 Some families are asked to carry more than anyone should ever have to.

 On September 11, 2026, Ty and Ayla received news that every parent fears: their six-month old son, Oliver, was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. A very rare and serious form of cancer in the eye.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 In an instant, their world flipped upside down.
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
 Only about 20–25 children in Canada are diagnosed with Retinoblastoma each year, which is why Oliver's treatment needs to take place at the SickKids Hospital in Toronto, where one of the country’s leading retinoblastoma teams provides this highly specialized care. Oliver is expected to require numerous rounds of Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy (IAC), a treatment that delivers chemotherapy directly into the artery supplying the eye to target the tumour while reducing exposure to the rest of his body. Oliver will also require ongoing care in Winnipeg, with years of specialized follow-up to give him the best chance at preserving his remaining vision, including frequent eye exams, patching therapy, glasses and more. Unfortunately the large tumour in Oliver's right eye has already affected his vision but the focus now is to first and foremost save his life, then save his eye and then attempt to preserve as much vision as possible.

 The road ahead is uncertain and with each treatment comes an emotional and financial burden on the family including travel costs, hotel stays, transportation, meals, other accommodations and of course further on-going procedures and treatment plans depending on how the tumour responds.

 Oliver is the happiest little boy who is always smiling, incredibly easygoing, and so unbelievably strong. Despite everything Oliver is facing he continues to remind us what resilience looks like. He is deeply loved by his entire family including his two proud big brothers, Mason (5) and James (3), who absolutely adore him.

 For those of you who know Ayla and Tyler, know that this year has already been an incredibly challenging time with unrelated medical emergencies, but the recent diagnosis of Oliver has truly been a devastating blow for the family. They have faced devastating conversations, countless appointments, hospital visits and ongoing uncertainty with unwavering love and courage. They are the kind of people who have always shown up for others, and now it's our turn to show up for them.

 My name is LeeAnn Ball but some may know me better as Leah Sparks and I have been a professional circus artist for over a decade and just over 3 years ago I began chasing another dream as a Professional Wrestler.

 During my last match I experienced a serious injury where I broke my neck on both sides of my C2 and dislocated the right side. It required immediate surgery and after a week long stay in the hospital, I have been discharged and am currently on the road to recovery with my friends and family. I am walking and talking and navigating everything the best I can.

 For as long as I can remember, I’ve dedicated myself and my body to being a storyteller. My favourite way to share stories and connect with people has always been through movement. Pro Wrestling and Circus have been the two main ways I’ve explored that passion and earned my income. This injury has completely shaken a huge part of my life and what I love, and there is still so much uncertainty surrounding what comes next.

 For 37 years, she has been my best friend and there really aren't enough words to describe what she means to me and so many others.

 Tracy isn't just an incredible friend. She is a devoted mom to Nickolas and Alyssa, a dedicated wife to Aaron and an amazing sister, daughter and aunty. She is one of the most endlessly selfless people I know. She is the person who will drop everything to help someone, who shows up when people need her, and who would genuinely do almost anything for the people she loves. And she does it without expecting anything in return.

 Seventeen years ago, Tracy was diagnosed with Myxoid Liposarcoma after a tumour was found in her leg. She went through surgery and treatment, beat it, and moved forward with her life. She has always been a fighter. After nearly two decades, we never imagined we'd be facing it again.

 This past March, Tracy was diagnosed again with Stage 4 Myxoid Liposarcoma, an extremely rare form of cancer. In June, she underwent major surgery, including the removal of a 6-pound cancerous tumour from her abdomen, as well as more than 20% of her liver. She faced everything that came with that surgery head-on and absolutely rocked it. We were hoping that surgery would be the beginning of a new chapter.

 Unfortunately, the news that followed was not what any of us were hoping for. We learned that her cancer has spread and that, medically, it is considered very serious. But Tracy has faced this before, and she is facing it again with the same strength and determination.
</div>

 Over the next 6 months, Tracy, alongside her medical team, will undergo a specialized inpatient chemotherapy treatment. At the same time, Tracy and those who love her are exploring additional treatment options and therapies that may be available to her. Many of these options are not covered through the healthcare system or insurance, and the costs can become significant very quickly.

Supporting Tracy Through Cancer Treatment

 For those of you who have the pleasure of knowing Ryan Chapman and Sarah Teno, you will know that they are an incredibly kind, fun-loving and exceptionally devoted couple of 12 years. In case you haven’t met them, they were recently married on Oct 25, 2025 and have resided in Atikokan since February of 2023. Sarah is one of our police officers and Ryan works at Domtar.

 On July 5th, after experiencing severe headaches requiring transport to Thunder Bay for further evaluation, Ryan and Sarah were completely blindsided and devastated with the worst news imaginable. Ryan was told he had a mass in his brain, which was confirmed to be Glioblastoma on August 24th. Glioblastoma is incredibly aggressive and unfortunately has a very poor prognosis. Ryan has had many complications along the way and the tumor cannot be operated on because of where it is located in the brain. Because of these reasons, cancer treatment cannot proceed. Ryan remains at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre as he requires a higher level of care than can be provided in Atikokan, which is 200km away from home.

 I, along with other family and friends, decided to create a GoFundMe on behalf of Ryan and Sarah as well as their immediate family who have travelled from southern Ontario to be with Ryan and Sarah. Sarah has been unable to work and has had to make many trips to and from Thunder Bay. There are many costs associated with Ryan’s dire situation as with so many future unknowns. I am asking our community and friends and family of Ryan and Sarah to rally because right now, they need to see just how much they are loved by all of us. The financial support and kind messages will be something that will fill their hearts and will be remembered forever. No one should have to go through what they are experiencing, especially within the first year of their new life together.  In January, Summer began experiencing pain in her back. By July, doctors had found a tumour and she was admitted to BC Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of cancer affecting the bone. Summer’s tumour is in her L2 vertebra.

</div>
<div>
 Summer is 14 — vivacious, sassy, funny and very much herself. Since July, she has completed five rounds of chemotherapy, with treatment approximately every other week.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 There is still a long stretch of treatment ahead. Next, Summer will receive proton radiation Monday through Friday for approximately 30 treatments. Because the specialized proton radiation she needs is not available to her in Canada, Summer and one of her parents will relocate to Seattle for approximately six weeks. When radiation is complete, she will return to Vancouver and continue chemotherapy, with at least six more rounds still ahead.

 Since July, Vancouver has become a second home but they made a hard choice to divide in September and Shar and Sonny split their time between Ronald McDonald House and Victoria — one parent with Summer and one at home with Piper, who has returned to school. They travel back and forth so they can be together as a family whenever possible. Summer herself has only been able to return home once since treatment began.

<div>
 Through all of this, they are still them. There is humour, music, little adventures when Summer feels well enough, meals shared together and an appreciation for the ordinary moments they probably wouldn’t have thought twice about before.

 They’ve come to call these moments their Glimmers of Goodness — noticing the good without ignoring the hard.
</div>

 Over the past few months, so many people have reached out to ask, “How can we help?” Asking for and accepting help doesn’t come easily, but right now, this is one way.

 There is support they are incredibly grateful for. Ronald McDonald House has provided a home away from home in Vancouver, and some travel is supported when Summer herself is travelling. Friends, family and community have stepped in with meals, messages, visits, yellow bracelets and countless acts of kindness.

 Funds raised will help offset reduced income and the additional costs of treatment, travel and living away from home. They will also give Shar and Sonny some breathing room in the months ahead, allowing decisions to be based on what Summer and Piper need rather than what they can afford in that particular moment.

 There is no way to know exactly what the coming months will bring or what life will look like when active treatment ends. For now, the focus is getting Summer through the treatment still ahead while keeping their family connected through it.

 Friends, our dearest Ron, has had an catastrophic event befall him..

 just over a week ago Ron suddenly took ill with dizziness and weakness and was admitted to Markham Stouffville Hospital. They discovered that he had developed sepsis, at that point the cause unknown, with bloodclots in his lungs and kidneys.
</div>
<div>
 This was completely unexpected and a shock to him and his family.
</div>
<div>
 Doctors then discovered that he had abscesses on his spine, at which point he was transported to Sunnybrook for emerg surgery. He has come through that well, but will be in hospital for at least a couple of months, with rehab to follow.

 I know how many people love Ron. I love Ron. I am asking for your help in supporting this amazing musician, our friend and colleague.

<div>Laurie was recently diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer, and needs some help to get through her final months. Doctors have given her a six month expectancy.

<div>After a serious fall in her home, Laurie broke her femur, pelvis, tailbone and ribs. It was during the scans for these injuries that her cancer was discovered. Due to her broken bones, she has severe mobility issues and needs help with daily tasks.

<div>Costs include transport to and from the hospital, rent and groceries, and medical equipment rental.

They turned that grief into helping others experiencing baby and child loss through volunteering and Amy’s work for Empty Arms at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, carrying countless families in their darkest moments.  On July 1, 2026, at just 39 years old, Stacy received news no young mother ever expects to hear: she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

 On August 5, the family learned that the tumour had doubled in size. Just six days later, on August 11—Stacy's birthday—she underwent surgery to remove approximately 80% of the tumour.

 While the surgery was necessary, Stacy's recovery has been challenging. She is experiencing numbness and deficits on her left side that affect her mobility and motor skills, along with ongoing headaches. She now requires a walker and is currently unable to safely lift or care for her three-month-old baby on her own.

 At home, Stacy and her husband, Devin, are also raising their three-year-old son and their three-month-old baby. With Stacy's current mobility challenges, caring for two young children has become even more difficult.

 AHS has indicated that the wait time could be approximately 6–8 months, meaning the family may need to find ways to manage safely while waiting for this support.

 As you may already know, our friend Dana hasn’t had the very best of years. In February, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). After many rounds of chemotherapy, his medical team realized he also had diffused B cell lymphoma. It’s rare to have both, but as we know, Dana knows how to stand out from the crowd.

 The good news is that after months and months of treatment and hospitalization, his cancer is now in remission, thanks largely to his CAR T cell therapy and the expert care he received at Cross Cancer Clinic. To keep the nasty disease away, however, Dana needs a stem cell transplant, which is available to him in Calgary.

 He’ll arrive there in mid-October and expects to be in Cowtown until at least the end of January. That means he and Davina will need to rent a place for three months minimum while also keeping up with expenses at their Edmonton home. (Ever had a heating bill in the middle of an Alberta winter? Additionally, Davina has had to give up a gig, so money they were counting on will not be there, and of course, neither of them will be working while away, so this part of the roller coaster ride will add up.

 Before cancer entered our lives, Ivy was the heart of our family. A devoted Nana to eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, she was the person everyone gravitated toward — kids and animals alike seemed to sense something magnetic in her. During the pandemic, she spent hours on FaceTime with her grandchildren, making sure distance never meant disconnection. She was the one who quilted, baked, cooked, and spent summer days out on her boat. She was the one who nursed all of us through our hard times, giving the shirt off her back without a second thought.

 Ivy has been diagnosed with two rare and aggressive cancers — a chordoma and a spindle cell sarcoma. After an extensive, nine-hour surgery in June to remove what we thought was just a chordoma, we received her second diagnosis. This sarcoma is growing at a rapid rate, is in a place that is inaccessible through surgery, and is causing extreme pain along with other debilitating side-effects. So, now her treatment is radiation therapy at a Toronto hospital, and getting her there is no small thing. Ivy and my Dad live in Cobourg, a three-hour round trip from the city. For someone who can barely walk, that drive every single day isn't possible. They need to be in Toronto for the duration of her two-month treatment.
</div>

 But accessible, affordable housing in Toronto is incredibly hard to find. The low-cost options available have stairs...and stairs are something Ivy simply cannot manage right now. Finding a safe, accessible place to stay is both urgent and expensive.

 At the same time, my sister Cindy has left her job to become Ivy's full-time caregiver. She provides 24-hour care — the kind of care that means Ivy can still be home and still be with family. Cindy has exhausted her Ontario Caregiver benefits, and without income, the family is stretched thin trying to cover everyday bills, gas for my Dad to visit, medical equipment like a hospital bed, and the costs that quietly pile up when someone you love is seriously ill.

Support Winsome in Her Fight Against Lymphoma

 Jack is a grade five student at Frank L Bowser school and a member of their InHarmony group. He loves soccer, basketball, and is a goalie with Riverview Minor Hockey. Jack loves the Edmonton Oilers and is a die-hard Wildcats fan. He loves the outdoors, video games, and spending time with his friends and family. Jack should be looking forward to his last year of elementary school and gearing up for the 26/27 hockey season. Instead, he and his family are facing a cancer diagnosis.

 Jack's journey began mid-June with unexplained difficulty breathing and chest pain. Numerous hospital visits and a transfer to the IWK ultimately led to the discovery that he has Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The large tumour put significant strain on his breathing and Jack underwent multiple painful procedures to reduce fluid build up in his chest. July 13th He was finally stable enough to be discharged home and able to continue his chemo in Moncton.

 Jack’s treatment protocol is intense and condensed. His body has very little time to rest and recover between treatments. He will soon undergo surgery, followed by radiation and more chemotherapy. Beyond initial treatment Jack will require close monitoring and follow ups with his team at the IWK. Although the road ahead is long, Jack faces every step with courage and a positive attitude.

<div>After several days of testing. 4 year old HumaiR was diagnosed with: B-cell Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

<div> Cole and his wife Hatima also have 2 other young children aged 1 and 10. They are trying to  relocate their children to Vancouver, while trying to balance online &amp; home schooling.

 A few weeks ago, their world changed in an instant.

 Kaya became unwell and was taken to the emergency room. What started as a trip to the hospital quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare; doctors discovered a tumour in the back of her head.

 Kaya was urgently transferred to BC Children’s Hospital, where she underwent major brain surgery. Thankfully, the surgeons were able to remove the tumour they could see.
</div>

 Pathology later confirmed that the tumour was <strong>medulloblastoma, a type of childhood brain cancer.</strong>
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Kaya now faces a long and difficult treatment journey involving chemotherapy and radiation. Much of her treatment will take place in Seattle and Vancouver, with additional care happening closer to home in Victoria. Her family has been told to expect approximately <strong>58 weeks of treatment</strong>, followed by ongoing rehabilitation and recovery.

 For Jenn and Jay, life has been turned completely upside down.

 They are facing months of hospital appointments, treatment, travel between Victoria, Vancouver and Seattle, accommodations, time away from work, and all of the unexpected expenses that come with caring for a child through cancer treatment.

 And in the middle of all of this is Kaya’s big brother, <strong>Bodhi</strong>.

His sister is going through cancer treatment, his parents are spending countless hours in hospitals and travelling for her care, and his normal routine has been turned upside down. While everyone is focused on getting Kaya through this, we want to make sure Bodhi feels supported, loved and surrounded by his own village too. ❤️

 She even recently shaved her head, so that it’s her choice instead of waiting for her hair to fall out from treatment.

 She is facing this with an incredible amount of strength and determination.

 Her oncology team has told her family that her cancer is <strong>treatable and curable</strong>, giving everyone hope as they face the long road ahead.

Kaya’s Village: Supporting Her Cancer Journey

<p>My name is Maggie Wolf and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my uncle, Peter Bueckert, and his family who live in Mexico. This family is especially dear to me, my cousins were more like brothers and my aunt and uncle more like second parents when I was young as we often lived together with my grandma ❤️ About 2 weeks ago he began to feel unwell. It very quickly escalated to seizures that left him with a broken tongue from biting it during the attacks, so swollen he couldn't close his mouth. He was brought to Santa Maria hospital where he was put into a medically induced coma and was also diagnosed with pneumonia. They treated him there for 10 days and then released him as they didn't have more help to offer, but he was still clearly unwell so he was taken to another hospital, San Jorge. Shortly after his arrival there, he suffered from a heart attack and the family was told he still had severe pneumonia and that there was a 50/50 chance he would survive. He was once again put into a medically induced coma for about 4 days. Today he was taken out of the coma and things are looking hopeful! Praise God! As you can imagine having 2 extended stays in separate hospitals has really added up. We are hoping to help ease the financial burden as I'm sure the road to recovery will continue to be costly. Prayers have been a lifeline throughout this whole time with all of us joining in earnest on behalf of the family and God has been so faithful in providing strength where none was and healing when it wasn't very likely. We are so grateful! Health is more valuable than money and is a gift given by God alone so we ask for continued prayer and if you are able, then we also humbly ask for donations. Dort wurde er zehn Tage lang behandelt und dann entlassen, da keine weitere Hilfe verfügbar war. Da es ihm aber immer noch sehr schlecht ging, wurde er in ein anderes Krankenhaus, das San Jorge, verlegt. Kurz nach seiner Ankunft erlitt er dort einen Herzinfarkt. Der Familie wurde mitgeteilt, dass er immer noch eine schwere Lungenentzündung habe und seine Überlebenschancen bei 50 Prozent lägen. Er wurde erneut für etwa vier Tage in ein künstliches Koma versetzt. Heute ist er daraus erwacht und es sieht vielversprechend aus! Gott sei Dank! Wie Sie sich vorstellen können, haben die zwei längeren Aufenthalte in verschiedenen Krankenhäusern die Familie finanziell sehr belastet. Wir hoffen, die finanzielle Belastung etwas lindern zu können, da der Genesungsprozess sicherlich weiterhin kostspielig sein wird. Die Gebete waren in dieser ganzen Zeit ein Rettungsanker, und wir alle haben von Herzen für die Familie gebetet. Gott war so treu und hat uns Kraft gegeben, wo keine war, und Heilung geschenkt, wo es unwahrscheinlich schien. Wir sind so dankbar! Gesundheit ist wertvoller als Geld und ein Geschenk Gottes allein. Peter and Anna Bueckert

My name is Marwa. My husband Ahmad is only 37 years old. In January, our life changed forever when he was diagnosed with Grade 3 Oligodendroglioma — an aggressive, malignant brain tumor.
He suffered a stroke and severe epileptic seizures. He had a 10-hour brain surgery in Calgary. The surgeons could not remove the entire tumor.
Thanks to your prayers and the grace of God, Ahmad finished 33 daily radiation sessions at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Next week, he starts chemotherapy at home.
He is still very weak. He has seizures and cannot be left alone for even one minute. I am his full-time caregiver.
We are surviving only on Alberta Works — $1,380 a month — which does not cover our rent, bills, food, and gas and parking for hospital trips. I cannot work because Ahmad needs 24/7 care. I also live with fibromyalgia, chronic migraine, and stage 4 endometriosis.
Today we received an eviction warning because we are short $600 for rent. We are at risk of losing our home right when chemo is starting.

Help My Husband Survive Grade 3 Brain Cancer

<div>My beautiful niece, Eloise, was diagnosed with a very rare condition called Sturge-Weber Syndrome when she was just one month old. This condition affects the brain and can cause seizures and other neurological problems.

<div>At only three months old, Eloise began having seizures. Since then, she and her mom, Anick, have been through more than any little girl and mother should ever have to face. Eloise has been hospitalized multiple times and has tried many different medications to control her seizures, including medications she takes every day and emergency medications for when a seizure won’t stop.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, the medications are no longer enough. Eloise’s seizures have become more frequent, more severe, and harder to control.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Recent brain scans have also shown that the right side of her brain is becoming more affected by her condition. Her doctors have now determined that the best option for her is a major brain surgery called a hemispherectomy.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In simple terms, the doctors will disconnect the affected side of Eloise’s brain from the healthy side. The right side is where her seizures are coming from, so by disconnecting it, the hope is to stop or greatly reduce the seizures and protect the healthy part of her brain from further harm.
</div>

</div>
<div>It’s incredibly hard to put into words what it feels like knowing that my niece, at such a young age, has to go through something this big.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Because the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, the surgery will affect Eloise’s ability to use her left side. After surgery, she is expected to have significant weakness and loss of function on the left side of her body, as well as some loss of her side vision.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Her recovery will take time. Eloise will need a lot of physiotherapy and rehabilitation to help her brain and body adjust and to work on movement, strength, and function on her left side. There will be many appointments, therapies, and a lot of healing ahead of her.
</div>

</div>
<div>Through all of this, her mom, Anick, has been by her side every step of the way. Anick is a single mom and the sole provider for Eloise, which makes the road ahead even more overwhelming as she tries to balance being there for her daughter while also carrying the financial responsibility of their household on her own. After surgery, Eloise will need her more than ever. Anick will need to take approximately 4–6 weeks away from work so she can be there around the clock while Eloise heals and begins physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

<div>As her sister and Eloise’s aunty, I wish more than anything that I could take some of this weight off their shoulders. I can’t change what Eloise has to go through, but I’m hoping we can come together and at least help ease some of the financial stress so Anick can focus entirely on what matters most right now, her little girl.

<div><span>Our family has been searching for additional treatment options outside Canada and is now exploring specialized treatment in Germany that is not available to Jaspreet here at home.</span><br />

Medical consultations, specialized testing, treatment, travel to Germany, accommodations and other medical expenses can quickly reach tens of thousands of dollars, and potentially much more depending on how many treatments Jaspreet requires.

 For those who know Miles, you know he is the sweetest little boy with the biggest heart. He lights up every room he walks into and is truly a little energizer bunny. His smile, his personality, and his endless energy bring so much joy to everyone around him.

 Miles was born with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and his family has always known that one day he would need a kidney transplant. Sadly, that time has now come. Miles’ kidney function has progressed to the point where a transplant is necessary.

 In an incredible act of love, his dad, Matt, has been found to be a perfect match and will be donating his kidney to Miles. The transplant surgery is scheduled for October 7th.

<p>On April 19th Zaria went into refractory Status Epilepticus 
</p><br />
<p>Despite all medications and high levels of sedation she continued to have seizures so severe her body could not keep up requiring her to be bagged over the vent. 
</p><br />
<p>On April 27th they performed emergency brain surgery to split her brain in half. 
</p><br />
<p>She has been in hospital now for over a month, and it is very much so a one step forward, one step back day by day. 
</p><br />
<p>Her care is intensive and ongoing. It includes medications that cost thousands per month without benefits, specialized feeding needs, medical equipment, mobility supports, frequent hospital visits, and time off work to be with her. This is not something one family can carry alone.

 On Thursday September 10th, Hunter was seriously injured during his football game in Swift Current.

 After taking a hit during the game, Hunter walked off the field but lost consciousness. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Swift Current, where testing revealed that he had suffered a brain bleed.

 Because of the severity of his injury, Hunter needed to be transferred to Regina by STARS Air Ambulance. He arrived shortly after midnight and was taken into emergency surgery around 1:00 a.m.
</div>

 Thankfully, the surgery went as well as the doctors could have hoped. Hunter had to have a portion of his skull removed to allow his brain room to heal from the swelling and bleeding. He is currently in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, completely sedated, and will remain sedated for the next several days. At this point, we expect him to spend weeks in the ICU, followed by what we know will be a long road to recovery.

 Right now, our family is focused on Hunter and getting him through the days ahead. There are still many unknowns about what his recovery will look like, how long he will be in the hospital, and what kind of care and rehabilitation he will need afterward.

<div>Castiel was born with a rare condition called Central Hypoventilation Syndrome, which affects his ability to breathe properly. He has a tracheostomy (trach) to help him breathe and requires constant care and attention.
</div>
<div>But despite everything he has been through, Cas has always been full of life. He is happy, energetic, and full of enthusiasm. His smile and personality light up the lives of everyone around him. His family has always believed that one day, Cas will overcome the challenges his illness has placed in front of him.
</div>
<div>Over the years, there have been frightening moments when Cas would stop breathing. His parents, Bea and Mark, have spent countless nights watching over him, making hospital trips, and doing everything they could to keep their little boy safe. Somehow, Cas always fought through those moments, recovered, and continued being the happy little boy everyone loves.

<div>But this time, everything changed.
</div>
<div>After finishing a meal, Cas went down for a nap. Suddenly, he stopped breathing.
</div>
<div>Bea and Mark knew exactly what they needed to do. They immediately acted and provided first aid while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

<div>While in the ambulance, Cas stopped breathing again. He turned blue, and his heart stopped.

<div>The paramedics were able to revive him, but Cas is now in a coma and fighting for his life in the ICU.

<div>Right now, his family is praying and hoping with all their hearts that Cas will wake up and come back to them — the same bright, bubbly, loving little boy they have always known.

<div>Ma vie a complètement basculé dans les dernières semaines lorsque j’ai appris que j’avais une tumeur au cerveau. Je vous rassure tout de suite : la tumeur est bénigne. Mais bénigne ne veut malheureusement pas dire sans conséquences.

<div><strong>Tout a commencé par des convulsions</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tout a commencé en avril dernier, lorsque j’ai commencé à faire des convulsions. Mon médecin de famille croyait qu’il s’agissait de crises d’anxiété ou de quelque chose de psychologique. Je n’étais pas vraiment convaincue, mais je lui faisais confiance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>À partir de juillet, les crises ont commencé à se rapprocher. Puis, j’en ai fait une au volant, et une autre alors que j’étais seule au parc avec mon fils de 2 ans. C’est à ce moment-là que j’ai vraiment commencé à avoir peur.

<div>J’ai décidé d’aller à l’urgence. C’est là que nous avons découvert un méningiome dans la région frontale droite de mon cerveau, qui est à l’origine de mes crises d’épilepsie. Et oui… mon instinct avait raison. Ce n’étaient pas simplement des crises d’anxiété.

<div>À l’urgence, on m’a également retiré mon permis de conduire. Ceux qui me connaissent le savent : mon auto est littéralement mon bureau. Je suis travailleuse autonome et une grande partie de mon travail se fait sur la route, avec mes clients. Perdre mon permis signifie donc, concrètement, perdre ma capacité de travailler. Et ça, c’est un énorme bouleversement, puisque je suis le principal revenu de ma famille.

<div>Il y a maintenant deux semaines, j’ai rencontré le neurochirurgien. Étant donné l’emplacement de la tumeur, tout près d’une zone importante qui contrôle la motricité, il me recommande fortement de procéder à une chirurgie, puisque je pourrais notamment avoir une perte de motricité, des engourdissements ou des faiblesses au niveau du bras, de la jambe ou de l’épaule gauche. Ce n’est évidemment pas une décision que je prends à la légère. L’objectif est de retirer la tumeur tout en protégeant cette zone fonctionnelle. Comme pour toute chirurgie au cerveau, il y a évidemment des risques. Mais selon l’équipe médicale, c’est la meilleure solution.

<div>La chirurgie est actuellement prévue dans un délai d’environ 3 à 6 mois, suivie d’une convalescence d’environ 3 mois… si tout va bien. Cela signifie que pendant plusieurs mois, je serai dans l’incapacité de travailler et, par conséquent, sans revenu. Les paiements, eux, continuent.

<div><strong>Et comme si ce n’était pas assez…</strong>

<div>C’est là que la situation devient particulièrement stressante pour moi et ma famille.

<div>Depuis environ quatre ans, je vis également avec la colite ulcéreuse, une maladie inflammatoire de l’intestin qui est malheureusement présentement en crise. Je suis actuellement sous cortisone pour tenter de contrôler la situation et je commencerai des perfusions intraveineuses dans les prochaines semaines. En raison de cette condition, j’ai été refusée par toutes les institutions auprès desquelles j’ai tenté d’obtenir une assurance maladie ou invalidité. J’ai finalement réussi à obtenir une assurance vie, avec une surprime, mais aucune protection pour une situation comme celle que je vis aujourd’hui.

Et honnêtement, c’est probablement ce qui me fait le plus peur en ce moment.

Un stress financier supplémentaire dont nous nous serions franchement passés dans ce gros nuage noir.

Lynden's Fight Against Leukemia

<div>Hi, my name is Mary but most call me Red. I am a pinup model, makeup artist, wig attendant, friend, daughter, sister, girlfriend and so much more. Unfortunately, in 2025 at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with stage 3 tongue cancer and after surgery that removed and rebuilt 40% of my tongue and 30 rounds of radiation, I thought the fight was done, went back to work, started new creative endeavors and moved in with the love of my life.

<div>Well, unfortunately, I was wrong.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My cancer came back - this time to the floor of my mouth and my jaw. Due to its even more aggressive and fast-growing nature, my medical team was thankfully able to get me scheduled in very quickly for my massive surgeries. This time it included reconstruction of the floor of my mouth as well as jaw bone/teeth removal. There was jaw reconstruction with bone and tissue from my leg, nerve damage repair as much as possible, a skin graft, a tracheotomy, a G-tube insertion, and so much more that it took over 11 hours of surgery to complete. We are still waiting on pathology but we plan to radiate again and add some chemotherapy as well as possibly some immunotherapy. Currently, I am learning to eat, swallow, speak, walk and breathe on my own again but with such an aggressive plan comes unexpected expenses.

<div>I am very fortunate to have an amazing partner, AJ, who has been unbelievably supportive, driving me to appointments, doing just about all the chores at home, helping me physically and emotionally get through this and so much more while still working full time. He is who I want to spend the rest of my life with and as boring as it sounds, we just want to continue to live in our townhome rental together, pay our bills and eventually get married and start a family someday. But with cancer treatment, you have to treat someday as today with protective measures like egg freezing to keep fertility options open. But because of my extensive surgeries, finding a facility that will perform the egg freezing and retrieval is getting harder and harder and although we're exploring other options, we may have to pay for it all on our own.

<div>At just 28 years old, Noïa Chalom has been diagnosed with <strong>Diffuse Midline Glioma (H3 K27-altered)</strong> — a rare and aggressive, difficult-to-treat <strong>Grade 4 </strong>brain tumour located in the pons, one of the most critical and delicate areas of the brain.

<div>Noïa is a fighter through and through. She courageously battled an eating disorder for a decade and made a complete, profound recovery. She has also been managing Type 1 diabetes for the past 20 years. Two years ago, she lost her mother to breast cancer, and not a day has gone by that she hasn't missed her. Now, she is facing her own cancer diagnosis without the person she needs most.

<div><strong>The Immediate Battle: Clinical Trials Abroad</strong>
</div>
<div>Noïa is currently undergoing six weeks of radiation, an important part of her current treatment. However, there is unfortunately no established curative treatment for this disease. Her real hope lies in emerging <strong>international treatments</strong>. While clinical trials exist locally, Noïa does not qualify for the one available in Montreal, and her best shot is CAR T-cell therapy, available only outside of Canada.

<div>While long-term international care can reach over <strong>$1,000,000</strong>, eligibility windows are narrow and require immediate financial liquidity. Eligibility can depend on strict medical criteria, extensive testing, timing, and availability, as well as visas and international insurance.

<div>To ensure Noïa never has to turn down an open clinical trial seat due to cost, we have set an initial Phase 1 target of <strong>$110,000</strong> to help fund her enrollment in clinical trials, the diagnostic testing required to qualify, and the travel and logistics of receiving treatment internationally.

Help Noïa Beat Grade 4 Brain Cancer

<div>Hi! I’m Taylor and if you know my sister Kirsten, you know that she is the kind of person who is always there for others. As a Registered Nurse, she has spent years caring for people, helping them through some of the hardest moments of their lives. Now, it’s our turn to be there for her.

<div>Recently, Kirsten went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain and a fever. What she thought might be something temporary turned into devastating news at only 36 years old: she was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma, an extremely rare and very aggressive form of cancer.
</div>

<div>Kirsten is an incredible mother to her four-year-old son, Crew, and her two-year-old daughter, Frankie. She is also a loving wife to her husband, Daylan. Kirsten and Daylan are both incredibly loved and well-known members of our community, and now their family is facing a journey that no one should ever have to go through.

<div>On September 21, Kirsten will undergo an extremely long and intense surgery to remove multiple tumors. The surgery will involve the removal of her uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, gallbladder, spleen, part of her liver, stomach, and rectum. During the surgery, her doctors will also perform HIPEC (heated chemotherapy), circulating heated chemotherapy throughout her abdomen in an effort to destroy any microscopic cancer cells that may remain.

<div>This will be a major surgery and an incredibly difficult recovery. Kirsten is expected to spend a minimum of two weeks in the hospital in Edmonton, followed by at least eight weeks of recovery at home. During this time, she will be unable to work, and while Daylan will take a short leave from work to be there for his family, he will eventually have to return to work.
</div>

<div>Along with the emotional and physical challenges of this fight comes an overwhelming financial burden. There will be countless expenses along the way—gas and travel to Edmonton, parking, groceries, household bills, everyday living expenses, and the many unexpected costs that come with a long-term cancer battle.

 Our son River has been fighting since the day he was born. Now, we’re asking for a little help to give him every opportunity to keep moving forward.

 I went into spontaneous labour, and River was born at just 25 weeks. He spent 128 days in the NICU, fighting through so much before he was finally able to come home with us.
</div>

 Today, River’s corrected age is 2 years old. He is an adorable, happy little boy and we adore him. But, because of how premature he was at birth, he has faced a number of challenges throughout his life so far.

 River has Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL), a type of brain injury that has affected his movement, learning, speech and vision.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 He also has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which affects his strength in all four of his limbs, his trunk and his face, causing significant muscle tightness and stiffness.
</div>

</div>
<div>
 River also has dysphagia, which makes swallowing difficult, so he is primarily fed through a G-tube.
</div>

</div>
<div>
 At only two years old, River already has a very busy schedule. He needs regular physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy. These therapies help him build strength, movement, communication, and safe eating strategies to become as independent as possible.
</div>

 His recommended therapy can include:

This treatment administers natural stem cells to travel to damaged areas of the body, lower inflammation, and potentially transform damaged cells into replacement cells to help repair injuries. Many children like River have had amazing outcomes after receiving this therapy.

Elle a dû être transférée à Montréal en avion-ambulance, placée dans un coma artificiel et subir des traitements intensifs dont la dialyse afin de préserver ses reins

 L'infection a provoqué une importante cascade de coagulation. De petits caillots se sont formés dans ses extrémités, empêchant le sang de circuler normalement dans ses doigts, ses orteils, son nez et ses lèvres. Malgré tous les traitements entrepris par l'équipe médicale, les dommages causés par le manque de circulation sont malheureusement importants.

 In a matter of minutes, Nicole and Rob’s lives changed completely.

 Last week, their son Caleb was taken to the hospital with pain in the lower right side of his stomach and a fever. After an ultrasound, doctors discovered a 17 cm Wilms tumour on his right kidney. The tumour had grown so large that it was pushing against his other organs.
</div>

</div>
<div>
 Caleb was transferred to McMaster Children’s Hospital, where he underwent a very long and difficult surgery. His surgeon worked on him all day. They removed his right kidney along with the tumour, which weighed an unbelievable 1.3 kg and had grown into his diaphragm. Part of Caleb’s diaphragm also had to be cut and repaired during surgery, and the surgeon removed five additional tumours.

 Our brave little guy now has a long road of healing ahead of him. ❤️ He will be unable to eat while his body begins recovering from this major surgery and will need to remain on an IV. Once he has recovered enough, Caleb will begin months of chemotherapy twice a week.

 Through all of this, Nicole and Rob’s only concern is being beside their son and giving him all the love, strength and support he needs. Unfortunately, that means a tremendous amount of time away from work, travelling back and forth to the hospital, parking, meals and many other expenses that will add up over the months ahead.

HELP JACE GET THE CARE HE NEEDS

 Sweet Levi’s heart journey began before he was even born. During one of the routine pregnancy scans, doctors discovered he had a congenital heart defect called coarctation of the aorta.

 Levi’s parents, Jaeleon and Hunter, have been by his side every step of the way, advocating for him and supporting him through each procedure and hospital stay.
</div>

<div>
 When Levi was born in Saskatoon, he was transported by air ambulance to Edmonton, where he underwent open-heart surgery at just five days old. Doctors repaired the narrowing in his aorta as well as two holes in his heart.
</div>

 Now four months old, Levi continues to face a difficult and uncertain journey. His heart remains very weak, and after discovering that the narrowing in his aortic arch had returned, he was once again transported by air ambulance to Edmonton for another heart procedure.

 While there has been some improvement, Levi is now facing additional concerns with his heart valve and may require another procedure or surgery. His parents remain in Edmonton with him while doctors closely monitor his heart and determine what comes next.

 Levi will continue to require ongoing cardiac care and follow-up appointments, including travel to Saskatoon and possibly Edmonton. We are hoping to help ease some of the financial strain of missed work, travel, accommodations and other expenses so his parents can focus on what matters most: being together and being there for Levi.

 But as we started looking at the costs coming our way over the next several months, we realized we should probably get a little more comfortable accepting help. We've already had people close to us ask what they can do, and we know there may be others who would like to help too, even if it's something small.

 For those who don't know Sarah personally, she is genuinely one of the most caring and thoughtful people you could meet. She's incredibly driven, an amazing mom to two young girls, and the kind of person who would do pretty much anything for the people she loves.
</div>

 Sarah has dedicated her life to helping others. As a holistic nutritionist, personal trainer and yoga instructor, she has dedicated her career to helping people feel better, get healthier and find movement in their lives. She's an amazing yogi herself and has been a source of strength, support and inspiration to so many people around her.
</div>

 Although she's not always in the spotlight, Sarah has also dedicated so much of herself to building Culture Athletics and the community around it. Over the years, Sarah and I have sacrificed countless evenings, weekends and time with our family to create spaces, events and experiences that bring people together through running and fitness. What started as a small running store has grown into a community that has reached and connected so many people across Toronto and Canada, and Sarah has been an enormous part of making that possible.

 More than anything, Sarah is an incredible mom. She incorporates our girls into her life more than almost anyone you could meet and is such a loving, giving and fun parent. Since her diagnosis, one of her biggest priorities has been making sure their lives stay as normal and happy as possible.

 That says a lot about how Sarah has handled all of this. Even while processing everything herself, so much of her concern has been for the people around her. When she learned there was a genetic component to her cancer, one of her first concerns was what it could potentially mean for our daughters someday, rather than what it meant for her.

 She's taken everything in stride, done her best to stay positive and is already talking about how, once she's through this, she wants to find ways to help other people going through cancer.
</div>

 If you know Sarah, you know she's the kind of person who would do anything to help those around her. She's spent so much of her life taking care of other people.
</div>

 Now it's our chance to help take care of her.

 The financial impact of Sarah's diagnosis goes beyond the approximately $12,000 cost of Perjeta. Over the coming months, both Sarah and I will need to step away from work at different times for treatments, appointments, surgery and recovery, while also doing everything we can to be there for our two young daughters and keep life as normal as possible. This does not include other potential treatments that aren't covered by OHIP as well.

 This comes at a particularly challenging time. Sarah's diagnosis came as we were working to open the second Culture Athletics location, something we've spent years working toward. Running a small business doesn't leave a lot of room for life to stop, and the months ahead will require both of us to shift our attention away from the business and toward Sarah's health and our family.

 Money raised through this page will first help cover the approximately $12,000 cost of Perjeta and other treatment-related expenses. Beyond that, it will help with the many additional costs that come along with treatment and recovery, including medications, childcare, transportation and parking for appointments, supportive therapies, reduced time at work, and the unexpected expenses that will inevitably come up along the way.

 Ultimately the goal is to give Sarah some breathing room. To allow her to put her energy into treatment and recovery, and be supported in getting through the months ahead.

 Sarah and I have spent much of the last decade trying to build community and create spaces that bring people together. Since Sarah's diagnosis, the people we've shared the news with have already shown up for our family in ways we never could have anticipated.

Caring for the Brown Family

<div>Hello our names are Denine and Trevor and we the next door neighbours and friends of Ashtyn, Tara and family. I am writing this GoFundMe page to help the family with current and future expenses as Ashtyn was in a single vehicle accident that has him fighting for his life as his mom and nana take the time off to be beside him during this uncertain, highly emotional, difficult time.

<div>Ashtyn is the amazing father of Tahlia, a beautiful, active, do it myself little girl that loves the outdoors and is wondering where her daddy is. Ashtyn’s girlfriend Jordyn, who also has had to take time off to deal with and understand the why and how of this life altering accident while trying to navigate what Ashtyn, herself and her daughter’s future will look like. Ashtyn’s younger brother Caleb and little sister Kira are currently home from school during this uncertainty of whether or not their older brother will ever be able to come home again. Tara is a single mother raising her three children, daughter in law and granddaughter while working as a waitress at the White Otter Inn. She apologizes to her regulars while hoping they will understand her absence from work is necessary as she needs to be by her son’s bedside.

<div>In the early hours of September 2nd, 2026, Ashtyn was in a single vehicle accident. He was ejected from his truck and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was brought to Riverside Fort Frances Hospital then airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center where he was immediately assessed for surgery due to his multiple injuries. Doctors are keeping him stable at the moment as he suffered a break on his high spine near the nape of his neck, his left arm from shoulder to wrist will need multiple surgeries starting with shoulder repairs, the neuro surgeon feels Ashtyn will need an external shunt to help drain his brain bleed which has just stopped but has now filled the area where brain fluid should be. This is why at the moment brain surgery is not recommended. Ashtyn’s future is unknown as he fights every hour to stay strong enough to be able to have surgery. If he makes it through surgery he will still have a long road to recovery.

It will go towards paying lost wages for house bills, lodging and travel as the hospital Ashtyn is staying at is 2 hours away from home and now the family has no vehicle to make trips back and forth, relying on Tara’s mom and dad. It will go to assist with groceries and all the needed items for Tahlia. Ashtyn will have many months of rehab where special aides will be needed. When Ashtyn makes it out of the hospital the house will need to have accommodations done to it along with any long-term mobility aides he may need.

<div>They are trying to lessen his fentanyl and sedation, so they can start trying to get him tolerating the lessened pain meds and so far he is not tolerating it to the degree they want. They were hoping he would be making a bit more positive progress by now, but they upped his stuff again and will keep trying to ween them. Once his meds are lowered he becomes increasingly agitated and starts to try move his legs and wants to basically crawl out of bed. But because of his neck injury he needs to remain calm and sedated. So everyday they will do the ween and try and wake him up and get things going. But again. He is not tolerating it to how the doctors would like him to be. Which is okay. He is still healing and fighting

<div>Ava was born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome, a complex congenital heart condition that has meant a very different journey for our little girl.

<div>At just 9 months old, Ava has undergone two heart surgeries at SickKids, and she is expected to require another heart surgery at approximately three years old.

<div>Through it all, Ava has continued to amaze us with her strength, personality, and resilience.

<div>But this summer, our family was faced with another unexpected challenge.

<div>At the end of July, Ava suffered a stroke.

<div>The stroke caused her to lose most of the motor function on the right side of her body. In an instant, things that many of us take for granted have became challenges that Ava will need to work incredibly hard on, to overcome.

<div>Ava is currently at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, where she is working through an intensive rehabilitation journey to regain strength, movement, and independence.

<div>Ava’s medical journey has brought significant emotional, physical, and financial challenges to our family.

<div>Between her ongoing cardiac care, future surgery, rehabilitation, medical appointments, equipment, travel, and the unexpected expenses that come with caring for a child with complex medical needs, the road ahead is going to be a long one.
