This is the chance of a lifetime, to do what one peer reviewer described as “foundational” work, and another, “critical”. Your help so far has resulted in the first seven seasons of field work, completed the initial study, confirmed the hypothesis, write and present the first paper for publication, start building a moose facial recognition app so we can expand the study and begin an addendum. <div>The park is a giant laboratory, the last most intact temperate ecosystem in the lower 48. To a scientist this is what the park is all about. To me it’s a dream come true. I can’t believe I discovered this, and I can’t believe I might lose it because I don't have the funding. A chance to do real science and make meaningful discoveries. How many people can say they had that chance and how can I just let it go without exhausting all possibilities.

<div>The moose in our study area get a form of papilloma virus and develop fist sized tumors, they then shed the tumors with no scarring and no adverse effects on their reproductive capabilities. We want to know how they do that and if it can be applied to human physiology.

<div>We’re turning the puppy bus repair situation into a 50/50 fundraiser for Mo Mountain Mutts and Paws &amp; Claws Animal Shelter.

<div>Our recent bus repairs, including the tires, came to about $2,800 total. Since every dollar raised is being split 50/50, we’ve set the fundraiser goal at $5,600 — $2,800 to cover the bus and $2,800 for Paws &amp; Claws.

<div>And if we happen to exceed that goal, 100% of anything raised beyond $5,600 will go to Paws &amp; Claws.

<div>We’ve shared a little bit about our bus troubles recently, and quite a few of you offered to help. We initially held off because we don’t really like asking for help unless we need it.

<div>Hi Best Running Friends! I'm Jackie (aka Cousin Jackie), and I have the privilege of calling Alison Feller (aka Ali on the Run) my family and my friend.

<div>For those of you following her story over the past few years, you know that she has tackled multiple breast cancer diagnoses, surgeries, and chemotherapy with strength and "delusional optimism." And despite her recent Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer diagnosis, Ali continues to find ways to show up for her family, friends, and this community.

<div>So many people have reached out asking how they can best support Ali and Annie (and Ellie!) through all of this. Alison is getting better, but is still not great at asking for help... But in a moment of weakness, I finally convinced her to let people help! So here we go!!!

<div>For those of you just meeting Alison through this page, Ali Feller (@aliontherun1) is the host of the popular Ali on the Run Show podcast, and mom to the sweetest, cutest Annie. :) She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, underwent a double mastectomy, completed chemotherapy, finished a year of immunotherapy, rang the bell, and was declared cancer-free. In 2025, after experiencing chest pain, Ali was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her bones. She is currently undergoing a chemotherapy regimen intended to last years. She will also require additional surgery to reduce her risk of ovarian cancer associated with the BRCA2 gene.

<div>Alison has shown tremendous bravery sharing her story to help others either going through cancer or supporting those going through cancer. She continues to be "delusionally optimistic" and a light in this world to so many.

Ali on the Run vs. Breast Cancer 2.0

<div>I’m raising funds to help cover medical expenses and travel from Skagway to Juneau for important cancer prevention treatment. Recently, I learned I have abnormal cells in my breast that need to be closely monitored and possibly removed. The process requires me to travel out of Skagway, which can take several days each trip and means missing work as a self-employed dog walker. Without sick leave, every day away is a significant loss of income, making it difficult to keep up with everyday bills and responsibilities.
</div>

<div>In addition to medical costs, I need help with travel expenses, lodging, and meals while I’m in Juneau for appointments. These trips are essential for my health, but the uncertainty around how often I’ll need to go adds to the challenge. I’ve been caring for dogs in Skagway year-round for nine years, providing one of the few local services not solely tied to tourism. My work is a big part of the community, and I share my experiences online with a supportive group of followers who appreciate the positivity I bring to my job.
</div>

<div>Any support will help me focus on my health, continue serving the dogs and families who rely on me, and keep sharing my work with my awesome follower base. Support Morgan’s Cancer Prevention Journey

<div>So long story short, I am heading for a kidney transplant. Yep….4 years after my heart transplant. I have my kidney transplant evaluation in June. The heart transplant drugs have basically damaged my kidneys to the point where I have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) level 4 (5 is complete failure of the kidneys). It boggles my mind, that doctors continually prescribe medications that damage your body.
</div>

<div>My docs and I decided that a kidney transplant would be the best route because I am otherwise healthy and I don't want to have to go on dialysis - which breaks down the body. I hope I don't have to!

</div>

<div>That being said, one of the downsides of having CKD is anemia.

</div>

</div>

<div>The hormone primarily produced by the kidneys that stimulates red blood cell production is erythropoietin (EPO). EPO acts on bone marrow stem cells, telling them to produce more red blood cells. The kidneys release more EPO when they detect low oxygen levels in the blood. When one has CKD, this basically stops altogether and/or slows considerably. Many with CKD have chronically low hemoglobin and red blood cells.
</div>

<div>The symptoms of anemia are serious fatigue, like can't get out of bed fatigue, can't think clearly fatigue. I have been there all too often as my CKD has gotten worse and worse from the heart transplant drugs - they are toxic.

</div>

<div>Many people with Chronic Kidney Disease need EPO shots (I do too). These are shots that mimic the synthetic hormone (EPO) that the kidneys are supposed to produce for red blood cell production. Unfortunately, they are very expensive 1200-2000$ per 4 shots (2 shots per month and every month)! I need them regularly and my insurance won't cover them. I have had to to pay out of pocket for these for year and now I need your help.

<div>EPO shots are too much money but a necessity for me to continue to have energy, and live a relatively normal active life until my transplant, whenever that may be - it could be years. I am embarassed in asking for help, but I do need it. I don't know anyone who could continue to pay $1200-2000 every few months for medication. Moral of the story Insurance SUCKS!

Kidney Transplant Hope: Aid for Medication

<div>As some of you may know, Colby's best friend needs a Total Hip Replacement and this is no cheap thing. We learned that Maverick had osteoarthritis in one hip almost two years ago now and the vet told Colby he probably shouldn't hike anymore, which was devestating to hear. Everybody knows that hiking is their thing!! Since then, Colby has been paying for monthly injections and daily medication to try to help Mav, but none of it has been working very well. This winter, Maverick will be going to Angell Surgical Center in Boston for a Total Hip Replacement. As you can imagine, this is a very expensive surgery, but Colby will do anything to give Mav the best life he can have. She's been brainstorming ways to fundraise - making calendars, having a bake sale, etc. - and I just figured, it can't hurt to put this out there for her. She has full intention to pay for this surgery all on her own (she's stubborn like that). But I also know that her story with Maverick and the adventures they have had together have touched so many lives and some of you may want to pitch in to help him on his road back to hiking with her again.

I am just looking for some help to pay bills while I look for another job. I have two kids with autism and another BPD. Thank you for helping.  We have found an attorney and need help with the fee. That’s why we made changes to this campaign.  We are overwhelmed by the support. We set the original goal thinking only family and friends would be helping. Beth Hudson was recently in a head-on motorcycle accident that has her in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital where she requires 24/7 care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She is currently undergoing multiple procedures and surgeries daily. Beth will be in the hospital for an unknown period of time, likely putting her teaching career at Pinkerton Academy on hold. She has been a teacher at Pinkerton Academy for 30+ years where she often does community service. She also volunteers at local organizations and interprets for the hearing impaired.<br /><br />Beth is a loving and enthusiastic wife, mother, daughter and friend. She has always been active in her community. Beth loved riding her motorcycle, camping, fishing and volunteering. <br /><br />With unexpected expenses and inability to work for the foreseeable future due to the accident, keeping up with the costs of the things she loves will be a hardship. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/dnbrdn1" target="_blank"><strong>Dana Breeden</strong></a> worked at the FIRST event produced by <a href="http://www.millenniumrunning.com/about" target="_blank">Millennium Running</a> in 2011 and has been there every step of the way since!  If you are one of the 75,000+ people to ran or walked in a Millennium Running event in the past 5 years, then you have run by mile markers, cones, clocks, barricades, and start or finish lines that have been set up by Dana.    <br /><br />Unfortunately, Dana's apartment in Manchester, NH burned down today (Aug. 2nd) [<a href="http://www.wmur.com/news/crews-battling-multialarm-fire-in-manchester/34494664" target="_blank">news coverage</a>].   Of course, Dana was out at an event so he was not injured; <strong>unfortunately, he lost all of his belongings.  </strong><br /><br />Please rally and support a very special person who has made ten's of thousands of runners happy by his hard work!
