<div>Hello, my name is Meghan and I am grateful you are reading my nephew’s story. Early last week my sweet nephew Samuel Binsted had some unexplained bruising. Then more, and even more showed up. Then he began getting red dots on his arms, then legs.

<div>My best friends Tiffany and Justin spiraled down the google rabbit hole. But that’s always the WORST case, and this can’t be the worst case. It could be so many other things. But they trusted their guts and took Sam to Northumberland Hills Hospitals emergency department on Sunday, May 26th.

<div>They did tests, waited, more tests, more waiting. Then the Dr. came in and closed the curtains with tears in their eyes. A parent’s worst nightmare, and they knew.

<div>I got the text, "Sam has cancer," the air left my lungs and my stomach turned. Not sweet Sam, it's not possible. The silliest guy, so full of life and confidence. Who is determined, smart, mischievous, and who keeps us all on our toes… It still doesn't feel real.

<div>They were rushed by ambulance to Sick Kid’s, and this is where they start their fight.

<div>I have known the Binsteds for over half my life, they are the kindest people who drop everything for their loved ones, who are constantly supporting their community, local businesses and uplifting the voices of others in need in their community and globally. Now it's our turn to do the same for them.

<div>The Binsteds need our support to fight this and to ease the financial burden this brings. All funds will go directly to the family to cover the costs of travel to and from Toronto, (an hour and a half <em>one</em> way from their home in Bewdley), time off of work for Justin, (they are a single income family), meals, treatment costs and accommodations to keep the family together while Sam fights this.

<div>We were hoping Gary would be picked as one of the campers that would be allowed to go to camp for free (since he's been waiting for 2 years now), but unfortunately he wasn't picked for this year either. We inquired to see if there was still availability for someone if they paid to go to camp, and they said yes, but limited. "Sometimes superheroes reside in the hearts of small children fighting big battles."<br /><br />Melanie and Phil Maguire's youngest daughter, superhero Finley Maguire (19mo), is fighting a big battle. She was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and is undergoing surgery and further medical treatment. Mel has been part of our anesthesia team for many years and has selflessly and diligently cared for each and every one of her patients. In addition to being strong for Finley, Phil and Mel are wearing their bravest faces for their two other daughters and splitting their time between home and the hospital. It is our turn to help care for one of our own during this unfathomable time.

<strong><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/50911920_1599067420320977_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="50911920_1599067420320977_r.jpeg" /></strong><br /><br />Anthony (Pookie) was admitted to Smilow Hospital in New Haven, CT on Saturday August 22nd, 2020. On the 23rd, the doctors were able to diagnose Anthony with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. For those of you unfamiliar, AML is a type of blood cancer. It starts in your bone marrow, the soft inner parts of bones. AML usually begins in cells that turn into white blood cells, but it can start in other blood-forming cells, as well. <br />Because acute myeloid leukemia moves quickly, it’s important to begin treatment right away.  Anthony has a fighting chance due to early detection and his good overall health. <br />Currently, with visitation restrictions allowing only immediate family, Pookie’s beloved wife Dila and daughter, Lexi, have both had the opportunity to see him. Although his appetite has been curbed, Anthony is still eating, thankfully. Exercising also, both Dila and Lexi were able to get Anthony to do a couple laps around the ward which is excellent for chemo patients. <br />Now for the not so fun stuff. Anthony’s blood Hct/Hgb dropped therefore the doctors are looking at a blood transfusion. Also possible down the road is that Anthony may need a bone marrow transplant, which is sometimes called a stem cell transplant. A bone marrow transplant is a procedure that infuses healthy blood-forming stem cells into your body to replace your damaged or diseased bone marrow. Goals of a bone marrow transplant depend on your individual situation, but usually include controlling or curing your disease, extending your life, and improving your quality of life.<br /><br />GOAL: We would like to help raise money for Pookie’s procedures and treatments which will be quite expensive for the family.  In this way we can alleviate some of the burden and stress on the Fonda’s.<br /><br />While all of this sounds super scary the doctors, Pookie, Dila and the family remain positive. Dila tells us that Pookie is feeling the love and support from everyone. Let’s  continue with positivity for Pookie and his family. Anthony’s (Pookie’s ) Road to Recovery from AML

Piotruś urodził się 10 maja 2013 roku. <br />Tak bardzo chciał poznać swoich rodziców - Ewelinę i Adriana - że urodził się w 29 tygodniu ciąży. <br />Niestety urodził się z wrodzonym niedowładem kończyn dolnych i hipertonią, która powoduje nadmierne napięcie mięśni i uniemożliwia chodzenie.<br />Piotruś przeszedł intensywne leczenie oraz cały czas jest poddawany intensywnej rehabilitacji.<br />Pod względem intelektualnym Piotruś rozwija się jak normalne 5-letnie dziecko, które marzy o tym, aby pobiegać z kolegami na boisku i zagrać z nimi "w nogę". <br /><br />Na chwilę obecną polscy lekarze nie są w stanie pomóc Piotrusiowi aby stanął na nogi.<br /><br />Jest jednak jedna jedyna szansa!!!!<br /><br />Już został zakwalifikowany do operacji przez Paley Institute i należy do tych szczęśliwców że nie musi lecieć do USA na operację !!!<br />Profesor David Feldman z Floridy będzie w Polsce i w asyście dr.Michała Deszczyńskiego chce przeprowadzić operację Piotrusia na miejscu w Warszawie ❤ ❤<br />Koszt operacji to 200 000 zł ($53.000) kwota nieosiągalna dla rodziców ❤ ❤<br /><br />Pomóżmy mu stanąć na nogi i sprawmy aby jego marzenie się spełniło!!!!<br /><br />Dziękujemy serdecznie za wsparcie ♡♡♡<br />————————————————————<br />Pete was born on May 10th, 2013. He came to this world prematurely at the 29th week of pregnancy with congenital paresis of the lower extremities and hypertonia which causes excessive tension of the muscle and prevents him from walking.<br /><br />He's been through extensive treatment and rehabilitation.  Without an expensive surgery at Paley Institute in Warsaw he will be doomed to further disability.
