On my 20th birthday in November 2021, I took my beloved Cocoa to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Clearwater, FL because she wasn’t eating and had lost weight. After some initial improvement, a tragic mistake changed everything: the hospital staff left her tank open, and Cocoa escaped. She wandered the hallways for 45 minutes before another pet parent found her and brought her to the front desk. Despite being returned to an incubator, all her progress was lost, and she declined rapidly. Cocoa passed away, and heartbreakingly, I learned this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened at this hospital and others like it.
This experience inspired me to write Cocoa’s Law of Love—a call to ensure animals have proper rights regarding their welfare and individuality, and to hold those who neglect or harm animals truly accountable. Current laws don’t do enough, and that needs to change. Animals’ lives depend on it.
With your help, I want to create t-shirts, bracelets, and flyers to spread the word about Cocoa’s Law of Love, and use USPS mail to reach people in the area where this happened. I also hope to start a non-profit in Cocoa’s honor, but I need support to get started. Cocoa was a hero—selfless and loving—and I want to carry that spirit forward. Every donation, share, or signature is a way to use your voice for those who don’t have one. Together, we can make a difference for animals everywhere.
