I just wanted to personally thank you for donating to the Guizzetti family.

The family is overwhelmed by the support they have received from friends, family, and the entire community. They truly cannot believe how many people have shown their support during such a difficult time.

Your kindness and generosity mean more than you know. Thank you again for supporting the Guizzetti family.

On September 6th, 2026, the Guizzetti family and community suffered the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Nathan Guizzetti. Nathan was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin and the best big brother a family could ask for. Nathan was also a friend whose kindness, presence and encouragement touched the lives of so many people.

Nathan will also be remembered for his dedication as an athlete and teammate at Korah Collegiate High School and the Sault Ste. Marie Junior Greyhounds. He had a passion for sports and excelled in football, hockey, and track and field. Whether competing on the field, on the ice, or at the track, Nathan brought determination, sportsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to giving his best. His love of athletics helped shape the person he became, creating lasting friendships and memories that will be cherished by teammates, coaches, and everyone who had the privilege of watching him compete. Nathan would move on to play with the Sault Sabercats football. Nathan moved onto post-secondary education at the University of Windsor to play for the Lancers football team.

As the family comes to terms with this unexpected loss, we are planning a meaningful service to honor and celebrate Nathan’s life as well as saying our final goodbyes. We have created this GoFundMe to help ease the costs associated with funeral and memorial expenses.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help support Nathan's family during this incredibly difficult time. If you are unable to donate, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep Nathan's loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

Nathan will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity during this heartbreaking time.

This GoFundMe has been created to support Nathan Guizzetti’s family with funeral and memorial expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Any funds remaining after these costs will be used, at the family’s discretion, toward donations, scholarships, or other meaningful initiatives within the Sault Ste. Marie community in Nathan’s name.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support in helping Nathan’s memory live on in our community.

Nathan Guizzetti - Funeral and Memorial Support

On June 23 Nevin, Karly and 6-month-old Kalan lost EVERYTHING in a fire; 2 dogs, a cat, furniture, clothing, food, and all baby supplies (crib, high chair, toys, diapers), etc.

Nevin is general contractor and lost thousands of dollars worth of tools and his work truck that was parked close to the garage. All that Nevin has left is a leaf blower and an old skill saw. Without tools, Nevin has lost the ability to earn a living and provide for his family.

Pat Noble Lumber & Building Supplies Ltd. in Gore Bay has graciously agreed to sell Nevin and Karly tools at cost to assist during this very difficult time.

Manitoulin Island is known for helping neighbours, family and being a place that supports each other, so let’s ALL help get them back on their feet during this difficult time! Please join me in contributing to this GoFundMe initiative and help Nevin, Karly and Kalan rebuild their lives. Please show that amazing Island generosity. Everything helps and whatever you can donate will go a long way.

Her daughter Mikayla is having health issues, and I’ve started this page to tell you a little about what is happening.

15-year-old Mikayla started playing hockey and soccer when she was just 4 years old. She never missed a season until now. A sore knee prevented this talented grade 10 St. Mary’s College student from registering for the 2021/2022 season. This determined girl has played with injuries in the past, but this was different.

After multiple trips from her home in Sault Ste. Marie to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, the devastating diagnosis came on December 1, 2021. Mikayla has a rare but treatable form of Lymphoma. On December 2nd she was admitted to Sick Kids Hospital where treatment began immediately. Treatment will continue over the next several months and she will need to remain in the hospital for the duration.
Gee has taken a leave from work to be with her throughout the treatment process, her father will work remotely from Toronto, and her brother will travel from the Sault to visit whenever possible.

Concerned family and friends have asked how they can support Gee and her family. As you can imagine, this situation has presented many challenges, so any support that you can provide through this fundraiser would be appreciated. Your donation will help offset the cost of travel, meals, accommodations, and other expenses.

We are all heartbroken that Mikayla has to undergo this difficult journey, but we know that this smart, compassionate and strong-willed young lady will overcome these challenges. I will keep you updated on her progress.

Thank you for your love, support and prayers.

Matthew was a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a grandson, a coach, a teammate, and an amazing friend to so many people in the community. Everywhere Matthew went, he brought a smile to people's faces. His energy and humour were unmatched, and the positivity that radiated off of him spread to anyone and everyone. The Wheten family are beautiful, loving, and selfless, and we would like to make this difficult time as easy for them as possible. Funds will cover funeral and memorial costs, as well as any additional support the family may need. Anything helps, and we cannot thank you enough for your support through this. Gone too soon and suddenly, rest in the most heavenly peace, Matt.

The Wheten's are a special family to me, my second family. Mike and Izzy have opened their home to me so many times, and now it's my turn to help them as a daughter-in-law. Mike and Isabelle will be added as beneficiaries to this fundraiser to ensure they are the sole recipients of these donations. The money will be going towards the funeral and memorial costs, personal support services for the family, and any extra money will be dispersed between the community to honour Matt's wishes of giving children a chance to play sports.

Helping the Wheten's - In Loving Memory of Matthew

To be friends with the Aikens family, means you are blessed with four very caring people in your life.

Sadly, on Sunday, May 3, the ground fell out from under them.

For days, Sonia & Leo’s 8 year old son, Grayson, complained of a sore arm/shoulder. When it got to the point where Grayson couldn’t ride his brand new bike he loved so much, they knew something was up. They called the doctor and they ordered an X-ray. It showed nothing. Maybe a chiropractor could help? The chiropractor said it oddly looked like frozen shoulder. When the doctor read this, it got her attention. They both knew frozen shoulder doesn’t usually occur in children.

The doctor consulted with an orthopaedic surgeon who ordered bloodwork and an ultrasound.

Sunday night they received a phone call. Sonia writes, “She said that the results came back from the ultrasound and blood work. That the ultra sound came back clear. But the bloodwork showed some things that were concerning. I was writing everything down on the whiteboard in the kitchen (so Leo could read it). Anemic. Blood cell count low. Infection. Blast Cells. And then I wrote the words ‘only present when cancer is present unless proven otherwise’. I re-read what I wrote. And I don’t remember much after that.” She was told to go to SAH immediately and that paediatrics would be waiting for her.

When she arrived at SAH, Sonia was told that her little boy had Leukemia. Still in shock, Sonia and Grayson were flown to London that same night. The next day, after further testing and a bone marrow biopsy, Grayson was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

With COVID being another stressor, it almost makes it impossible for extended family and friends to physically be there for them.

The Ronald MacDonald House is closed during COVID which is where they would stay between treatment phases but this is not an option. Leo and Solana will be travelling back and forth between phases as only one caregiver can be with Grayson in the hospital during these treatments.

Leo and Sonia will both be taking steps away from their work but travel, food, and bills in both places will still be there. Any donation made, big or small, will help them keep their focus on their family.

For the rest of the days ahead, I know that this family will cry, this family will laugh, this family will feel A LOT. But let me tell you, when you’ve got a team like these four and parents like these two, watch out! NOTHING will bring them down. Stay strong my friends. #GraysonStrong. As some of you may or may not know, Kathy (my mother) was recently hospitalized. A few weeks ago, mom started becoming more and more short of breath and also developed an extreme cough. Within time, she was seen by emergency room care and her primary physician, which ultimately landed her to be hospitalized and transferred to Petoskey, MI. After multiple tests, it has been determined that mom has non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. She has a weak heart with an ejection fraction of 16%, with a normal heart having one at 55-60%. Basically, moms heart is only working at roughly 20 %. This type of condition is typically treated with Beta blockers, and other medications which usually lower the blood pressure. Since mom has a very low blood pressure to begin with, treating her this way is not able to be done and is too risky. Mom is very short of breath and has difficult time engaging in any type of physical activity. The doctors are still working on determining what brought this about and how to treat her. Tomorrow mom will be transferred downstate to get access to more resources to help her treatment plan. In the meantime, mom is wearing a life vest which will shock her if her heart goes into an abnormal rhythm. It is not very probable that this would happen, but more so worn as precautionary measures. This vest has to be worn at all times for at least 90 days before a pacemaker would be considered. Mom is in for a long road of changes and a long road of recovery. I have set this fund up to help mom defray some of the major medical bills that she will be facing due to the extended hospital stay, multiple tests, time away from home and so on. It’s never easy to reach out for financial needs, but some times knowing that some medical bills will be defrayed is enough to lift a load of stress off of her already stressful health condition and situation. Anything to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you from Kathy’s husband Steve, her children, grandchildren and family for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers during this stressful time.

Matthew Clement, at the young age of 24, had an opportunity to fulfill a dream so decided to take advantage of a two year Working Vacation Program in Australia.

Shortly after attending work on Monday June 10th, he was sent home by his employer as he visibly wasn't feeling well. During his commute, he lost consciousness resulting in his vehicle leaving the highway and coming to a stop. A passing motorist stopped to lend assistance and found him draped over the steering wheel at which time an ambulance was dispatched to take him to a nearby hospital. He was diagnosed as suffering from a life threatening brain aneurism and immediately flown to Brisbane where he underwent emergency brain surgery. Matthew is currently in ICU undergoing additional medical treatment with his outlook uncertain at this time.....

His parents, Treena and Bruce Clement and brother Devan, reside in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

In the early morning hours of June 10th, Treena and Bruce were awakened by the police at their door to deliver the news that every parent fears more than anything! They hope and pray for nothing more than to be there for their son at this frightful time.

The cost to fly to Australia is approximately $3000 for one return ticket. It would be wonderful to raise enough money for both Treena and Bruce to be there when Matthew is woken from the induced coma so he is not alone. Then to bring him home when he is stable enough to be moved.

Please send your prayers and well wishes.

Any donation you can give would be tremendously appreciated!

Thank you and God bless.
Today marks the day that life will never be the same. The day that has delivered the worst possible news to a beautiful family: “Your child has a brain tumor and it’s cancerous.”

I am reaching out to the community to help my dear friend and her family.

The Fowlers are a family of seven. Mom (Mandy), Dad (Paul), KeighArra (12), Avery (11), Zachery (11), Kayge (5) & Xander (3). This family, who are always so willing to help others even when they have little themselves, have already overcome so many challenges and obstacles in the last few years, they could really use some help right now.

On May 6th, Mandy brought Kayge to the emergency department with health concerns, as his face started drooping. The doctor diagnosed Bells Palsy, but as days past and his condition grew worse, his parents became more and more concerned. Kayge was no longer able to blink, was suffering vision loss and finally, on May 24th, began losing mobility and was unable to stand and move his left leg.

Obviously concerned, they returned to emerge and Mandy and Paul pushed the doctors to complete an MRI, which confirmed their worst nightmare. Kayge had a brain tumor. The tumor was now so large that it was pushing into his eye as well as parts of his brain that affect the nerves in his face. He cannot hear out of his left ear anymore and it has also made him very weak.

They were immediately transferred to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and were advised that Doctors had strong beliefs that the tumor was cancerous.

Once at Sick Kids, doctors confirmed that he has the worst kind of brain tumour, which had wrapped itself around his brain stem. Kayge was going to start radiation immediately the following, May 26.

“The radiation will buy us time with him but they said he’s terminal.... that we have at most a year with him.... my entire world is shattered and I can’t breathe...”

They are not the type to ask for help, but with both Mandy and Paul recently starting new jobs, they don't have extended leaves or benefits. The financial burden of being away from their home town, their family, finding lodging and paying for meals all while trying to stay stong for their brave little guy will be difficult.

I want to help them as much as possible to ease this pain, if only a little, in the most basic way possible. Please help in anyway you can, small donations add up and can mean that they can eat for the day. Please help Kayge keep his parents by his side as they struggle through this nightmare.

Help the Fowlers

Amanda was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer that had spread to her abdominal cavity in July of 2015, just days before her 32nd birthday. She started chemotherapy immediately but doctors found that her high grade cancer was resistant to the therapy and the only cure would be surgery. The first surgeon that we visited in September 2015 told us she was a lost cause and gave her a year, or two if she's fortunate. We were not willing to accept this and found a team of amazing doctors at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto that were willing to operate. They gave Amanda a 20% chance of having a successful surgery due to the size of the tumours and their location. The surgeons were astonished at how well the surgery went and were able to clear Amanda of any signs of disease(November 2015). The surgery was major, 13 hours long in which they had removed all gynaecological parts, her large bowel, spleen, omentum and part of her liver. Recovery was long and difficult but Amanda is a fighter and made it through. In June 2016, she returned to Toronto to have her ileostomy reversed by one of the doctors that did her surgery. Unfortunately while doing this procedure, there was obvious signs of recurrent cancer forming on her bowel. At this point the cancer was too small to treat so it was a wait and see approach with regular monitoring out of Toronto. In February of 2017, the tumours had grown to a size that the doctors decided to move forward with treatment. This time it would be a combination of chemotherapy and a trial drug in its second phase. To participate in this study, the drugs were required to be administered in Toronto in a controlled setting. This required us to travel to Toronto every week on Wednesday and Thursday for blood work, consults and treatment. Part of the study required a punch biopsy of the tumour. Unfortunately the biopsy instrument nicked a part of Amanda's bowel which caused her bowel to leak into her abdomen. The treatment was showing promising signs with the tumours either shrinking or remaining stable. In April 2017, Amanda's body went septic and it created a fistula, which is a port from the bowel to the outside via her abdomen, in which the waste from her bowel would drain. Due to this complication, Amanda was not allowed to continue on this trial drug. She continued standard chemotherapy in Sault Ste. Marie. The first chemo was showing no affects on her tumours so they switched to a more aggressive chemotherapy. This new chemotherapy really wiped Amanda out and unbeknownst to us at the time, started shutting down her kidneys and liver. Amanda was in and out of hospital for most of July and August, until again her body went septic and her vitals dropped extremely low. She was admitted to ICU at the start of September for two weeks and doctors could not explain how she recovered and continues to do so. At this time there is no treatment that she can receive because the doctors fear it will shut down her vital organs again. Amanda's goal is to get healthy enough for them to proceed with a new treatment with confidence.

We have been asked to do a go fund me page since the start of our journey and have resisted, trying to manage on our own with savings, selling off assets, family assistance but have gotten to the point where we've run out of things to sell other than the house. Amanda went off work at the start when she was first diagnosed and we made it through the periods of short term, employment insurance and long term disability. She returned to work from August 2016 to February 2017 and we were just starting to get ourselves back on track when we were required to travel to Toronto weekly which meant flights (or driving if she felt up to it) and hotels in downtown Toronto. We realized that the further away you book your flights, the cheaper the cost so we started booking 6 weeks in advance on our credit card. When Amanda fell ill with the bowel leakage, we had to cancel those flights and got next to nothing back. Travel insurance didn't cover it because it was a pre existing condition. On top of all this, we have two beautiful children, Mason age 6 and Kayla age 3, that we have made a priority to ensure that this doesn't affect their life or their future. Kids are always growing and constantly needing new clothing and developmental programs. We are at a point right now where we're in limbo between employment insurance and long term disability and it will be almost two months of receiving no money for Amanda.

This request goes completely against our moral compasses because we have always worked hard to accomplish our goals without handouts. Amanda is a registered nurse and we worked multiple jobs while she completed her bachelors degree through Laurentian University. Amanda has worked in the mental health field and as a supervisor of a medical floor at Sault Area Hospital. She had intended to go for her masters and become a nurse practitioner prior to this. Amanda has always stressed that she wants people to focus on all of the good things that she has accomplished rather than her disease. She doesn't want ovarian cancer to define who she is and it never will. Amanda is the strongest person that I have ever met and I have no doubt that she will find a way through this.

Fate whispers to the warrior, "You cannot withstand the storm." The warrior whispers back, "I am the storm."

This has been Amanda's motto through this entire process and it's not going to change now. One way or another, we will find a way to keep pushing forward and get through this.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Dan, Amanda, Mason and Kayla

Taten Hammerberg was first diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in April of 2013, at the age of seven. When an unexplained sore knee failed to get better, Marnie Holdich (Taten’s mom) took him to Sault area hospital where Dr.’s discovered a tumour on the underside of his knee. Taten has received most of his treatment from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. When early chemotherapy failed to stop the growth of Taten’s tumour, his leg was amputated at the knee. Taten’s mom Marnie has travelled with him from Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto, for the majority of his treatments and surgery.

For a while things were looking up...Taten was feeling great, going camping, playing with friends and adjusting very well to his prosthetic leg. He stood by his mom's side as she married Jeremy Holdich (who loves him as a son). He enjoyed rough housing with his new siblings Jake and Evan, as well as his sister Greer. He was as excited as any eight year old boy can be about going back to school at Grandview Elementary and seeing his friends this September. However, in late August of 2014 a routine check-up uncovered the spread of the cancer to his lungs. The prognosis was not good.

After many tears and sleepless nights, Marnie has decided to get a second opinion and explore other treatment options for her son. She would like to bring Taten to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. St. Jude’s is a world leader in children’s cancer research and treatment. Marnie believes that this is Taten’s best chance at fighting this disease.

This ongoing battle has exhausted Taten’s family physically, emotionally and financially. Ontario travel grants pay many, but not all of the cost’s incurred for travel to and from Toronto for treatment. During his battle with cancer Marnie has been Taten’s care giver and has not been able to work. The savings are gone. Sick leave and employment insurance are limited. In addition, OHIP and Ontario travel grants will not pay out of province expenses which restricts Taten’s treatment options. Please donate to help support Taten and his family with their ongoing battle against cancer. Help keep their treatment options open and Marie by his side during the battle.

Taten's Warriors

This request is being sent to you regarding a local Sault Ste. Marie family. On November 29th, 2013, fittingly Black Friday, Amber and Chris Scornaiencki received news that all families pray never to hear. Their 5 year old daughter, Chiara, was diagnosed with Pontine Glioma; an inoperable cancerous tumour on the brain stem. Chiara is currently undergoing 6 weeks of radiation therapy at CHEO in Ottawa to alleviate the symptoms of the tumour, however, unfortunately, the radiation is only to improve the quality of her life and symptoms typically reoccur within 6-9 months and progress rapidly. Survival past 12-14 months from diagnosis is uncommon. It is a parents worse nightmare.
Amber has worked at Home Depot since it opened, Chris at Pollard Banknote. They are both currently off of work, spending as much quality time with Chiara and their 7 year old son Jaden as they can despite mounting medical, travel and household expenses. They are facing a short amount of time left with their daughter (although still praying for a miracle cure!) and the desire to make the next year of her life as amazing as they can.
Please help support this local family in their time of need by donating.
Thank you in advance.
Erin Brown
