Mary Merrill is the mom of one of my friends, and she’s always been a caring presence in our community. Recently, Mary’s life was turned upside down when her home in OKC was overtaken by black mold. The situation became so serious that she had to move out abruptly for her health and safety. Now, her house needs extensive renovations to remove the mold and make it livable again. As an older adult, Mary is facing the difficult choice of either fundraising for these repairs or refinancing her home—a burden she shouldn’t have to carry at this stage in her life. The funds raised will go directly toward removing the black mold, making necessary repairs, and reconstructing the parts of her home that have been damaged. This support will help Mary avoid taking on new financial commitments and allow her to focus on her health and well-being. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference in helping her return to a safe and comfortable home. Right now, Mary is temporarily living with her oldest son. While she’s grateful for his support, it’s just not the same as being in your own space. Mary especially misses her beautiful garden and backyard—a place that brings her so much joy.
