<div>The boys home on Altadena Drive was burned down during the devastating Eaton Canyon fire. Luckily, all the house members were safely evacuated to a hotel. But their home is gone. I can only imagine how difficult this will be for the residents. They all rely on a consistent routine to feel safe and each have specific needs. This will be a huge adjustment.

<div>My sister, who is autistic, has lived there since she was 18. She loves her home, roommates and the Robinsons. The Robinsons attended her high school graduation, help her attend an adult day program, take her to church, make BBQs, and celebrate holidays. The Robinsons help residents with aid in and out of the shower, dressing assistance, toileting, washing, hygiene and offer the convenience of a traveling barber or stylist. They eat three homemade meals a day. And they enjoy music therapy, pet therapy, field trips, and an adult day program. Even caregivers need assistance now and then.

Help Tom Rebuild After Eaton Fire

<div>The Irias/ Bice family lost their family home in Alta Dena this week to the fires burning in Los Angeles. Their home housed Kevin and Maryem, their three children, Ynez (14), Ezra (12) and Oliver (10), Maryem's elderly father and several family animals. They are currently staying with Kevin's mother and the few belongings they were able to take with them when the evacuated.

<div>The family is still in shock and the inventory of what was burned has only begun to be assessed. The family is working through the arduous journey of navigating insurance claims, finding a short-term rental, accessing FEMA funds, etc. As a community, we want to ensure that Maryem (who is self-employed) and Kevin can take some time off of work to focus on these tasks while tending to their children. We also want to ensure that any immediate gaps in disaster relief are filled so the family can create some sense of normalcy. And lastly, ensure that any longer-term mental or physical health needs can be met with resources at the ready.

It causes the pituitary gland to produce too much growth hormone and a multitude of other problems. Craig spent several months preparing for surgery and sold his beloved business to pay for medical expenses. Although recovery was difficult, the surgery was successful. Until 15 years later, when Craig’s symptoms returned. <strong>The last time Craig faced surgery, he had a partner and financial resources from the business he sold. This time he is alone and without financial assistance.</strong>

<div>Spoiler alert: He's hanging in there, but as no surprise to anyone, Michael St. Michaels is an enigma and the doctors are trying to figure out what happened so they can prevent it from happening again.

<div>Michael was admitted to the hospital on March 1, after a wellness check was called when he missed his car pickup and flight for the Cult Classic Convention in Texas. While he has enjoyed being waited on hand and foot, Michael has not enjoyed his stay at the hospital. Currently the doctors do not have a release date as they are continuing to run tests and are now talking about putting radioactive blood cells into his body?!?! Science is wild.

<div>Michael is now worried about the medical bills that will follow. He hasn't been able to work a lot, mainly trying to get to conventions in order to make ends meet which sadly aren't always lucrative. In addition, he has some HOA fees he owes on top of just normal living expenses.

<div>Around noon on Christmas Eve, Sha'Kyra called to let me know she opened her home early that morning to Joe White, my friend and North Park employee of ~40 years, after he appeared in a daze outside her door, crying out for help.

<div>His hands were brutally frostbitten, and emergency vehicles had no way of reaching her location. Without hesitation, she put aside her family's plans for Christmas and treated his sores as best she could.

Bless Sha'Kyra Rain Aughtry for Saving Joe's Life

<div>Hi, my name is Chris Dearing, and I work with the North Park Theatre in Buffalo, NY.

<div>During the December blizzard of 2022, my friend and North Park employee of ~40 years Joe White suffered severe frostbite on his hands.
</div>

</div>
<div>Joe is mentally disabled, and he did not understand the true severity of the storm.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Disoriented and crying out for help, he miraculously found himself at the doorstep of Sha'Kyra Rain Aughtry—a total stranger—who put her Christmas plans aside and tended to his wounds the best she could.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, the snow prevented emergency services from reaching Joe's location right away, and two days passed until Sha'Kyra was able to find transport to ECMC.

<div>Joe's condition is stable and he's in good spirits, but it's still too early to know anything about his hands.
</div>

</div>
<div>All funds generated here will be spent on Joe's most pressing medical needs. If by some miracle he leaves the hospital without lasting complications, the funds will go toward improving his day-to-day care at home, ensuring nothing like this happens again.
</div>

<div>Woon lost a member of its family on the evening of December 15th. Gaspar was Woon's dishwasher for over 3.5 years. He always showed up early, left late, rarely missed a shift, and never complained. His dream was to always go back to Guatemala to be with his family....so they are intending to fly him back to his home country for the funeral. However, this process is quite costly, so we are starting this Go Fund Me to help raise some funds to support their family. Please join us in celebrating Gaspar's life!!

<div>Back in June 2020, our friend Rob Stengel courageously beat peritoneal mesothelioma, an extremely rare type of cancer that impacts the lining of the abdomen. Unfortunately, we received the devastating news that Rob’s cancer returned this May 2022.
</div>

<div>This is an aggressive type of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure, and it is highly uncommon in people as young as Rob. He's received a positive treatment prognosis from his doctors, however it requires immediate and intensive treatment.<br /><br />However, Rob’s partner Ashley will be laid off from her job at the end of May. Ashley is their household’s only source of income (Rob is currently a full-time law student) AND Rob’s health insurance. In short, we need your help.

<div>Currently, Rob must undergo surgery to remove a blockage in his abdomen on Monday, May 23rd, by creating a new pathway from his stomach to his intestine to avoid the blockage. After his recovery, he will have spent almost two weeks in the hospital. After surgery, he will then continue to undergo immunotherapy treatments every three weeks at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

<div>All of us know Rob from different walks of life, but we can all attest to how wonderful he is. He is an incredibly kind and thoughtful person who has shown up and supported each of us time and time again throughout our friendship. After law school, Rob plans to dedicate his career to public service by protecting our country’s natural resources and enforcing environmental laws.
</div>

<div>We feel lucky that Rob is such a mentally strong person who is handling his relapse with astounding grace, level-headedness, and resolve. That being said, we need your support to ensure he can focus all of his attention on beating this disease for a second time!

Rob is Fighting for His Life & Losing Insurance

<div>Hello community members and fellow citizens! I’m fundraising for a homeless man who came to the clinic for a check up. He is 65 years old and is currently living in his car. He lost his house after his wife passed away last year. He was sobbing in the exam room and even apologized that he may smell next time he comes into the office because he can’t afford a Motel 6 often. I can’t even begin to understand the shame he feels. He has NO ONE besides his dog who lives with him in his car, that’s all he has to live for, according to him. He has uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure from eating whatever processed food he can afford and after we identified blood in his stool, he needs a colonoscopy. This man needs our help and I’m asking you all to help him at least get temporary housing, even if it’s a hotel for a few extra nights. Some clean clothes, a few days of warm meals. A man who has worked his whole life doesn’t deserve a life of indignity. His life matters.

<div>In the richest country in the history of the world, this should never happen. Ever. It speaks volumes on the lack of social safety nets in this country that have been gutted slowly in the last 40 years. This fundraiser is just a bandaid on a larger more complex issue.
