My wife and I were recently given a mobile home by her mother, but we soon discovered it was full of hidden mold and termite damage. Her mother didn’t know about the issues, and now we’re in a battle with the previous owners to get the title. Without a title, we can’t get a loan, and I work odd jobs to support my family. My wife struggles with severe anxiety and hasn’t been able to work, and we have five kids—three of whom live with us full time. Our daughter has asthma and gets sick anywhere she sleeps in the house, and testing confirmed the whole roof had mold damage, with some interior walls affected by termites. We can’t afford a new trailer or a big loan, so we’re currently staying at my mother’s house, all cramped into one bedroom.
I can do most of the repairs myself, including demo, drywall, framing, and plumbing. A good friend who is a licensed electrician is willing to help with the electrical work if we can buy the permits. The materials are very expensive, and even help with just part of the cost would allow me to try to get a loan for the rest. I’m working to get the title so we can either repair the home or replace it. I’m doing everything I can to keep costs down by handling the labor myself, but we need help to afford the materials and permits.
I really want to say thanks from the bottom of my heart to anybody and everybody that's sharing or donating to us. My wife is a stay-at-home mom breastfeeding our youngest, who just turned one, while filing for disability. I can't work a full-time job because I drive the kids to school every day and need to be present to help her with the kids. Between her anxiety and postpartum depression, it's been a struggle for me to get back to working a regular job, and even when I was, I'd have to call out some days because the postpartum depression made my wife not want to get out of bed. She's been going through therapy for past trauma and is trying to file for disability due to her anxiety issues. Your support means everything to us as we try to rebuild and keep our family safe.
