A big milestone this week: Thursday (Oct 15th) will be Tyler's sixth and final round of this phase of chemo!
Last week, our little fam of three traveled to the NIH in Maryland to meet with Dr. Rajan and a team that specializes in thymic cancer. We went to get their perspective on Tyler's response to treatment so far, talk through what comes next, and explore clinical trial options. It was a very encouraging conversation... they were pleased with his progress, and we left with a clearer understanding of the options ahead and a team to help us navigate them.
After chemo on Thursday, Tyler will transition to “maintenance” treatment, continuing one of my current medications to help keep the cancer under control. He will still receive treatment once every 3 weeks, but hopefully with fewer of the nasty chemo-related side effects. It’ll be nice to give his body a break. We’ll also keep pursuing clinical trial opportunities and working with his doctors on the next steps… We’ve made some really good progress, but we still have work to do.
From Tyler:
I’m sooo incredibly grateful for the good response I’ve had so far. There are definitely some nerves going into this next phase, especially stepping away from the chemo that’s helped get us here. But I’m holding onto my faith, trusting God through the uncertainty, and feeling encouraged by the options we discussed. Please keep the prayers coming for continued healing, lasting progress, and clarity for our next decisions.
And I have something really special to look forward to… the Together With Tyler golf tournament on October 22nd! I can’t wait to spend the day with so many people who have shown up for our family. Thank you to everyone who is helping to make that a special day.
One of the hardest parts has been trying to keep up with “normal” life when things still feel anything but normal. Things have gotten a little quieter over the last few weeks, but the challenges are still very much part of our everyday life. We’re taking it one day at a time, and the continued prayers, check-ins, and support from friends and family go such a long way for us.
And, from all of us: thank you for walking through this with our family.
