<div>In a simple, at-home version of Young’s experiment (single slit), I built a slit with copper on one side and stainless steel on the other. The result was a visibly asymmetric diffraction image—existence-level evidence that something happens inside the slit, consistent with Einstein’s view that light interacts with the slit’s edge atoms.

<div>In Young's double slit experiment, Einstein's theory is that light passing through slits interacts with the atoms at the edges of the slits, much like a football player running through a gauntlet. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I tested the theory at my home. Despite the rejections of my findings by several academic journals, recent news from MIT, which disproves Einstein, motivated me to publish my work, as my experiment supports Einstein's theory.

<div>My idea is to construct a slit with different materials on one side from the other, and expect that they would interact with passing photons differently and produce an asymmetric image, much like a gauntlet with different settings on one side compared to the other would bump and push the passing players differently from each side.

<div>For over 200 years, slits used in these experiments have been made from the same material, resulting in symmetrical images that have led physicists to overlook the contributions of the slits themselves. I decided to challenge this norm by using a slit with copper foil on one side and stainless steel foil on the other. When I shone a laser through this slit, the resulting image was visually asymmetrical, making this finding new.

<div>Moreover, flipping or turning over the same slit relative to the laser also reverses the asymmetry of the resulting image, further confirming that copper and steel contribute differently—a surprising and meaningful result that suggests the material of the slit edges physically matters. To my knowledge, no other experiments have used slits made from different materials, making this finding unique.

<div>My goal now is to share this discovery with a broader audience. I have documented my results with photos and videos, some of which are available on my YouTube channel; however, outreach is challenging as an unaffiliated researcher. I hope to use funds to create a professional website, produce high-quality videos, and possibly collaborate with a professional lab for further measurements. Outreach efforts, including buying ads and connecting with science organizations, will help bring attention to this experiment and encourage others to explore the overlooked details of classic physics.
