expect to see the groundwork established for a nationwide strategy for the changes that we need — in politics, in society, in our economy, and directly in our community by feeding and teaching people how to organize.

America benefits from our vision for impact. We will reduce the number of sick people, the number of impoverished people, all while combating systemic racism through community empowerment. People always ask how to be allies or ask why activists don't provide solutions. You can support the solutions that Black Opportunities is leading with.

Who Are We?

In 2016, Brother and Sister duo Hawk and Chivona Newsome created Black Lives Matter Greater NY at their mother’s kitchen table. The goal was to bring a brand of activism that was strategic and abrasive while staying focused on meeting the community's needs. Since then, the group has led marches across the country. They stood on the frontlines of Charlottesville on that horrific day in 2017. The group launched a political arm called the Black Lives Caucus, the first group in NYC to endorse Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In addition, we formulated a successful campaign to get the officer that killed Eric Garner fired from the NYPD. There have been many proud moments but none other than the day we opened the Wildflower Charter School.

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, we realized that it was time to enter into the next phase of our mission. We need to empower our Black Communities. This is what Black Opportunities is about. We understand that if police brutality ends tomorrow that our people are still in serious trouble. We see that there is a void that needs to be filled. We seek to teach mindfulness, meditation, health, civics, politics, and economics. Another important element is that we will teach job skills and help community members get certifications to make them employable or entrepreneurs. We are fully aware of an often-ignored fact, which is that underemployment causes crime.

There is no national organization controlled by Black people that is focused on meeting the immediate needs of our community. We will empower our people in a way that goes way further than marching.

What Have We Done In Legislation?

No Chokehold Law
Termination of Qualified Immunity by City Council
Passed the Andrew Kearse Act in NYC
Independent Prosecutor for police misconduct

But that’s not all…

We fed 10,000 Bronxites during Covid Quarantine
Minnesota - We were asked by BLM Minnesota to handle their social media on the first day of protests after the murder of George Floyd. We then traveled there to support the movement.
Atlanta - Escorted Black voters to polling sites after a right wing extremist tried to intimidate them. Provided 500 families with Thanksgiving groceries
Houston - Provided rapid relief to Black communities after the deep freeze. Activities included giving food and necessity giveaways to over 2,000 families. Provided financial assistance to local activists.
Opened the Wildflower Charter School in the South Bronx

When our people need us, we are there for them.

Juneteenth Family Festival - Black Opportunities

My name is Oscar Vera, I’m an community organizer and activist. I started my activism in the summer of 2020 following the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor, and George Floyd. The sequence of tragic events inspired me to hit the streets to start protesting. I’ve organized and lead many demonstrations throughout New York City and also Washington DC with different organizations like warriors in the garden, strategies for black lives and many more. While organizing a series of protests, I was introduced to mutual aid work and fell in love with it. The work showed me that I can take my activism beyond the streets and into the communities that I’m fighting for. Since then, I’ve volunteer and spearheaded many food, coat and toy drives throughout the 5 boroughs. With your support I’ll be able to raise proper monetary donations to give back to our communities with consistent distributions throughout New York City.

Feed the streets!!!

Larry, known to the community as IAMQUEENS is a 22 year old Black Youth Civil Rights-Social Justice Activist who has aged out of the foster care system homeless with no resources and is currently living in a homeless shelter. Larry is seeking funds to secure a stable living environment as he continues to fight for the liberation of BIPOC Youth who have faced an intensified marginalization amidst a global pandemic, and global uprising.

Larry, (IAMQUEENS) has been fighting for our lives since a child. Larry has been living in a state of an emergency while making history in Southside Jamaica Queens & has been putting the whole Queens on his back by himself, PERIOD! It’s time we fight for him! Larry has received citations, proclamations, and award plaques in Queens, New York. As a youth activist he has been making history while living in a runway homeless youth shelter for youth who are houseless and youth who are undocumented immigrants that have been living and coming out of Cages, Due to ICE. Larry's shelter is in Manhattan New York City!

The GoFundMe goal is currently set at $51,000; Here is the breakdown of expenses Larry needs for his survival:

Background Information:

Larry Malcom Smith Jr., known as IAMQUEENS is a Black Youth Activist with roots embedded in civil rights, social justice activism within the community of Southside Jamaica, Queens. He began protesting at the age of 8 years old, after Sean Bell who was murdered by the New York Police Department in Larry's hometown and was shot 50 times. Sean Bell's story made Larry want to take a stand for holding police accountable.

Being activated at such a young age, Larry did not choose to become an activist. If anything ACTIVISM Chose Larry, and he became activated at such a very young age. Larry then went on to spearhead his activism based on survival by advocating for marginalized communities across NYC, on an expansive level. However, Larry has faced multitudes of systemic blockades in his fight for survival that have barred him from accessing and obtaining a stable physical, and mental environment for himself as he continued to fight against the same systematic structures that have oppressed BIPOC communities across our city.

At the age of 2, Larry entered the system of Child Services and has survived being processed through 23 foster homes including group homes, children centers, and covenant houses. In October of 2020, Larry approached the age of 21, the age foster youth in New York City is forced out of the foster care system. Larry, who believed he would be leaving the system with a robust system of resources and support from the ACS (Administration for Children’s Services), was faced with brutal realization.

Larry was given no more than a “your leaving”, and a Metrocard allowing a single round trip through the transit system during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Larry Was Homeless For 7 Months. Sleeping in parks, trains, busses, Larry even helped his friend who was homeless named Timothy Thomas! Larry and Timothy were homeless together. Unfortunately there are No other resources, guidance or support existed for him or Timothy!

Larry has attempted to secure the tools needed for his survival, and from August/ September of 2020 until November 2020, he was able to secure a job placement as a Community Constituent Liaison for State Senator James Sanders Jr. In Southside Jamaica Queens, However his employer has denied Larry numerous pay cycles resulting in the lack of financial stability and eventually left Larry with no option but to no longer continue his employment. He was only granted two pay cycles of pay, despite him working for nearly 4 months. Senator James Sanders Owes Larry at-least 5 weeks of wages + more, and his office refuses to even give an apology to Larry. Larry then started to stand up for himself and organized a rally and because of the rally then Larry got paid and announced this to the public. Larry then was paid but he had to expose senator james sanders to hold him accountable for not giving him his check on time, to be compensated.

Did You Know ?

In a national study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania on the effect of COVID-19 on Foster Youth, the study found 55% of foster youth reported that they were food insecure, 72% reported an unstable financial situation that would not be stable for more than a month, 48% reported a negative impact on their employment obtainment, and 56% reported having significant levels of depression and anxiety.

These reflected difficulties are just a few of the overwhelming experiences that Larry has continued to endure during these difficult times. However, Larry has enabled his voice, platform, and experiences to advocate for radicalized change within the Foster Care system for youth.

Please Protect Black Children + Black Foster Youth !!!

The Bronx is the global epicenter for COVID-19. Inaction from the government is leaving our most vulnerable left to fend for themselves. Not on our watch! This past month we’ve been doing wellness checks and grocery/medication deliveries to elders who can’t come outside. Since we’ve been doing daily deliveries, our phones are ringing off the hook with people who need food. We Take Care of Our People. Please support our campaign to get the people what they need.

ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE

If you know anyone in the Bronx that could use a bag of groceries call [phone redacted]

PEOPLES FOOD PROGRAM

Forget-Me-Not Animal Sanctuary, a place for all types of animals in need of a home and some love. Started out in a suburban backyard, we have grown quickly and have saved many animals from neglect, slaughter and abuse.
I believe Forget-Me-Not Animal Sanctuary has the potential to become a chance for animals to recover from the conditions they are generally found in and to be adopted out to loving homes, or to live out their lives here in peace, surrounded by love and compassion.
It is our mission to boycott animal exploitation by creating a loving environment for the animals and to give people the opportunity to bond with the animals and discover their incredible personalities. If you donate money you'll be donating to help us create a better future for many animals that certainly deserve a second chance.

As you can imagine, this is incredibly difficult on the family. Stewart Mitchell has always been there for the animal rights community. Now it’s time for us to be there for him.

It’s been a whole month since we decided to officially bring down the gates. Since then we’ve taken all necessary steps to get some of the government assistance made available to small businesses; from eagerly applying for loans and relentlessly submitting applications for grants- we’ve realized we are not the only ones and of course we shouldn't feel entitled, reason why we just kept going with optimism and a heart filled with gratitude, anxiously awaiting a response. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard back but luckily, Next Stop Vegan is resilient. We don’t want to give up, so we are ready to roll up our gate. Taking all the necessary precautions, we are re-opening next Saturday (May 2nd). We love what we do and miss you all dearly. We also want to fight for our business. Not to mention, May is a celebratory month for us. May 4th marks the 2nd anniversary of our lease signing to our first establishment, and May 11th marks one year since we opened to the public for take out and limited dine-in. With that said, we will celebrate through social distancing of course!!! We would love the opportunity to keep our doors open with your help through this GoFundMe account. If you find it in your heart and pockets to continue to support us, any contributions to a successful reopening after being shut down for a whole month will be immensely appreciated. We will be back only on Saturdays for now until further notice. And because we love a good opportunity to celebrate, Saturday May 2nd we are celebrating a pre-Cinco de Mayo by adding our special soft tacos, which you guys made a hot item!! If you would love to support us, feel free to donate here :)

We look forward to serving you again!
We value, appreciate and love you all ♥️

P.S. who else is craving that chimi? ;-)
