<div>I’m 41 years old, still feeling young at heart, married, and a proud mom of 4 beautiful children—ages 22, 17, 7, and 4. I was born and raised in El Paso, TX, and right now, I’m fighting one of the toughest battles of my life.

<div>I have stage 4 pleomorphic liposarcoma, a very rare and aggressive cancer. I’ve been receiving chemotherapy, which thankfully has helped with some of the tumors in my body. However, the tumor on my left shoulder has continued to grow, and chemo is no longer helping it. Because of this, my oncologist at MD Anderson in Houston has decided to stop chemo and begin radiation treatment directly on my shoulder.

<div>This means I will need to stay in Houston for 3 weeks to receive radiation Monday through Friday, resting on weekends. After this treatment, I’ll return home to recover for 4–6 weeks, and then I’ll need to go back to Houston for surgery to remove the tumor. A plastic surgeon will also work with my team to help reconstruct the area where the tumor is removed.

<div>I am reaching out for help to cover the costs of lodging, food, and transportation while I’m away from home. If I am not able to stay at the Hope Lodge, I will need to pay for a hotel. Some hotels do not provide shuttle service, so I may also need to pay for Uber rides back and forth to MD Anderson for my appointments.

Sin embargo, el tumor que tengo en el hombro izquierdo ha seguido creciendo y la quimioterapia ya no lo está controlando. Por esta razón, mi oncólogo en MD Anderson en Houston ha decidido detener la quimioterapia y comenzar radiación directamente en mi hombro.

<div>Esto significa que tendré que permanecer en Houston por 3 semanas para recibir radiación de lunes a viernes, descansando los fines de semana. Después de este tratamiento, regresaré a casa a recuperarme de 4 a 6 semanas, y luego tendré que volver a Houston para una cirugía para remover el tumor. Un cirujano plástico también trabajará con mi equipo médico para reconstruir el área donde se removerá el tumor.
