My name is Alisha, and I'm an only child fighting for my mother, Carla. She was a wonderful mom, always full of spirit, humor, and kindness. After suffering from severe kidney stones, she became dependent on pain pills. Then, she lost her job of 20 years, which led to a mental breakdown. Since then, Carla has lost touch with everyone who cared about her, simply because they didn't know how to help. Now, I have power of attorney over her, and I'm determined to get her the help she needs. Carla is also an animal lover. She used to do animal rescues and volunteered at animal shelters all around the Upstate. Helping animals brought her so much joy, but lately, she doesn't even have the spirit to do that anymore. It's heartbreaking to see her lose the passion that once gave her purpose. Carla's SSI doesn't cover the cost of a facility in Florida that specializes in addiction and mental health recovery. If she doesn't get help immediately, she could be homeless, in jail, or worse. I know she still has so much to offer the world—she's funny, smart, and has a great spirit. But she needs a chance to heal, away from everything that's hurt her. To those considering helping, Carla is the only mother and family I have left. Everyone else has given up, but I haven't. With your support, I hope to give her the chance to heal, so we can be a family again and maybe even celebrate my birthday together or have her cook Thanksgiving for the first time in over 10 years. I miss her so much, and your help could bring her back to us.
