<div>Our friend, Gary, was recently diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor known as a Stage 2 Astrocytoma. Until now, Gary was a healthy and vibrant 39-year-old, full of life and energy.

<div>Gary began experiencing strange neurological symptoms (now thought to be mini seizures) over the course of the past several months. Despite all prior medical work up looking benign, Gary's wife, Kate, pushed for imaging of his head.  One CT scan later their lives were forever changed. 
</div>

<div>The CT scan showed a very large mass in Gary's left temporal lobe. His doctor told him to drop everything immediately and head to Johns Hopkins Hospital. On February 12th, Gary underwent an intensive 7-hour awake brain surgery (craniotomy) at Johns Hopkins to remove the tumor. Fortunately, the surgeon could extract most, if not all, of the mass. In true Gary fashion, he handled the whole thing like a rockstar and remembers much of the surgery. Unfortunately, on February 19th he suffered a major seizure which required an emergency transport back to Hopkins for an additional 3-day stay.

<div>Gary is a talented carpenter by trade and would love nothing more than to get back to work and return to some normalcy. He has been a loving husband to Kate for almost 16 years and a proud father to Jack (14), Quinn (12), Thomas (9), and Grace (7). He is the cornerstone of his family and one of the most positive, happy, and hilarious humans we know. He would do anything for anybody, and he is a truly wonderful friend.

<div>Gary has a tough road ahead. There is still a lot of uncertainty with his treatment plan as he awaits his first oncology appointment. At this time we are still unsure of what his future holds as far as his ability to work and provide for his family.  We are determined to help him fight this battle.
