Power With Purpose

I never imagined I’d be in a position where I needed to ask for help, but after Hurricane Ida, life has been a whirlwind. As a single mom of two little boys, I’ve spent the last five years doing everything I can to keep us afloat. In 2023, we went through the Justice Center Women Against Domestic Violence shelter, and in 2025, we ended up in the New Orleans Women and Children’s Shelter. I’ve reached out to every kind of housing authority, Catholic Charity, churches, and ESG funds, but resources are exhausted and rent is due by the 15th. Despite all my efforts, our rental termination date came up too soon, and I wasn’t prepared for it. The uncertainty and stress have been overwhelming, but I’m determined to find stability for my family. Getting back to work has been a huge challenge. I recently landed a job I was excited about, but with my boys out for the summer, every paycheck goes straight to babysitting. It’s hard to move forward when childcare costs make it nearly impossible to get ahead. I don’t have anyone to help watch my kids, and it feels like every step forward comes with new obstacles. Still, I’m doing everything I can to provide for my boys and give them a safe, stable home. There have been moments when I wanted to give up, but I keep moving forward and never look back. I am tenacious and genuine, and I believe in brighter days ahead. Anything helps. I’m not the type to ask for help, but now I’m reaching out to other souls who might share or support our journey. I believe no one should be left behind in the digital world. My inspiration comes from my mom, who is 76 and often gets frustrated with technology—even something as simple as saving a contact can be overwhelming. I see this struggle in many seniors, and I want to change that. That’s why I’m starting Golden Digital Days, a class for 5 to 10 seniors at a time, where we’ll start from scratch. Each participant will receive a free phone, and together we’ll learn everything from creating passwords to saving numbers, making Gmail accounts, and connecting with family members they may not get to see. Projectors will make it easier for everyone to follow along, and tablets will help me share my screen with the group. We’ll need chairs, tables, and pens so everyone is comfortable and can take notes on what they’ve accomplished. Your support will help us provide these essentials and create a welcoming space for seniors to learn, grow, and stay connected.
