My name is Paul, and a few years ago, my life took a turn I never expected. At 53, I got very sick with COVID, and it nearly killed me. It took two years to recover and rebuild my strength. Just as I was starting to get back on my feet, I found a new job, but the work conditions were unsafe and the vehicles I had to drive were poorly maintained. Despite raising concerns, nothing changed. One rainy day, after nearly getting into two accidents, I decided I couldn’t risk my safety any longer. When I told my boss, I was fired on the spot.
Losing my job meant losing my home. My brother and I were evicted and became homeless. For about a year, we struggled to find stability. Thankfully, my brother met someone who offered us a place to stay. She has a three-bedroom apartment and let us move in while I look for work. I’ve been searching, but haven’t had any luck yet. I saw GoFundMe on TikTok and Facebook, and my brother encouraged me to give it a try, knowing others who found help here.
Right now, I have the chance to rent a room from my brother’s girlfriend for a low price while I figure out my next steps. Your support would help me secure stable housing, get a vehicle, and work toward my dream of moving to California. If I get help, I would truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. I want to give back however I can, and I’ll keep everyone updated on my journey. If anyone wants to join me on my way to California, you’re welcome to come along.
