<div>It is our child’s birthday today. This day was meant to be spent with the love of their life, celebrating as we do in our young 20s. Kasper had a plan to propose soon, so they could make it official and start their own Happily Ever After - together.

<div>Juju was her name. There can’t be a proposal or any of the rest of the plans they had together anymore. She’s gone. Wednesday night, Juju was murdered because a few friends walked by the wrong person and were attacked. Juju got chased down by a habitual violent criminal with a knife, and killed for being on a walking trail in Portland, Maine at around 9:30 in the evening. Her friend Liz was a hero and did her best to pry the attacker away. She was able to get him to run away, but not before enough damage was done. She did what she could, called 911, and sat with Juju until the ambulance came.

<div>Juju was a bright light. Juju was a gentle and lively soul. It’s cliche to say someone lit up a room, but if you knew her - that’s exactly how it was. This was a kind, compassionate, vibrant, spirited person with a whole life ahead of her. Her mother has lost a child. She is devastated. We all are. Very little in life is “fair”. That’s easy enough to accept. But even less in life should be so cruel. This young couple had plans for tonight, for next month, for next year, and it’s all just…over. If you’ve ever gone through this, you know there’s no way to prepare for it or to accept it. The finality doesn’t come easily. But that is what we are all left with from this one senseless act.

<div>Those of us who are left are tasked with carrying on. We are so proud of Kasper's strength, because that will happen. He and Juju’s mom, Wendy, are doing their best to be a comfort for each other. Kasper is going to try to go to the places they planned to go together, even though Juju is gone. For now, reality is a little harder and, unfortunately, expensive. These are young people in a shared apartment with several part time jobs who were doing fine holding it all together. An event like this makes it a house of cards. Kasper has to move out of an apartment and a city that has become filled with painful reminders. He is leaving two jobs with two sets of co-workers he likes being around. There’s just no way to try to carry on when everything around you brings pain instead of peace.

<div>We write all this to ask if you can find it in your heart to help us help them all. After a tragic event like this, nobody deserves to get a bill. Among everything else, we want Kasper to be able to move to a new city in the comfort of friends who have invited him to do so. This means breaking a lease that started in June, packing and moving everything to a new home, finding new work, and starting again. We are helping as much as we can, as any parent would - it’s just all very immediate and costly. We want Juju’s mom not to have to worry about any unplanned expenses.

<div>At 1:40PM on Sunday the 25th, my sister, Chloe/Charlie Borders was involved in a car crash in West Sacramento. We have been told that the driver who hit her was a DUI and is in custody. Chloe did not survive.

<div>I got home from work on Sunday and got a call from her husband, Ben around 5:30. He told me that Chloe was supposed to be at a photoshoot for her counseling agency that had ended at 4, but that he hadn’t heard from her since around 1:35 and was really worried.

<div>I went to be with Ben and the two of us worried together for an hour and a half or so while I called all the local emergency rooms, police, and CHP. They all said they had no records of any incidents with Chloe or cars fitting the description.

<div>Around 8:30, through the suggestion of an investigator, Ben figured out how to track Chloe’s phone and we found that it was at the West Sacramento police department.

Obviously, this will radically change her life onward and will require significant changes in her day-to-day routine with herself and her household.

Soon after he sought emergency surgery to remove a tumor obstructing his colon and spent the following six months in chemotherapy, missing tours with Trey Anastasio Band and other scheduled performances. Upon completing treatments, new scans showed the cancer had progressed to stage 4.

<div>We took some X-rays and it turned out to be true, Mino had eaten something stupid (again science lingo here, sorry). The next step was immediate and emergency surgery. We rushed our little guy over to the referral vet a town over and they got him in right away yesterday afternoon.

<div>At 9pm, I got the call, his surgery went great and they expect a quick recovery with no complications since we caught it so early! He even got to come home today, a day later.

<div>Of course this is the scariest part, after the procedure itself, the bill! My partner and I were prepared for a steep number but it took us by a bit more surprise than we expected. Because of taxes, the month of April is already the trickiest time of year for a self-employed artist like myself. To add insult to injury; my car decided to have a bad day too, right before picking up Mino! One of my tires went flat and is completely in need or replacement due to its condition.

Vet Bills for Mino!

<div>My wife, son, and I are in a rough place right now. We are asking for $5,006 to avoid foreclosure on our home and repossession on our car. The details of how we got here, how we’re changing things, and what this money goes towards follows.

<div>A year and a half ago, we bought our first home. Our first (and only) child was only 3 months old. Things were going great. We both had relatively decent jobs, we had a great kid, and the future was looking bright.

<div>But life has its way of making things… interesting, to say the least. Stress and depression, as many people often face, got the better of us. The combination of some poor financial decisions (like getting a lot of takeout food), the hospitalization of our son last Halloween, and his subsequent medication dug us a decent hole.

</div>
<div>Soon after that, several ‘small’ financial emergencies piled up on us, inflation hit us hard, and the small hole we thought we were in got much bigger. We got behind on one bill, and then several. Now, we’re in danger of both foreclosure on our home and repossession on our car.

<div>But we are already making changes for the better. Since the big problems started, my wife and I are both doing therapy and medication for our mental health, and our son is thriving on his anti-seizure medication. We are making better financial choices, including a commitment to entirely cooking at home, getting financial counseling, starting to save regularly, and doing check-ins on our finances together every week.

<div>All of that won’t mean anything unless we can get out of this hole to turn things around, and we would be forever grateful if you could help us get there.

<div>If you’re curious about our expenses: the house and the car payment are our two biggest expenses. The house ($685/mo.) for obvious reasons, but we live in a low-cost area and the payment will once again be affordable to us once we get out of this debt hole. Unfortunately, the car payment ($645/mo.) is almost as expensive as the house payment for reasons out of our control. We own the basic model of a little red hatchback. But my previous car had its engine blow up twice in 10 months. I had to roll in the previous balance on the old car loan into the new one. I owed $9,000 more than the car was worth after its engine encountered complete mechanical failure, and of course it wasn’t even working. The ratio is still high, and I’m only halfway through the loan.

<div>For more detail on what we’re planning on doing to prevent us from getting to this point ever again, we made a more detailed list:

<div>1. Get professional financial counseling, which a friend has already offered to pay for in full. We have a good budget set up now, but we need to know if there’s anything else we need to be doing (like consolidating old credit card debt or applying for any specific programs).

<div>2. Eliminate fast food until we fully get back on our feet, but even make it a consistent habit after that. Seems obvious, but it’s likely the biggest reason we were overspending besides the car and other small emergencies. But how will we prevent this? By doing #3 and #4:

<div>3. Meal prepping and buying more inexpensive ready-to-eat or easy-to-cook meal options.
</div>

<div>4. Get some groceries from food pantries until we’re caught back up.

<div>5. Reduce our overall credit card usage, only using them for either emergency expenses or for things we would pay for immediately.

<div>6. Set up a new joint account to have bills automatic be paid from. Can’t spend money from the pile that’s meant for other things.

<div>7. Save money from each “extra” paycheck and pay existing down credit card debt. We budgeted on a four-paychecks-per-month system (we are paid weekly). Some months will have a 5th paycheck. Half of that money is going to paying down credit card debt and the rest will go directly into savings.

Help us keep our car and house

<div>I know many of you have been in the dark until now about what happened during the closing weekend at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire. I'm going to keep this as short as I can, because if I didn't, I could talk for hours about her strength and soul.

<div>Unfortunately, Michelle Kleber, the beloved Lady Ellory, suffered a cardiac arrest incident that Saturday morning before her first joust of the day on Saturday. Three people trained in CPR in the immediate area took immediate action, and despite all odds, she was brought back to us and taken by ambulance to an awaiting helicopter. From there, she was life flighted from Windham Hospital to Hartford Hospital. It is my displeasure to say she remains in a coma at this time. I hate to use the word "unfortunately" again, however it is an unfortunate reality that at this time, nearly three weeks later, medical bills are flooding in, as are the hotel bills for her family and fiancé Jake. Jake has been unable to return to work, as he has been with her daily to support her.
</div>

<div>We are asking for your thoughts, energy, and anything you may be able to send her way to alleviate at least a portion of what Jake and the family have to endure. She is full of strength, and as anyone who knows her will say, she is a beautiful force in this world. Any help you can muster is appreciated. <div>I'm a furry who uses a wheelchair due to a condition called Transverse Myelitis (a condition which causes inflammation in the spinal cord). My first wheelchair has seen its share of love, conventions, events, and travel, and it's hard to part with it, but it's time for an upgrade. There are many things wrong with my previous chair from years of love. This includes a cracked camber tube, bent spokes, worn in back rest, and much more. Due to this, I was given a new prescription for a brand new chair. I work with a great team that includes a neurologist, a seating clinician, and an ATP, who fit me for a customized chair that is perfectly fit to my body and lifestyle. While they do all the background work with insurance, I have to come up with my half of payment since my insurance covers only 50% for medical equipment.  (Dumb US Healthcare system.) Did you know that some wheelchairs cost as much as $45,000? There are many different types of wheelchairs, and the style I was prescribed was a manual lightweight custom chair. Being manual instead of electric, this keeps the chair in the $10,000 range. While working with my team, we decided on some new specs that will make my ride much more comfortable. While this raises the cost some, it should allow the chair to last well over 5 years. Thank you so much for the help!

New Wheelchair for Atlas!

Hello! I'm Katie, a trans woman living in Washington. When the Covid-19 epidemic started in the US, I lost my job in March of 2020. <br /><br />Out of desperation, I picked up a job at a grocery store. I was subjected to customers and employees refusing to wear a mask despite the mask mandate, as well as transphobia. When I came out of surgery, the store I worked at stopped scheduling me altogether, so I left.<br /><br />I've been staying at home and subsisting on unemployment ever since, working on my 3D work/gamedev portfolio. Today I saw that the state is demanding $7,000 in "overpayment" for my unemployment, as it has determined that I did not qualify for unemployment.<br /><br />This is more money that I've ever had, and more than I probably ever will have. I'm struggling with debt, I have no family, and I have no means of paying this off. Anything helps.

Well, today I come to you asking for some help.<br /><br />For 8 years, my father has been receiving dialysis 3 days a week for bad kidneys, however in March, he was finally able to secure a kidney transplant! Awesome right? It turns out it was only the beginning of trouble.<br /><br />Since March, my dad, Roy, has been fighting with every imaginable complication of a transplant. It started smoothly enough, but after a severe mono infection, the kidney rejected and to complicate more things, he developed lymphoma, which we have been treating as best as we are able.<br /><br />He's been in the hospital since November 30th, and due to a little spill on that day, we discovered the lymphoma has moved to his brain. Its been a pretty rough time, but he's taking it like an absolute champ. After some brain surgery to remove the bulk of it, he's started radiation, and now we just need to wafinaciallyit and see hope for the best.<br /><br />The whole situation has left quite a bit of financial strain on my mom, who works retail at a small quilt shop, though she's cut down her hours considerably to see my dad in the hospital. Help the Deeds family

While I was at work today, I received a text from my roommate who told me our apartment was broken into (door pried open) and we were robbed. I rushed home, and found out that a large number of my things were stolen, as well as some of my roommates things.<br /><br />I lost a PS4, Wii U, 3DS all of my camera equipment (D7100, two SB800s, all my lenses), most of my games (about 30 for the PS4, PS3, and 3DS, Gamecube they didn't take many Wii U games), controllers. One roommate lost a Wii U plus games and controllers, another roommate lost her laptop.<br /><br />I don't have insurance (everyone reading this should sign up for renters insurance right away), one roommates deductable is high enough that it's not worth it for her, and the other is out her deductable.<br /><br />I never ask for money, I don't like receiving help from friends, family, or strangers, but I thought that it couldn't hurt to see if anyone could help. This isn't as worthy a cause as many that I see here, so I fully understand people not wanting to donate, but I thught, it couldn't hurt.<br /><br />Thank you for your time.
