Last year, we were able to raise nearly $11,000 -- and with that, we helped provide Christmas gifts to over 100 children in need in Franklin County -- all because of the incredible donations from people like YOU! This year, myself and my friends at WRSC are once again putting our efforts towards BOTH Franklin County Children's Services Holiday Wish Program AND Choices domestic violence shelter's Deck the Halls Program. These programs provide gifts for nearly 4,000 children who are either in foster care or housed through Choice's domestic violence shelter. Friends, we are calling on you to show up once again to provide some Christmas magic and give these children a brief respite from the pain and trauma they've suffered. As always, all funds collected will go directly towards buying gifts for the children served by these two fantastic programs who most likely would not receive a single gift for Christmas if not for the giving spirit of those in our community.

<div>On Tuesday evening, January 7, Anthony, Teiko, Kaori, Kai, and Olivia were forced to evacuate their generational family home, which they had just moved into, due to the rapidly spreading Eaton Fire. Tragically, upon returning the morning of January 8, Anthony discovered that the wildfire had completely destroyed their home and all their belongings.

<div>While Anthony and Teiko are profoundly grateful that their family is safe, they are now faced with the overwhelming reality of having lost everything. They are grieving this immense loss while also needing to stay strong for their three young children.

My name is Mari Copeny, I’m a 12 year old from Flint, Michigan. You may know me as Little Miss Flint. I have been fighting to ensure my community has access to clean safe water since I was 8 years old. <br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/40432464_1565245639481535_r.jpeg" alt="40432464_1565245639481535_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br />Ever since April 2014 my community has been faced with a lead crisis that we are still recovering from. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/40432464_1565239848895898_r.jpeg" alt="40432464_1565239848895898_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /><br />What’s even worse is that Flint is not the only community dealing with a water crisis. Across the country there are cities and communities being faced with their own water crisis, some have water even more toxic then Flint. <br /><br />Newark, NJ <br />Pittsburg, PN <br />NYC<br /><br /><br /><br />This is why I want to bring clean water not to just my community but to other communities across the country that are facing their own water crisis. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/40432464_1565245305962296_r.jpeg" alt="40432464_1565245305962296_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /><br />For these campaigns, I’m partnering with a socially-responsible water filtration company to bring state of the art water filters to communities nationwide that are impacted by poor water quality. The water filtration approach has three main advantages over bottled water:<br /><br /><br />1. <strong>Cost of Impact</strong>: Every dollar donated to this campaign will provide over 160 bottles worth of safe drinking water. This has 15x the impact of donating to bottled water campaigns. <br /><br />2. <strong>Time</strong>: In Flint, I see that people are spending hours in line to receive donations bottled water. By giving people the ability to have safe water, on demand in their home, they won’t have to take time off from work or spend their weekends lined up to get bottled water. <br /><br />3. <strong>Environmental Impact</strong>: While bottled water can be a good solution for immediate fix to a crisis, it is not a sustainable fix when the world is drowning in plastic pollution. <br /><br /><strong>Flint Water Crisis Background</strong> <br />The Flint Water Crisis began in 2014 when the drinking water source for the city of Flint, Michigan was changed from pre-treated water from Detroit to the Flint River and treated in the Flint Water Treatment Plant. The treatment plant was not equipped with the proper equipment to treat the water (which would have cost around $100 a day), and the river water damaged the pipes allowing lead and bacteria to get into the water. For month’s local officials and the media claimed the water was fine and that the residents were overreacting, even as scientist began to uncover just how bad the water crisis was. Many homes had water comparable to toxic waste.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><strong>“Little Miss Flint” Background </strong><br />Through my previous water donation campaigns, I was able to donate over ONE MILLION bottles of water to families impacted by the Flint Lead Crisis. My community needed water they could trust and bottled water was the only resource for drinking water that many in my community trusted. For my new donation campaign, my team has partnered with a socially-responsible water filtration company, which will allow us to maximize the impact of donated funds and eliminate the single use plastic waste that is associated with bottled water.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/40432464_156524176846158_r.jpeg" alt="40432464_156524176846158_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br /><strong>Socially-Responsible Corporate Partner Background </strong><br />Hydroviv was Founded by a Ph.D. Chemist as a charitable response to the Flint Lead Crisis in 2015. Hydroviv was called out by The Chicago Tribune and BBC as the first water filter “company” to develop and donate high-capacity lead removal filters to families &amp; child-centric organizations in Flint. Four years later, Hydroviv now designs &amp; builds custom water filters for people around the US, and makes these products available to the public at a fraction of the cost of comparable systems. Hydroviv recently appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank where Mark Cuban praised Hydroviv’s charitable roots as “doing well by doing good.” For this campaign, Hydroviv has agreed to provide their premium filters at their break-even cost.

Deprived for years of family and friends and the ability to establish oneself professionally, the nightmare does not end upon release. With no money, housing, transportation, health services or insurance, and a criminal record that is rarely cleared despite innocence, the punishment lingers long after innocence has been proven. This is a reality that current client Kevin Strickland could soon be facing.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />For more than 41 years, Kevin Strickland has been incarcerated for a crime he did not commit!  The state of Missouri has robbed him of his youth, his health, and much of his life’s potential. He has largely lost the use of his legs and now uses a wheelchair. All for a crime he did not commit. All while the real perpetrators—to the extent they were prosecuted by the State—have long since been freed. All while there is overwhelming evidence of his innocence. <br /><br />On May 11, 2021, Mr. Strickland’s attorneys, led by the Midwest Innocence Project, filed a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus with the Supreme Court of Missouri to discharge Strickland from prison based upon illegal confinement and the record before the court.  Even the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney is requesting Mr. Strickland’s exoneration. <br /><br />As of this writing Missouri Governor Mike Parson has been made aware of Mr. Strickland’s case and the overwhelming evidence of his innocence.  At any time now Governor Parson could commute Mr. Strickland’s sentence or issue a pardon.  <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />L.R. Hello! This August I will be turning 30 years old. With reaching a milestone birthday, I wanted to leverage it by giving back to the community.<br /><br />In the recent events unfolding in our country's society, it has been highlighted how unequal life is for the African-American community. Injustices are prevalent in government, housing, and especially education.<br /><br />Where I got my high school education from is a school named Cardinal Stritch in Oregon, Ohio. At Cardinal Stritch, I was one of few black students in the school and often felt alienated. There were times I would experience cheap stereotypes and blatant racism. Now, I want to make it clear that there were only a few bad people that would treat me this way.. Although it was enough people to leave a lasting memory. The majority of people that I met at Cardinal Stritch were amazing in every single way. In fact, I still have the same best friends today that I had in 2004 when I was a freshmen there. Cardinal Stritch set me on a wonderful trajectory filled with good people and ambition.  In setting up this scholarship, I have learned that the diversity numbers at Stritch have increased since my time there. This is a great sign, but there's still work left to be done. <br /><br />With that being said and knowing how imperative education is, especially to the black community, I want to help students at Cardinal Stritch that are in a similar position that I was in. It is my goal to raise $16,000 for black students at Stritch for their upcoming college tuitions.<br /><br />The $16,000 will be spread out years to come. Meaning that an upcoming senior, once they have decided on a college and have been selected by me, will receive $2000 for their college tuition. The funds will be held in an account and sent to the student's college of choice once decided.<br /><br />I have pledged $2000 to the scholarship. I wanted to make sure that I afforded the first student's scholarship myself. I will select the student based on a written essay on a topic of my choosing and I will announce the winner later in the upcoming school year.<br /><br />So I am asking all of you to help me celebrate my 30th birthday by raising $16,000 for students that aspire to better themselves through higher education. And if we happen to go over $16,000 raised that just means more funds for the future students to come. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to reach out to me. The Webb Scholarship Fund

Brad got into a motorcycle accident in March, leaving him without most of his abdominal muscles, a fractured femur, multiple fractured ribs and many other injuries.  We are raising money to help Meg, Brad's fiance, with medical bills and other cost of living issues that have arisen due to his recovery.  Brad was released from the ICU this week, and is doing phenomenal, but the path will be long and he has many steps to overcome in this process.
