Onze golden retriever Sam van 14 maanden jong heeft enkele weken geleden de diagnose 'papillair plaveiselcelcarcinoom' gekregen. Dat is een vorm van agressieve kanker in de mondholte bij de hond. We hadden de keuze tussen 2 behandelingen: Keuze 1 :


Via chirurgie zijn tumor + omgeving ( bovenkaakbot ) laten verwijderen waardoor Sam verminkt zou zijn voor het leven en hij waarschijnlijk een mindere levenskwaliteit zou hebben. Keuze 2 : Een nieuwe behandeling, namelijk een bestralingstherapie die nog niet in België mogelijk is, waardoor wij genoodzaakt zijn iedere dag naar Frankrijk te rijden om Sam te laten behandelen. Doordat Sam nog zo'n jonge hond is moet hij meerdere sessies ondergaan om later andere onbehandelbare neveneffecten te vermijden. Uiteindelijk hadden ze nog een onuitgesproken 3e keuze en dat was Sam niet behandelen maar dan zou onze trouwe viervoeter niet lang meer leven. Aangezien Sam ons zeer dierbaar is, hebben we gekozen voor de bestralingstherapie. We zijn op het idee van een fundraising gekomen na een zeer mooie fotoshoot gedaan te hebben met Sam door fotografe Valerie van 'Tails of Life Photography'. Door haar hebben we beseft dat er heel wat dierenvrienden zijn die medeleven tonen en die verstaan wat we doormaken. Ook zelf helpt Valerie ons met deze moeilijke situatie. #nosesforsamthegolden De fundraising doen we omdat de kosten van de behandeling hoog zijn naast de kosten die we reeds gemaakt hebben voor de zorg van Sam.
