 It is with a heavy heart that I’m sharing this on behalf of my sister, Shelby, my brother-in-law, Kelly, and my sweet one-year-old nephew, Foxx.

 On Saturday, Shelby, Kelly &amp; their five boys came home early from a camping trip after Foxx had developed a fever and began vomiting. At first, they thought it was just a bug, but when none of their four other boys became sick, they knew something wasn’t right.

 On Sunday morning, they brought Foxx to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 After a difficult IV insertion, an attentive nurse noticed that Foxx’s belly was swollen and that there was a concerning bump on his right abdomen. His bloodwork showed he was severely anemic, and he was immediately started on IV fluids. More bloodwork and an X-ray raised even more concerns, leading doctors to rush him for a CT scan.

 Late Sunday night, Shelby and Kelly received devastating news: Foxx has a tumour on his right kidney. He was admitted to Pediatric Oncology at the Stollery.

 On Monday, further testing revealed that the cancer had spread to his lungs.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 They are still waiting for biopsy results to better understand exactly what they are up against. What we do know is that Foxx has a mass on his right kidney with nodules that have spread to his lungs, making this a Stage 4 childhood cancer diagnosis.
</div>

<div>
 No family is ever prepared to hear those words.
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Right now, Shelby and Kelly’s only focus is getting Foxx the care he needs. They are facing a long road of hospital living, treatments, surgeries, and countless unknowns. During this time, they will also be trying to care for their four other young boys, manage childcare, keep up with their mortgage and monthly bills, and survive one day at a time.

 Shelby was preparing to return to work after maternity leave, without employment benefits, when their world was turned upside down. Kelly is self employed and his business is dependent of him being able to put time in, which there is now none of. The financial burden of stepping away from work, living between home and the hospital, childcare, and everyday living expenses is a huge stressor for them right now.

 Last June, Amber was diagnosed with terminal Acute T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. In just over a year, she has endured more than most people face in a lifetime. Then, in January 2026, she received the news we had all been hoping for—she was in full remission.

 Despite these devastating circumstances, Amber hasn’t stopped fighting. Alongside chemotherapy, she is exploring every possible avenue with cancer specialists and other agencies to ensure every potential treatment option is considered. We want to make sure finances are never the reason a treatment, specialized care, expert opinion, or opportunity for hope is out of reach.

<div>Writing these words is one of the hardest things I've ever had to write. I never imagined I would find myself asking others for help, but today I'm putting my pride aside for my son.

<div>Leo is a happy little boy with the brightest smile and an incredible determination to keep trying, even when things are hard. His journey began with unexpected challenges. At birth, he suffered a severe hypoxic brain injury and a cervical spinal cord injury.

<div>Since then, Leo has endured multiple hospitalizations, surgeries, and countless medical appointments. Through it all, he continues to surprise us with his resilience. Every smile, every effort, and every tiny achievement reminds us just how hard he is willing to fight.

<div>Over the past year, we've learned that while there is no cure for Leo's condition, early and consistent rehabilitation can make a meaningful difference. Every new movement, every small achievement, and every developmental milestone is something he has to work incredibly hard to accomplish.

<div>After months of searching, we found a rehabilitation program that we truly believe gives Leo the best opportunity to continue making progress. His treatment plan includes ongoing therapy throughout the year, together with intensive rehabilitation sessions designed to help him build strength, improve his abilities, and develop new skills.

<div>We've already begun this journey, and we've learned that progress doesn't happen overnight. It comes one small step at a time. We've already seen small but meaningful changes—little improvements that may seem ordinary to others but mean everything to our family. <div>As Leo grows, his therapy needs will continue to change. Some periods require more intensive treatment than others, and the amount of therapy he needs may increase as he progresses. In addition to rehabilitation, Leo also requires specialized medical equipment and adaptive devices, many of which are only partially funded—or not funded at all. Even when financial assistance is available, families are often left with significant out-of-pocket expenses.

<div>  At less than three months old, sweet Cali went from being a happy, smiling baby to being critically ill needing to be airlifted to Edmonton in heart failure.

<div>  Last week, Cali underwent open-heart surgery to receive a Berlin Heart, a mechanical device that sits outside the body and will temporarily do the work of her heart until a donor heart becomes available. The expected wait for a suitable donor could be anywhere from one to two years, meaning Cali and her family will need to remain in Edmonton for the duration of that wait.

<div>  During this time, Cali’s parents, Corey and Carina, have had to leave their home in Grande Prairie and relocate to Edmonton with their two-year-old daughter. They do not know when they will be able to return home. The financial burden is growing quickly, with expenses including travel, temporary housing, furnishing an apartment, maintaining their mortgage and household bills in Grande Prairie, lost income while Corey takes time away from work, meals, pet care, and countless unexpected costs that come with a prolonged medical stay.

The treatment costs approximately $10,000, a cost that is not covered by Canada's publicly funded health care system.

Le jour où la vie décide qu’elle a un plan. Un changement de plan radical. Un plan que personne n’a demandé. Un plan qui vient tout bouleverser.

<div>À ce moment-là, Marie décide de s’accrocher à ce qu’elle connaît. Aux belles histoires, aux gens autour d’elle qui ont eu des opérations au cerveau et pour qui tout va relativement bien aujourd’hui. Alors dans sa tête à elle, ce sera simple et rapide. Une opération et après, la vie continue. Comme un détour, sans tempête.

<div>Quand elle a appris que j’ai lancé une collecte de fonds en décembre dernier, elle était sous le choc. Elle me répétait à plusieurs reprises.. « Mais Caro, je me sens mal, je n’aurai pas besoin de tout cet argent. » Parce que dans sa tête, elle retournait travailler dans 2 semaines. Et moi, je l’ai regardée, je l’ai écoutée, et j’ai décidé de la croire. Alors j’ai mis un stop à la campagne, parce que dans sa tête à elle, c’était une opération et ensuite la vie continue.

<div><strong>Les opérations</strong>

<div>La 1ère opération, en novembre 2025, servait à faire circuler le liquide céphalo-rachidien.
</div>
<div>On nous avait dit 40 minutes et ça a pris au total 4 heures, sans nouvelles. 4 heures à regarder un téléphone, 4 heures à retenir son souffle, 4 heures à imaginer tout ce que tu ne veux pas imaginer. Mais somme toute, ça s'est bien passé. (fiou!).

<div>Puis l’opération 2, en janvier 2026. La grosse. Celle qui a duré 13h heures sur la table d’opération pour un total plus de 16 heures sans nouvelles. Une journée complète où quelqu’un que tu aimes est couché sur une table et tous les gens qui l’aiment attendent sans contrôle, sans réponse, sans pouvoir rien faire. Le coeur serré. Stressé. L’appel du chirurgien post-opération: « Ça a été une réussite TOTALE » Et là… tu respires enfin. Puis il ajoute : « Mais.. Il reste 40 % de la tumeur… c’était trop risqué d’aller plus loin. »

<div>Et c’est là que tu comprends que ce n’est pas fini, que tout est un commencement.

<div>Quand je l’ai revue après l'opération, elle était fatiguée, épuisée. Elle avait de la difficulté à se tourner dans son lit, son corps était lent. Depuis le début, c’était la première fois que je la voyais comme ça. Désemparée. Elle venait de réaliser ce qu’elle venait de traverser. Elle me répétait en boucle: « Wow… ça a été toute qu’une épreuve ».

<div>Puis, quelques jours plus tard, une bosse apparaît derrière sa tête. Les étourdissements reviennent. Et là une 3e opération, en urgence cette fois-ci. Un drain permanent fut installé dans sa tête. Parce que même son corps avait besoin d’aide pour suivre lui aussi.

<div>Et après, le téléphone sonne.

<div>Un rendez-vous en oncologie.

<div>Le choc d’entendre le mot « oncologie ».

<div>Parce que personne ne te prépare à la suite. Personne ne t’explique vraiment le parcours. Personne n'avait osé prononcer le mot cancer avant ce jour. Personne.

<div>C’est à ce moment que l’oncologue annonce sans détour, le mot que personne ne veut entendre.. Celui que ton cerveau choisit de ne pas entendre. Il parle de la suite, des traitements, de la radiothérapie et pas de la petite radio, la cranio-spinale; celle qui cible le cerveau en entier ainsi que la moelle épinière.

</div>
<div>Parce que tout devient réel à ce moment-là. Le diagnostic, les possibilités, les risques.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Et puis la décision : que faire ? Parce que c’est important de prendre une décision éclairée. Faire plus, faire moins, protéger le corps ou maximiser les chances en allant de l’avant.
</div>

<div>Et elle a choisi de se battre en optant pour la radiothérapie. 40 traitements. 40 fois couchée dans un gros tube. 40 fois retenue par un masque attaché à son visage. 40 fois seule avec elle-même dans une machine pendant 1h.

</div>
<div>Et à chaque fois qu’elle sort, elle me regarde et me dit « ça a été agréable. » Parce qu’elle réussit à voir le côté positif même à travers la tempête… parce qu’elle a choisi de vivre.

<div><strong>Une maman et une femme forte avant tout</strong>

<div>Mais il y a quelque chose que vous devez comprendre. Marie n’est pas juste une femme forte. C’est une maman, la maman de Félix. Son petit garçon de 22 mois.

<div>C’est lui, sa raison de vivre. C’est pour lui qu’elle se lève même quand elle est épuisée. C’est pour lui qu’elle continue. C’est pour lui qu’elle endure tout ça.

Son corps, lui, est déjà vidé par 40 traitements de radiation. Et elle continue, elle se lève, encore et encore.

<div>Mais là, je vais être vraie… c’est dur, son corps est fatigué.

 Nous écrivons aujourd’hui avec le cœur lourd pour demander votre aide pour notre petite fille, Zoée, âgée de seulement 3 ans et demi, qui mène actuellement un combat immense contre un neuroblastome agressif, un cancer pédiatrique rare et très difficile.

 Notre vie a basculé du jour au lendemain lorsque nous avons appris ce diagnostic dévastateur. À un âge où elle devrait simplement jouer, rire et profiter de son enfance, notre petite Zoée doit maintenant faire face à des traitements intensifs, des rendez-vous médicaux, des hospitalisations et une longue bataille qui s’étendra sur environ un an.

 Comme parents, nous voulons être présents à chaque étape de ce combat.  Today, we are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our little girl, Zoée, who is only 3 and a half years old and is currently facing an unimaginable battle against aggressive neuroblastoma, a rare and very serious childhood cancer.

 Our world changed overnight when we received this devastating diagnosis. At an age when she should simply be playing, laughing, and enjoying childhood, little Zoée is now facing intensive treatments, medical appointments, hospital stays, and a long fight expected to last around one year.
</div>

 As parents, we want to be by her side every step of the way. Because of this, mom is unable to work during Zoée’s treatments and care, so she can be there for hospital stays, appointments, and to provide the love and support Zoée needs. At the same time, we are doing our best to support her big brother, Owen, as he navigates this difficult journey alongside us.

<div>At just 28 years old, Keeley has always been the person others could count on. She is a devoted mother to her eight-year-old son, who lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder and 22Q Deletion Syndrome. Since the heartbreaking loss of his father when he was only three years old, she has raised him on her own, facing every challenge with strength, determination, and love.
</div>
<div>For years, she was an active and engaged mother who loved camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors. She worked hard, participated in her community, and dedicated her life to caring for her son and helping him thrive despite the challenges he faces.
</div>

<div>Today, her life looks very different.
</div>

</div>
<div>Over the past two and a half years, she has developed a serious and still undiagnosed illness that specialists believe may be autoimmune, neurological, or a combination of both. Despite countless appointments, extensive testing, and consultations with numerous specialists, we still do not have answers.
</div>

<div>Her symptoms continue to worsen and now include severe muscle weakness, debilitating muscle and joint pain, significant hair loss, recurring skin ulcers, difficulty swallowing, frequent choking episodes, shortness of breath, chest pain, and episodes where her heart rate suddenly races to well over 140 beats per minute. Simple daily tasks that most people take for granted have become overwhelming challenges.

<div>As her condition has progressed, she has lost the ability to independently care for herself and her son. She now requires full-time support from her mother, who has stepped into the role of caregiver not only for her daughter, but also for her eight-year-old grandson with special needs.
</div>
<div>Together, we are doing everything we can to support them, but the physical, emotional, and financial strain has become overwhelming.
</div>
<div>Without a diagnosis, doctors are limited in the treatments they can offer. Meanwhile, her condition continues to deteriorate, leaving our family increasingly concerned about her future.
</div>
<div>After two years of searching for answers, we are seeking an evaluation at the Mayo Clinic. We hope that access to world-renowned specialists will finally provide the answers that have remained out of reach and lead to a treatment plan that can stop the progression of her illness and restore some quality of life.
</div>

<div>While we are grateful for the medical care Keeley has received, obtaining answers through the Canadian healthcare system has been a long and difficult process. Accessing specialist appointments, diagnostic testing, and results often involves waiting months at each stage. After two years of searching for answers, many important questions remain unresolved.
</div>
<div>Although funding for out-of-country medical care may be available in some circumstances, it generally requires that available diagnostic and treatment options within Canada first be exhausted. At the pace of the current process, we may still be a long way from reaching that point.
</div>

</div>
<div>Meanwhile, Keeley’s condition continues to deteriorate. Every month that passes brings increasing weakness, pain, and loss of function.
</div>
<div>Our family has been advised that pursuing an evaluation at the Mayo Clinic is a path worth exploring. In fact, more than one specialist involved in Keeley’s care has suggested that it may be time to seek assessment there in hopes of finding answers that have remained elusive despite two years of testing and consultations.
</div>
<div>Our rheumatologist estimates that the medical costs alone could exceed $20,000 CAD. This estimate does not include travel, accommodations, meals, transportation, or other expenses associated with receiving care outside of Canada. While we continue to pursue every available option at home, the financial reality of accessing specialized care is far beyond what our family can manage on our own.
</div>

<div>The primary goal of this fundraiser is to help make a Mayo Clinic evaluation possible. However, because medical circumstances, recommendations, and costs can change, any funds raised will be used to support Keeley’s ongoing medical journey, including specialized consultations, diagnostic testing, treatments, medications, travel, accommodations, and other healthcare-related expenses required to pursue answers and appropriate care.

<div>Brian was admitted to a hospital in Vancouver, which is an hour and a half from their home in Abbotsford. He had been suffering from severe pain from undiagnosed medical issues for months, dating back to February when he started being confined to his bed. What initially seemed like a standard enlarged prostate in need of surgery led to Brian being in the hospital with several complications that have required teams of medical professionals to come together to determine how to move forward. Scans indicated a mass in the pelvis and spots on the liver, lungs, and near the heart, which led to the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. On July 21st, Brian died in his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

<div>Originally, this fundraiser was meant to raise funds to help the Doerksens and their close community who were taking shifts to be in the hospital to have a home base close to help make decisions for Brian's care, support Joyce and the family, and also to help with food costs and with extra provisions for their special needs children. Brian hadn't been able to work since February, with all his spring tour dates being cancelled.

<div>For more than three years, Jennifer and Barron have watched their daughter, Ava, endure unimaginable pain while fighting for her life with severe gastrointestinal and vascular complications resulting from a MALS diagnosis (Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome). What should have been some of the happiest years of her young life have instead been filled with hospital rooms, medical procedures, uncertainty and fear. She lives by tube feeding, constant pain and days full of vomiting.

<div>Ava has endured repeated hospitalizations, countless tests and procedures, and three life-threatening episodes of sepsis. Through it all, she has shown extraordinary courage and determination, even on the days when simply getting through the next hour felt impossible.

<div>After exhausting every available treatment option in Arizona, Ava's medical team delivered devastating news. They had done everything they could. The specialized care that Ava needed could only be found at Cleveland Clinic.

<div>For Jennifer and Barron, it was a moment that changed everything.

<div>Their daughter's chance at recovery depended on treatment hundreds of miles from home. Yet, despite the recommendations of her physicians, United Healthcare insurance denied coverage for Ava's emergency air ambulance and the specialized care she needed because it was considered out of network. Even today they still continue to deny coverage. Faced with an impossible choice, Ava's parents did what any loving parent would do. They refused to give up.

<div>They drained their savings. They used retirement funds, sold their vehicle. They downsized their lives. They sacrificed everything they could because nothing mattered more than helping their daughter.

<div>Thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, and supporters, Ava was able to receive lifesaving treatment at Cleveland Clinic in 2024. Unfortunately, even with available benefits, there are still significant out-of-pocket costs that she simply cannot afford after losing her income. It is an incredibly difficult burden to carry on top of everything else that comes with a cancer diagnosis.

<div>Unfortunately, because she is unable to work, she is struggling to keep up with the financial responsibilities that don’t stop simply because someone gets sick. She is also continuing to pay for her education. Even with financial assistance through Manitoba Student Aid, there are still tuition and educational costs that she is responsible for.

<div>Late Tuesday evening, July 7, 2026, Isla began experiencing severe lower back pain prompting her parents, Danielle Shaw and Chris Corbett (Archie), to take her to the emergency department. It quickly became clear that she was seriously unwell, and she was airlifted to BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

<div>She has since been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

<div>She is a smart, silly, and otherwise healthy, active 6-year-old who loves gymnastics and soccer. She recently completed Grade 1 at K’ak’ot’lats’i School and was looking forward to the summer filled with camping, swimming, and making memories in her traditional homelands, ’Wuìkinux̌v, Rivers Inlet.

LJ is my 8-year-old cousin who loves playing football and baseball. He’s always been an active kid, full of energy and joy. On the morning of June 28th, LJ woke up feeling very sick and began throwing up. My uncle rushed him to the Emergency Room, where we received the heartbreaking news that LJ has leukemia. He was air lifted from a hospital in Missouri to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock to begin ongoing chemotherapy and further treatment.

 LJ’s journey has been tough, but he’s fighting every day. Once he’s stable enough to be released, he’ll need at-home care and special equipment to help him recover. This means my uncle will have to stay home to care for LJ, making it impossible for him to return to work right now. Standing with Scott Sinclair: Battling Stage 4 Cancer

<div>This is very difficult for me to ask, but our family is going through an incredibly hard time right now.

<div>My husband, Matt, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, May 17th, with a severe sepsis infection in his hand following surgery he had on May 5th. While in the hospital, he developed pneumonia late Tuesday, May 19th. The infection quickly spread to both lungs, and his condition declined rapidly.
</div>

</div>
<div>By Thursday evening, Matt was moved to the ICU and placed on a ventilator. Doctors also had to medically paralyze him so the machines could fully breathe for him while his body fought the infection. After extensive testing, the doctors believe the pneumonia was caused by aspiration into his lungs.

<div>Thankfully, Matt has recently started to show small signs of improvement and is beginning to turn a corner. If all continues to go well, the doctors are hopeful he may be off the ventilator by Friday, May 29th. However, this is only the beginning of what will be a long and difficult recovery.

<div>Matt is a self-employed contractor, and after several years of inconsistent work contracts, we unfortunately do not have savings to rely on during this time. Dylan Milmine is a devoted husband to his wife Lori-Ann, a loving father to their five-year-old son, Declan, a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and a man who has been leading his family with humility, compassion, and sacrificial love. Lori-Ann is a devoted wife and mother who faithfully cares for their home while homeschooling Declan. Together, they have built a Christ-centered marriage and family rooted in faith, love, and service to others.

<div>In early May, Dylan went to the emergency department because of unusual swelling throughout his body. What initially seemed like an isolated medical concern quickly became something far more serious. After several days of testing, doctors first suspected lymphoma. Further investigations, however, revealed a massive tumor behind his heart (believed to be larger than his heart itself) that had likely been growing silently for years without causing noticeable symptoms.

<div>At the end of May, Dylan received the devastating diagnosis: a rare neuroendocrine tumor.
</div>

</div>
<div>Initially, doctors explained that this type of cancer often responds poorly to standard chemotherapy and that the tumor's size and location made surgery far too dangerous. After numerous consultations and additional testing at Juravinski Cancer Centre, a treatment plan involving aggressive chemotherapy was proposed in the hope of shrinking the tumor enough to make surgery possible. Sadly, Dylan’s condition has deteriorated much more quickly than anyone anticipated. He continues to experience severe swelling throughout his body, painful rashes, overwhelming exhaustion, and has been unable to work for the last couple of months.
</div>

<div>Further testing revealed that the tumor is causing Cushing’s syndrome, producing dangerously elevated hormone levels that have affected him physically, mentally, and emotionally. As if that were not enough, the family also learned that the cancer has spread to his bones and lymph nodes. Dylan has now been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
</div>

<div>Because of his rapid decline, Dylan’s oncologist and surgical team have changed course. They no longer believe there is time to proceed with chemotherapy. Instead, they are recommending an extremely complex and high-risk surgery as soon as possible to remove the massive tumor and two cancerous lymph nodes. The family understands the seriousness of this operation and the significant risks involved. At the same time, they are deeply grateful that the medical team believes surgery offers Dylan his best opportunity to fight this disease.

<div>Throughout this unimaginable journey, Dylan and Lori-Ann have continued to place their trust in God. They believe wholeheartedly that the Lord is able to perform miracles while also finding peace in His faithful presence each day. Their hope is not found in a diagnosis or a prognosis, but in the promises of Christ. They have been surrounded by an extraordinary community of family, friends, and churches who continue to faithfully intercede for them in prayer.

<div>As may be expected, while Dylan’s illness has progressed, the financial burden has become overwhelming. Dylan has been unable to work since May 5th, leaving the family without its primary source of income, and only a small percentage of government assistance. Meanwhile, Lori-Ann continues to care for Dylan while homeschooling Declan and managing the many responsibilities that accompany ongoing medical appointments and treatments. They can already notice the worry their little Declan has expressed – his whole world has been turned upside down as his hero is not the same daddy he knew. Daily life has been overwhelming and difficult to manage for this beloved family.

<div>Shortly after my cousin's daughter Isla was born, she was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia (FA), a rare genetic disorder that affects the body’s ability to repair DNA. Because of this, she is somewhere between 500 to 3,000 times more likely to develop certain types of cancer and bone marrow failure.

<div>Over the last 7 years she has been a regular at the IWK, being followed by hematology, nephrology, ENT and many other services for countless tests, annual bone marrow biopsies, imaging, and regular blood draws. As her blood counts have continued to trend down, she is now at the point of receiving monthly blood transfusions.

<div>Isla’s blood levels are now at a critical point where she requires a bone marrow transplant, with the goal of curing the hematological effects of the disease. She is extremely fortunate that her younger brother Conor (3), is a perfect bone marrow match.
</div>

<div>The two of them (plus Mom and Dad) will need to travel to Toronto for the procedure, which will cause them to need to take time off work for approximately 6 months while shouldering significant travel, medical and living costs, some of which aren’t covered by insurance or healthcare. When Isla returns home, she will continue to be followed by specialists for the rest of her life due to her increased risk of cancer that will remain after her transplant.

<div>Regular hospital visits have always been the norm for Isla and she has never failed to surprise her family with how brave and resilient she is. Nicolas devra faire de la chimiothérapie pour réduire la masse avant l’opération. Ses soins doivent se dérouler au CHUL de Québec à 3h30 de la maison.

<div>Le 8 juin, Nicolas entre au CHUL pour une panoplie d’examens et le verdict  s’alourdit : Cancer des os, masse cancéreuse à la jambe et en plus des métastases à la colonne et à la hanche gauche sont détectés. Est mise en place, un plan de traitement d’une durée de 1 an. Tous les 14 jours, des séjours de 3 à 6 jours au CHUL sont nécessaires pour les traitements de chimiothérapie, au travers de la chimio, il y aura un 5 semaine de radiothérapie qui sera fait et d’ici quelques mois l’opération délicate d’enlever le reste de la masse et reconstruire le fémur.

<div>If you know our mom, Kim, you know she is one of the kindest, most caring people you'll ever meet. She's always the first to show up for others, making holidays magical, decorating our home for Halloween and Christmas, and finding joy in making other people smile.

<div>On Wednesday, June 24, our lives changed forever.

<div>Our Olivia, who is only 11 years old, found our mom at home unable to speak. She knew something was terribly wrong. Dawson rushed Mom to Prince Albert for emergency medical care. After initial testing, doctors believed her symptoms were caused by a neurological migraine. Strokes can sometimes be difficult to identify early, especially on initial imaging. The next morning, Mom was transferred to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, and there our family learned she had suffered a stroke.

<div>Mom is currently living with aphasia. She knows exactly what she wants to say, but sometimes the right word won't come, or it doesn't come out the way she intends. The good news is that every day her speech improves a little more, and each new word is another step forward in her recovery.
</div>

<div>After several days waiting in the emergency and  being admitted to the neurology unit, Mom was transferred to Saskatoon City Hospital, where she has begun rehabilitation.
</div>
<div>At only 44 years old, doctors are still trying to understand why this happened. We're still waiting for answers.

</div>
<div>This has come during a time when our family was already grieving the recent loss of our grandpa, making this journey even more difficult.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our dad is doing everything he can to be by Mom's side while keeping life together for our family. He has very little time off work remaining, but right now there's nowhere else he'd rather be. Mom needs him, and we need both of them. Our aunts and uncles come as often as they can and care for her as well.

<div>Recovery from a stroke isn't measured in days or weeks. It will take months of rehabilitation, appointments, and adjusting to a life none of us expected.

<div>One of the hardest parts has been watching Mom become frustrated when the words don't always come as easily as they once did. She has always been fiercely independent and the one caring for everyone else.

Help Our Mom Recover from Life Changing Stroke 

<p>Canadian oncologist just told us "there's nothing more we can do" BUT MD Anderson in Houston TX disagrees.

<p>To anyone who has had the privilege of knowing my sister, Marcie, or even sharing a brief interaction with her, you know just how incredible she is. Marcie has a way of instantly making people feel welcome, loved, and like lifelong friends. 
</p><br />
<p>Today, we are asking for your help from the bottom of our hearts. 
</p><br />
<p>In August 2025, Marcie was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. For the past 10 months, she has been fighting with everything she has. She has endured extensive chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy treatments, while spending countless days and nights in the hospital, all with one goal in mind, to get back home to her family. 
</p><br />
<p>Through it all, she has shown unimaginable strength, especially for her beautiful son, Beau, who is now 17 months old. Every single day, she continues to fight for more time with him and the people she loves. 
</p><br />
<p>Recently, her oncologist told us there were no more treatment options available and that there was nothing else they could do. Hearing those words was devastating. 
</p><br />
<p>But we refuse to give up.

<p>After reaching out to a cancer center in the United States, we were told there are still options available. There are clinical trials and additional chemotherapy treatments that have shown promise and could give Marcie another chance.

<p>We are now hoping to travel to Houston receive treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Marcie is determined to keep fighting and is willing to give everything she has to beat this disease.

<p>The cost of treatment has been estimated at $140,000 USD, an overwhelming amount for any family to face. We are prepared to do everything we can to make this possible, but we cannot do it alone.

She was rushed to the hospital ER, where she had a major heart attack and collapsed. Doctors performed emergency intervention and placed her on an ECMO machine to keep her alive. Despite their best efforts, her heart was too damaged and eventually stopped beating. While in the ICU she also developed pneumonia, and the situation looked like it was taking a turn for the worst, but the medical team fought hard to stabilize her, and miraculously she is still with us.

<div>Today, Jessica is fully dependent on the ECMO machine (an artificial heart and lung support system) as doctors work to get her strong enough for another life-saving heart transplant.

<div>The wait to get the surgery done in Alberta, through the public system, is 2+ years. This long wait would prolong his pain, confine him to a wheelchair, and lead to other medical complications. After significant research, Patrick has found a private clinic in Montreal to be the least expensive alternative and his surgery is booked for July 14th 2026.

<div>On June 25, 2026, our cousin Mouad was violently attacked by a pitbull. The attack caused extremely severe injuries to his face and arm and nearly cost him his cheek, lip, ear, and eye.

<div>What was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life turned into a nightmare. Just days after graduating from the University of Ottawa, he was attacked by a dog while working his shift.

<div>Ivy has always been the most calm, happy, and joyful little baby, bringing endless light to everyone around her. Now, she and her family are facing the biggest battle of their lives.

<div>Ivy’s parents, Sarah and Ryan, welcomed her into the world on August 12, 2024, in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Nine months ago, the family relocated to Okotoks, where they have been building their lives alongside Ivy’s big sister, Hazel (7), and big brother, Holden (4.5). The family is also preparing to welcome a blessing, a new baby boy due this September.

My parents came to visit us on march 26 and everything was going good but all of the sudden on June 16 my mom had sore throat and she took medicine after dinner but she started complaining about shortness of breath around 11 PM and her body was super cold and her blood pressure getting dropped then we took her to emergency they put her on ventilator right away because of swollen of throat her airway getting narrow. Doctor told us she had bruise around her neck might be she fell. But after that they noticed it start spreading all over neck and on her body. Infection getting high and high. Doctor didn’t understand what going on then they moved her university of Alberta. Doctor from University of Alberta told us she is having necrotizing fasciitis disease Which means flesh eating bacteria which is rare severe bacterial infection. That bacteria eating her skin tissue and enter in her blood and making her blood acidic. Doctor’s performed number of surgeries to removed all her dead skin from neck to chest and on her arms and right side of her back and they will do more surgeries if infection spreads on other body parts .Because she came on visitor visa and we don’t have any type of medical coverage it will be so hard for us to pay all bills We really need your help. We are going through very tough time. Doctor told us it long process to recover and more surgeries to come.I have 2 little kids. Unfortunately she passed away on 23 June 2026. <div>For more than 18 years, Puja worked as a dental hygienist. She has always been independent, hardworking, and dedicated to providing for her family. As her health challenges increased, she split her work between two offices closer to home so she could continue supporting her children while managing the physical demands of treatment and chronic pain.

<div>Unfortunately, this decision came with an unexpected consequence. By moving away from her previous full-time position, she lost her employer-provided benefits and disability coverage. Although she explored obtaining disability insurance independently, the cost was approximately $700 per month — An unaffordable expense while raising two children on a single income.

<div>Before she could regain comprehensive coverage, her metastatic diagnosis changed everything.
