My family and I fell victim to a rental scam on Wednesday, March 25th. After paying the deposit along with pro-rated rent on Monday, March 23rd, we began to settle in. My wife and I were ecstatic to see how happy the kids were and how much serenity we felt in our new home. I even contacted AT&T to set up the Wi-Fi the following morning, and they delivered the package along with pre-installation. The morning of the 25th, as I was putting my youngest to sleep, the bell rang. I didn’t expect it to be someone working for the property. He told me that this home was still on the market and we were scammed into the process of this rental. Management had no idea we were even staying in the home. We were told we had to pack everything after already unpacking. I have never felt more devastated, especially seeing how this affected my children. We’re currently at an Extended Stay hotel, trying to figure out our next steps. The police told us it’s highly unlikely that a refund will be issued since they have no lead on who’s behind this. I’m hoping to raise enough to help us secure a new home and get back on our feet. Your support would mean the world to us during this difficult time. All the gratitude to all who support— it means everything to be heard. I can only hope for no one else or families to fall victim to this act. Thank you for reading and for any help you can offer.
