 The wonderful Chris Dinnis has organised a special afternoon event on Sunday 20th September between 2pm and 7pm at Bomba, The Quay, Exeter EX2 4AP.  The best of the west DJs will be spinning some soul, jazz funk and rare grooves, led by Chris Dinnis, with Craig “Fish” Fisher, Dave Elmer, Mark Richards. Our very own Statler and Waldorf (Andy and Rusty) will be there for their second only performance, playing some of Phil’s favourite tunes. We so hope you can join us! Tickets are £10 on the door. We have some amazing draw prizes, including a Land Rover experience, an Axminster rug, event tickets and some original artwork.

A very special afternoon of soul, jazz funk and rare groove

<div>Hi Everyone, We lost our beautiful friend Carol to cancer in March. She touched so many hearts and everyone she met loved her. Vibrant, with a heart of gold, the life and soul of everywhere she went and gone far too soon.
</div>
<div>One of her favourite hobbies was to walk along Tooting Common and take pictures of beautiful ducks. We would love to raise money for a bench overlooking the Common, so her dear family and friends can sit and watch what she loved through their eyes. The target amount would be brilliant and every little helps. Please forward on to anyone who knew Carol and would like to donate. It would be so nice to sit on “Carol’s bench” and do what she loved doing.

<div>Johnny and I received life-changing news: we were expecting our first child. A moment that would surely change our lives forever.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately our story doesn’t have a happy ending.
</div>
<div>At 19 weeks our joy turned to heartbreak as I became incredibly sick. On Friday, September 13th, we received the devastating words no parent-to-be ever wants to hear: “I’m so sorry, your baby has no heartbeat.”
</div>

<div>In those heartbreaking moments, the compassionate staff at Royal Devon and Exeter’s Labour and Delivery Ward provided us with the support we needed.
</div>
<div>Early on September 14th, our beautiful little boy was born into the world, already a sleeping angel. The pain was unimaginable, but the care we received from the Heartsease room —a specialist bereavement suite for families enduring pregnancy loss—gave us the space and support we needed to say goodbye to our baby.
</div>

</div>
<div>The Heartsease Room, funded by the RD&amp;E Bereavement Charity, offered us privacy and the comfort of time with our son. This safe, gentle space was our sanctuary as we began to process our grief. In those dark hours, this ward and the incredible team behind it gave us a bit of peace when we needed it most.
</div>

<div>Now, in memory of our son and to help other families facing such loss, Johnny, our family, friends and I will be running the Riverside 5-Mile on the 9th February 2025 to raise funds for the RD&amp;E Bereavement Charity. By donating to this fundraiser, you’re supporting the vital work of the Heartsease Ward, which offers comfort, care, and dignity to grieving families who need it most.

<div>a significant amount of work for an unknown period of time.

<div>Bob’s particular type of cancer means he also has to undergo

<div>given the specialism involved. This means Bob &amp; his lovely Partner

<div>Debs will also be having to fund travel, hotels, plus convalesce time.

<div>I am Mary, a Social Work Team Manager from South Devon. I am raising money to travel from my home in Newton Abbot to Da Nang in Vietnam on 1st April 2024 so that I can volunteer for a month with a project that supports children with disabilities - there is an orphanage, a school and a residential home. I will be helping to care for the children across the three settings and contributing to the projects training and development programme by sharing some of my skills and experience.

<div>This is completely out of my comfort zone, I am a home bird and have only been on a plane twice in my life and one of those trips was to Scotland! It will take me two full days to travel each way and lots of courage to be able to navigate big and busy airports.

<div>The project is charging £1400 to cover my board and lodgings and then I need to pay for flights and travel insurance on top. 
</div>

</div>
<div>So….my amazing friends, family and colleagues, I am seeking your emotional, practical and financial support to make this trip a reality. Once I am over in Vietnam I will take lots of photos and videos of what I get up to so that you can see my adventures!!

The brutal, all-consuming, life-destroying nature of conflict. After almost 2 years of work on this project we'd love to tell this unbelievable tale.
