<div>If you’ve ever visited our ranch, there’s a good chance you’ve met Maxie. She has spent years faithfully calling our barn home, greeting visitors, keeping the rodents away, and quietly reminding us that even the smallest lives leave the biggest footprints on our hearts.

<div>Recently, Maxie was diagnosed with what is very likely squamous cell carcinoma on her nose. The lesion has slowly progressed over the past several months, and she now needs veterinary care to determine the best path forward.
</div>
<div>Because Maxie has always been a barn cat, handling and treatment can be challenging. We are committed to doing what is kindest for her—whether that means pursuing treatment if it is realistic and will give her a good quality of life, or providing compassionate end-of-life care if that is the most humane choice.
</div>
<div>We are asking for help with the costs of her veterinary visits, diagnostics, possible treatment, pain management, and, if necessary, a peaceful goodbye.

<p>We recently lost our business in California, which led to us losing our house and the shop we ran our business out of. With hope and a goal of a new start, we bought a little piece of land in Arkansas to try to rebuild a new, slower paced life. GPS said it would take 30 hours to drive there, so we planned the best we could and set off to bring some belongings to our new spot. There were some setbacks to say the least. It took us nearly 9 days to get to Arkansas, we had to get new tires for our trailer twice, found ourselves running out of food and water at

<p>the worst of times, had to hand wash clothes, and got stuck in storms a few times. We were able to go to our land and drop off our trailer but it wasn't quite what we expected, the sellers weren't exactly honest to say the least. Regardless we're staying positive! But we're running out of money, it's been almost a month and we've been trying to get back to California to get our cats and the rest of our belongings! We're really worried about them, and it feels like there's always something stopping us. Our truck is now having battery and alternator problems that we need to figure out fast. If anyone could donate anything, Walmart gift cards, money, prayers, anything, we'd be beyond grateful! This was so much longer than expected and we need to get the rest of our stuff and cats. Urgent help to get our cats and regain control of our move

<div>The sudden passing of Marvin Eng in January, 2024 was a shock to all that knew him. The outpouring of support and good wishes that have flooded in are a reflection of how Marvin touched so many people.

<div>Marvin was an outstanding colleague and mentor at work, a teacher and mentor in the training of Working Dogs, a dear friend, but above all else, he was a proud parent highly devoted to his sons, Ryan and Matthew, who are currently early in their university studies.

<div>Many people have reached out asking what they can do to help and support the family. Our objective is to raise a much needed $50k towards university tuition to ensure that his sons' studies continue, and to show them our support as a community in completing that journey.

All of this is in addition to their regular medical needs for cats that have recurring respiratory infections, skin conditions and chronic IBS.

<div>The cats receive daily care as directed by a licensed veterinarian, and while they budget for those, they rely almost entirely on donations to cover the costs of out-of-the-ordinary veterinary visits and medications.

<div><strong>Who Are Happy Ferals?</strong>

<div>Happy Ferals was established in 2013 when a litter of feral kittens was found in some bushes. From there, it grew into an independent no-cage, no kill feral cat sanctuary, which is home to 26 feral-born cats. This sanctuary was created after the original colony was threatened with harm in their original home. Not wishing to see any of them hurt or killed, a solution was quickly found. All the cats have been spayed and neutered and receive round-the-clock care and attention by the sanctuary owner, Jo. Jo and her family have created an idyllic environment for the cats who have a large catio full of plenty of space to run, play or just chill out. They also have access to indoor spaces. This setup means that they can live a long and happy life without the threat of predators or urban hazards.

<div>In addition to caring for these felines, the rescue runs a Facebook group for the education, support, and networking of other rescuers and individuals working with feral cats in their areas. Jo has helped over 200 rescuers around the world with efforts to provide care and homes for at-risk ferals and continues to personally interact with and provide information to visitors and group members on a daily basis.

Help Save Happy Ferals!

<div>On Saturday August 12th, Derek was in a skateboarding accident where he hit his head twice causing swelling and severe trauma to his brain. He was rushed to Zuckerberg Hospital in San Francisco where he had a craniotomy done. Since then he’s had multiple other surgeries ending with another craniotomy on the left in hopes to help make room for swelling and for his brain to shift back where it needs to be. Derek was put into a medical induced coma and during the first week doctors where waking him slightly to see if he can follow commands, he did. Since then he has been put back in a medically induced coma where he will stay until he’s stable enough to start the deescalating process and wake him up. Until then the doctors won’t know how Derek is doing.

<div>He is currently in intensive care fighting for his life- a life that he lived to the fullest. He loved to skateboard and his jujitsu family where he is a black belt and is a huge part of his life. Derek loves his family and is an amazing uncle to Maddie James and Johnny who I have seen looking at him as a role model and friend. He adores his little sister Ashley. We believe he is likely fighting in part for her. Dereks mom and sister Nicole are by his side night and day with help from his aunt Cindy who has taken a lot of pressure off his sister so she can go back to work and not worry. Dereks stepdad Greg has also helped ease this burden and even comes on his lunch breaks to make sure Derek always has someone by his side. This has also made it easier for Derek’s mom to try and go into work a little each day. Derek has also had visits from other family like his aunts and his sister Sara and his dad who played fishing videos of them which was another thing Derek loved to do. Doctors and nurses tell the family everyday how lucky he is that he has so much love and support. They continue to fight for him everyday, I believe this is keeping him fighting.

<div>Personally, I met Derek at his sisters house and knew immediately what a kind and generous soul he was. I watched him play with his niece and nephews and all of the kids chased him like he was the coolest adult they had ever met. He even managed to build a very quick, very strong bond with my son after a game of water balloons and a race, he nicknamed Spencer the fastest kid in the world, guaranteeing my son adored him. I say that because that is who he is. He is the kind of person who takes extra time to ensure that those around him feel supported and cared for. He is the kind of person, who gives everything he has to others. In fact, as a small child, he gave his tooth fairy money to a homeless person, just to help them feel a bit better.

<div>Currently the hospital is trying to slowly reduce the medication to hopefully allow him to come out of the coma, but it is touch and go, and we are all praying endlessly that he pulls through. The surgeon is saying that he has one of the toughest cases he has seen in a long time but that he can see what a fighter he is and that Derek is holding his own.
</div>

<div>Once Derek is stable and out of ICU he will need 24/7 care and rehabilitation for at least 2-3 years. This will be very expensive. Luckily he has insurance that has taken care of most of his hospital expenses. When it comes to the next steps he will need lots of support and unfortunately need lots of help financially. Derek works in construction and will not be able to return to work if the outcome is what doctors believe it will be.

<div>The family thanks everyone for all the support, love, and kindness during this time. His mom and sister tell him everyday that he has so many rooting for him. Derek is a fighter and has shown he isn’t giving up yet.

She is survived by her husband, Shawn Forrest, and her three children Caitlin Trainer, Cole Forrest, and Carlyn Forrest. Amy has always been the self-proclaimed mother to everyone. There was never a friend or stranger that came to her door that she didn't treat as her own and send on their way with a plate of food; nor a stray animal that she wasn't prepared to make a part of the family. Her heart was so large and her love so abundant. She made every event big or small a party, gathering friends and family for song, dance, sports, food, and friendship. There was so much love that she offered to those around her every day that will be missed desperately by all the many souls whose lives she touched. My name is Sera Passalaqua; thank you for visiting our fundraiser page. Christina Passalaqua is 49 years old; she is a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving sister, beloved daughter, adored niece, favorite cousin, loyal friend, animal lover, kind soul, courageous fighter, and so much more to so many. She is married to Luis Llamas and her children are Sam (18), Sonny (14), and Ellie (8). Her journey with cancer started in 2019 when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and received treatment in California.  Shortly after completing treatment, she pursued her dream of moving her family to Durango, Colorado, in May 2021.  Christina and her family fell in love with Durango, and Durango fell in love with them.  Unfortunately, this was not the end of her journey with cancer. In February 2022, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and began treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Christina is a brave and inspiring warrior who has undergone eleven rounds of chemotherapy and five rounds of intensive radiation therapy so far. As you can imagine, this has been extremely difficult in so many ways for her family, friends, and children; we are grateful for all the love and encouragement we have received from everyone. In addition to the conventional treatment she is receiving, we are exploring other care options to help her thrive and be as comfortable as possible.

<div>Since I am using my birthday to inspire my friends and my larger network to donate to my life’s passion, I would love to share our story here.

<div>It all began with Dove, a newborn foal. In 2015, on a Colorado feedlot that sold horses to slaughter, a young black and white mare with dreadlocks in her mane and tail, gave birth to this sweet filly with a little white dove marking on her side. The filly was born amongst the chaos of the feedlot, surrounded by 100 horses all awaiting their fate to be shipped to slaughter.

<div>I had learned of the newborn foal and her Mother, and knew immediately they needed to be saved. Without hesitating, I paid for their freedom and had them rushed to a quarantine facility.

<div>While Phantom and baby Dove were in quarantine, Dove developed an infection. Feedlots are no place for any horse -- especially a newborn. The disease and sickness Dove developed from being there for the first few hours of her life, compromised her ability to fight off infection. As infection attacked Dove’s eyes, she went blind before the vets had an opportunity to save her sight. Her illness continued to develop, and at exactly six weeks old, she succumbed to her sickness and passed away while her Mamma Phantom stood helpless.

<div>The loss of baby Dove left me devastated. More than ever, I felt that she and the three other horses I had saved, needed to continue on for Dove. In the weeks following Dove’s passing, I saw the urgent need to stand up for the thousands of horses that continue to be tossed away and lost to the slaughter pipeline. So that Dove's loss would not be in vain.

<div>Into the Light was born from this chain of events, and the name represents the feeling our horses experience when they are at the end of the line in the slaughter pipeline, but are brought back into the love and light of freedom when rescued.

To date, we have rescued 90 horses, and intend to continue our mission of working tirelessly to ensure our horses are loved and cared for, and that they never again experience the horrors of the slaughter pipeline. </div>Hi everyone this is Lindsey Linton, Jonathan's wife. Jonathan was diagnosed with testicular cancer not long after the surgery that was done to remove it. He then found out that the cancer had spread to his stomach and lungs. With the recent diagnosis of stage 3A cancer he is now going through 3 cycles of chemotherapy and needs to be off work for 3 months. He hasn't worked at his current job long enough to get FLMA or short term disability so we are going through a financial hardship. <div>2020 has been catastrophic year for all rescues. There was an explosion of kittens. Rescues are full.  Although we advocate strongly for spay and neuter, we haven't seen much of an upswing which results in unwanted pregnancies, births and deaths. 2020 has not seen any improvement, in fact things are worse. Add COVID into the mix and it's not been an easy time.  It is a harsh and nasty reality that many cats live the most horrible of lives.

<div>Our current vet bill sits in the 20,000 dollar range. We have experienced not only having to spay and neuter 50 plus cats and kittens, but have some cats with horrible injuries, like broken pelvises from being thrown from a vehicle, cat's hit by a car, a little girl swung by their tail so hard that it severed the nerve to little Hannah's bladder resulting in her having to have her bladder expressed manually three times a day and her tail amputated completely.  We had a cat come in who had been attacked by a coyote and managed to escape. We treated him for his wounds and then worked with him to have him gain trust. He is a loving cat and had come out of his shell a lot. We have dozens of stories we could share. Below are some pictures with comments.

<div>We fund raise constantly. Bottle drives, craft fairs, bake sales. It is never enough. Our vet bills are astronomical. A result of difficult cases and not just a few. Our food bill alone is in the 4 grand per month range, especially if housing kittens.  We have more than 100 cats and kittens in our care waiting for a home, or to heal enough to go to their furever home. We are at a point where we aren't really keeping our head above water.  Yet the calls keep coming. The need keeps increasing. We cannot do what we do without the public's support. We need your money, as cheeky as that sounds. Every penny counts.

Today I found out that my best friend could die if I can't come up with $3000 in a month. They say without this surgery soon her kidneys will fail.<br />I am sitting here sobbing, feeling useless because as a struggling student, I can only dream of having this amount of money. Nikki has been my baby for 8 years and I have every intention of loving her for many more. I know she must be in pain right now, but even so, she is being my happy love, trying to make me feel better. She saves me everyday, but now more than ever before, she needs me to save her. Nikki Needs Surgery & I Need Her

<p>My cat Calvin was walking very strange and in pain for a few days, and we thought maybe he had a paw injury. Then he started peeing allover himself as he was just laying down and he stopped walking completely. I knew <br />something wasn’t right so I took him to ER and the did X-ray and his hip is broken.. I feel so terrible he was in <br />much pain, so they gave him pain medication to take home for the next few days until they can get a specialist <br />surgeon to do the procedure. <br /><br /><br />The cost of the surgery is estimated between $2700-2900. I will include the estimate that the vet we say at<br />ER has emailed me. If I could get some help with the cost I would appreciateit. Calvin’s Broken Hip Surgery

Lauren and Matt have worked hard to build their lives for their 2 beautiful kids, Ryder and Hadley. They are two of the most selfless people that would never ask for the help but in this devastation are currently in need. They just received confirmation that their house in Boulder Creek, CA was swept by the CZU Complex Fire this August, 2020.<br /><br />Lauren has been working towards her Bachelors in Nursing, which she couldn't be anymore qualified for. She is currently in her last semester and with the loss of her books, clothes as well as other valuable needs, we as her friends and family would like to reach out to the community in helping rebuild from the ground up. <br /><br />Matt works as a foreman at Facebook and has had his tools, clothes as well as many other necessities taken from him in this. He would often provide for others in putting their needs forward. He is truly that strong support and warm hearted individual that we respect with all of our hearts.<br /><br />Ryder and Hadley are two of the best blended children being the product of their extremely supportive parents. As you know, we have been forced to close our doors, cancel all appointments and stop all daily functions at the salon. However, our overhead cost have not stopped. We have applied for all available relief form the city, state and government, but as of now, we haven't received any relief. <br /><br />None of us know how long this will go on and while we've been trying our best to stay afloat we are starting to feel the tremendous stress and fear of the unknown. Last night, Katelyn's sweet little fur baby, Sugar, had to undergo emergency spinal surgery. On Wednesday, May 8, Sugar ruptured a disc while playing, causing her to lose motor function in her hind legs. Over the course of 24 hours her condition worsened and emergency surgery was performed to hopefully prevent further damage that could cause loosing full function of her legs. <br /><br />At the moment, Katelyn is looking at $10,000+ in medical bills for Sugar. Her road to recovery is long and the final result is unclear. If you know Katelyn, or are a client at Aqua, you know how much Sugar means to her and everyone else in the Aqua Family. Sugar is an active and spritely pup and this news has been devastating for Katelyn. She is staying positive that Sugar will recover some functionality and that she can soon be back to her playful, spirited self. <br /><br />Any contribution towards Sugar's medical expenses is greatly appreciated! Let's send Sugar and Katelyn some well-wishes for a speedy and successful recovery!

Richard Cline Cancer Assistance Fund

Gregg's Girls in Loving Memory 

We have taken on quite a few pregnant mares from the feedlot (saving them from slaughter) as well as mares that have already foaled out and the cost is a great deal more to take care of them than just the normal horse. These are very underweight mares so they are all on special diets as well as needing extra for their babies. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and please keep posted for updates. Thank you!

It is with a heavy heart that we are raising money for the funeral of Anthony (Tony) Fena.  Anthony lost his battle with his depresion and has gone home to be with his beloved Mother. Anyone who knew Anthony knew what a sharp sence of humor he had, but at the same time had the  kindest heart. Tony, you will be missed more then you would have thought! Please, anything will help. He was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease by symptoms and ruling everything else out about 2 years ago when he had rapidly dropped weight from not absorbing nutrients from any food he was eating. He was put on a steroid and antibiotics, and eventually gained the weight back and was a happy and healthy little boy.<br /><br />Fast forward 2 years later the same symptoms are happening, but this time it's at a much more rapid and severe pace, with resistance to all drugs. He lost his fat, and now all his muscle mass, he is literally a walking skeleton, but still happy as can be, purring, loving and eating like a ravenous beast as always.After hundreds of dollars, multiple doctors, ridiculous amount of vet visits, various medications, 30 tests and quite possibly a gallon of tears we almost have an answer. Probably one of the best general vets on the peninsula, Dr. Mc Vey, says he can almost guarantee it's lymphoma (cancer). <br /><br />According to Dr. McVey lymphoma is probably the "best" cancer you can have because it is treatable., and Squidward would have a good quality of life. Lymphoma is cells building on the intestinal wall, causing it to thicken so no nutrients can exit and be absorbed into the body. The only thing is, Dr McVey cannot provide chemotherapy unless a biopsy is performed and lymphoma is confirmed, but it needs to happen ASAP. As he really does not have any more weight left to lose.<br /><br />We really need your help, this cat is like a nephew to me and I couldn't even begin to explain how much he means to Jill. He isn't just a cat. He's got the intuition of a human has been there with nothing but unconditional love for my best friend, myself and all our friends. Losing him would truly be devastating, especially when he has so much life in him. It would be a shame to put down such a therapeutic and wonderful creature, just due to lack of funding.
