<div>Sixteen-year-old Liam O’Donoghue, was involved in a tragic car accident on Friday night along with three other teens. The boys went out to hit a few golf balls and grab a quick bite to eat. While driving home on a narrow, winding road, their car took a sharp turn, left the roadway, and struck a tree.

<div>Tragically, one of the boys lost his life. The others were critically injured and remain hospitalized. Liam sustained devastating injuries. He lost his left arm at the shoulder, and despite every effort by his medical team, it could not be saved. He also suffered two fractured femurs and has already undergone extensive surgery involving rods, pins, and plates. Additional surgeries will be needed in the coming weeks.

<div>Beyond the physical trauma, Liam now faces a long and challenging recovery, learning to walk again, adapting to life with a prosthetic arm, and processing the emotional weight of this life-altering event.

Every three years, teams from around the globe gather in Ireland to compete in the World Games, celebrating Irish culture, community, and athletic excellence. Our Southeast team has earned the opportunity to stand alongside those teams and compete against the best in the world. For our players, this is more than just a tournament; it’s the chance to represent their region, their clubs, and their families. <div>Steel City Arts Foundation (better known as Steel City AF) is a live/work/play environment for comedians in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

<div>Steel City AF consists of many parts. There is a detached 3-bedroom home that houses comedians for 9 months at a time, on a rotating basis, free of charge. There are bays of computers where comedians can write, design, and edit. There is a home gym and a comedy library for the comedians (see what’s in our library here). The main building will be used to house occasional guest comedians and artists passing through town. The lower level is split into two: a podcast/recording studio and a digital showroom with broadcasting capabilities that can be used for open mics and digital shows (or a combination of the two). And, if zoning allows, the chapel will be a state-of-the-art showroom and events center that can host performances, lectures, food halls, art shows, or even be used to film movies and TV.

<div>When Martin Hofstetter died in 2014, his son Steve created the Martin Foundation in his name. The goal was to help up-and-coming comedians come up a bit quicker. The foundation provided grants to comedians to help with rent, car payments, and other bills so they could quit their day jobs and concentrate on their art full time. When COVID destroyed every comedian’s ability to tour, the foundation changed the grant system – and was able to provide $1,000 grants to 30 comedians to help cover some of their expenses. In addition, the Social Distancing Social Club provided over $50,000 more in work for otherwise unemployed comedians. And now, Steel City AF takes that to a whole new level.

<div><em>December 11, the day I heard the official news that the lump I’ve been feeling in my breast was cancerous. My last year of my 20’s feels heavy. My sense of womanhood &amp; independence feels like it’s taken a direct hit and I don’t know which way to turn.</em>

<div><em>I got diagnosed with Stage 2 B/ Grade 3 Breast Cancer. This means that I have a large enough tumor in my breast that it has spread to my lymph nodes in my armpit (after multiple testing- it has not spread anywhere else, which is great news!). A grade 3 is the highest grade you can get, which just means the cancer wants to spread as fast as it can in my body. Since it has spread to my lymph nodes and the risk of spreading is high, my oncologist and surgeon suggest chemo before surgery to stop the cancer from growing. I start tomorrow (Friday 12/28/23).</em>

<div><em>These last two weeks have been challenging, dark, and filled with doctors appointments and sleepless nights trying to process and navigate my new reality. From diagnosis to now- so much has happened and I’m feeling the need and longing to be extremely vulnerable and transparent with the very thing that’s trying to break me. I know I have an army behind me and this 2024 will force me to rely on others just as much as they have relied on me. As a “young” cancer patient I am already experiencing limited resources of support for young women going through diagnosis like this, so at the very least I hope to be a light to someone who might find themselves in my position one day…who is also just giving it their breast.</em>

After a selection camp held at Life University, 28 players were selected to compete with the South region on tournament weekends June 11-12 in New Jersey and June 24-25 in Chicago. The tournaments are being used for talent identification and development for players who have potential to play for the national team. However, we want to make sure no one is excluded because of an inability to pay, so we are hoping to raise funds to reduce the financial burden on individuals with the talent to succeed at a higher level. Funds will be used for accommodation, transportation, and meals for both tournament weekends.

We had never loved like this before. He is full of love. He has a brilliant smile and loves sports, especially basketball. He hugs everyone and is unfailingly kind. Little did we know the devastation that lay ahead.<br /><br />Recently, <strong>Connor was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome</strong> Type C, a genetic degenerative brain disorder in children caused by a single missing enzyme. It’s the worst disease you’ve never heard of. <strong>It’s like Alzheimer’s, but in children. It’s 100% fatal and there currently is no FDA-approved treatment or cure for these suffering children. </strong><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51743130_1602761833532155_r.jpeg" alt="51743130_1602761833532155_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />Because Connor lacks this single enzyme, toxic storage material is building up in his brain every second and damaging it. As the degeneration rapidly progresses, Connor will stop walking, stop talking, stop being able to feed himself. He’ll develop movement disorders and seizures, suffer severe dementia, endure a lot of pain and suffering, and then he’ll die. All in the coming years.<br /><br />Today, Connor loves being with his friends who have known him since he was 3-years-old.  Running and playing with them and  his younger brother, Keenan.  Connor loves anything active and outdoors, and plenty of snacks!  We know without a cure, all of this goes away.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51743130_1602761854190325_r.jpeg" alt="51743130_1602761854190325_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><strong>But there is hope!</strong> Researchers at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX, are ready to conduct <strong>the first-ever gene therapy clinical trial for Connor’s type of Sanfilippo Syndrome</strong>. Research for this gene therapy has shown in pre-clinical models that it can stop the disease. This clinical trial is the crucial step of determining whether earlier research is able to show the same therapeutic benefits in children. <br /><br /><strong>But it lacks funding.</strong> Millions are needed to fund the final pre-clinical steps, gene therapy drug production for children (aka medicine), and the clinical trial costs. <br /><br /><strong>Our goal is to raise $3 million dollars to fund this clinical trial</strong> and give Connor a chance at growing up, a chance at life. In Memory of Jennifer Comey

Many of you may have already heard some sort of story about my sister Alli. I am writing to fill everyone in on her story and recovery process.<br /><br />On Thursday evening, September 3rd Alli was in a boating accident on Congamond Lake. Her right foot(ankle down) was cut off by a boat propeller. While Alli was in the water noticing a significant difference in the feeling of her leg, a friend jumped in and brought her back to the boat. During the event, luckily there was a Paramedic near by on another boat who saw the incident play out. He tied off her leg and kept it elevated to stop any extra blood loss. While they waited for an ambulance to come, Alli remained awake/conscious and calm with the help of this stranger and her friends.<br /><br />Once at Baystate Medical Center she underwent surgery to clean out the wound and to access the damage that had been done. Doctors discovered that she had fractured her leg a few inches high from the original ampuation, and they also gave her antibiotics to stop any possible infection. She had her last surgery on Sunday where the doctors made the decision to amputate higher, above the broken area. Amputating higher means it will be a better recovery and take to a prosthetic much easier. As of now she is still in the hospital and is recovering spectacularly. Doctors are trying to get her pain under control before sending her home. She is in good spirits and can’t wait to be with friends and family.<br /><br />As Alli starts this new journey in her life, she is going to have to go through a recovery process that will include physical therapy and getting a prosthetic. We have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the best prosthetic we can get for her. In these trying times I know money can be short so anything counts, especially if it means that she gets to walk again! <p>Our mother lost just about everything she owned in a house fire this morning. We are so grateful that she was able to hear the smoke detector from her bedroom and get out of the house in time. 
</p>

<p>Anybody who knows mom, knows she’d give you the shirt off her back. We hope we can repay her lifetime of kindness by helping her out in this time of need. 
</p>

<p>Mom has taken everything in stride and maintains her “I’ll make do” attitude, but Amy and I are a bit more concerned. 
</p>

<p>Mom is on a very limited, fixed income and there was no insurance policy on the place. We’d like to raise a little bit of money to help her with lodging, meals, and basic necessities. 
</p>

<p>I’ve tried to talk her and my step-dad to coming to Florida to stay with us for a while, but as many of you may know, they’ve both had a pretty rough start to 2020 with medical problems. Mom is battling thyroid cancer and George is still recovering from a stroke and a botched bypass surgery. 
</p>

In 2005 my brother, Ryan, was the victim of a robbery at gunpoint.  The assailant had left him for dead after shooting him in the abdomen.  If it wasn't for his Navy friend's, who were trained in battlefield casualty care, Ryan would probably not be here today.<br /><br /> Ryan was rushed to the hospital and stabilized after number of hours in ICU.  Doctors broke the news about his injuries.  He would not be able to walk again.  Ryan had overcome many obstacles in his life and this one was no different.<br /><br /> Ryan quickly adapted to his new lifestyle and battled through intense physical therapy to move on with his life.  He endured a lot in a short time frame and with the unconditional love and support from our family and friends Ryan was back on his "feet".<br /><br /> Ryan has participated in Tampa's PNC Miles for Moffitt since our father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in Aug 2013.  He and his team have raised thousands in support of cancer research.  He also has played on the Tampa Bay Ray's wheelchair softball team.  Despite his injuries Ryan works 40 plus hours a week.  <br /><br /> Alright enough of the sob story let's get to the point... Ryan has been through many wheelchairs and the pain of finding a wheelchair for an active, "able-bodied", thirty-something man is tasking... The form fit and function of such a chair comes at a price.  <br /><br /> Insurance only pays for a new chair every 5 years. Ryan recently started at a new company so he is currently without insurance that will cover his chair.   As we have seen in the past, Ryan will end up with pressure sores and possible infection as a result of the pressure sores if he doesn't get into a properly fitted chair.  Resulting in bed rest to recover from the sores which keeps him out of work. <br /><br /> That is why I am reaching out to the masses to help Ryan acquire such a chair.  This should be an easy decision to lend a hand to someone who gives back to his community, friends, and family.

Ryan's New Wheels

I am Todd Hurd  (Uncle Todd) and Josie Is My Niece  the daughter of my sister Traci Hurd Andrews. Josie was Diagnosed with <strong>P.A.N.D.A.S. </strong><br /><br />PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) occurs when strep triggers a misdirected immune response results in inflammation on a child’s brain. <br /><br />In the last 6 months Josie has had surgery and treatments that have not worked. Unfortunately PANDAS is rare and the closest specialist is in Washington DC. The next treatment is called IVIG and has a great sucsess rate! The problem.... its not covered by insurance and neither is the traveling, hotel stays, missed work, and everything else associated with this long distance treatment.  There is usually a long wait list to get the treatment.Traci as determined as she is,  worked with the specialists to get her moved up based on the progression of symptoms. The treatment is $11,000.00 to start and must be paid prior to treatment. The money I am trying to raise will pay for the treatment and anything else needed to get Josie better, any funds left over will be donated to help another child needing treatment.  To Josie I am Uncle Todd, I am a Hero, Firefighter, Fun, Role Model, and Protector, unfortunately I cant fix this . I am asking all my friends and family to help! I am not lucky enough to have my own children and this is as close as it gets. This is my........ girl scout cookies, school fundraiser, cookie dough, boy scout popcorn, night at the races, walk for a cure, read a thon, and all the other ways I have happily donated. My name is Natalia. I'm 31. I am fighting triple negative breast cancer and need your help.<strong><br /><br />MY STORY</strong><br /><br /> When my mother found out she was pregnant with me, without telling anyone, she made an appointment to have an abortion. One week before the appointment, she accompanied her sister to a psychic. My mother sat in the waiting room as my aunt cast spells on some unknowing lover. Suddenly, the psychic came out of the room, walked straight over to my mother and said, "I know what you are thinking. Don't do it." When I grew up and heard this story, I wanted to thank the psychic for saving my life, but apparently he had been murdered (cue mysterious musical sting). Like a character in a 1980s romantic comedy, I vowed to live a meaningful life worthy of this psychic's good deed. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/5701681_1439923323.0259_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />My thirty-one years on this planet have been filled with my share of grief: The awkward and ulrelenting years in Jr. High, The murder of my 18 year-old cousin, my friend Kevin dying of cancer at 27, my parents divorce, gut-wrenching breakups, and most recently being laid-off from my dream job at DreamWorks TV. <br /><br />Despite an <em>all you can eat buffet</em> of bad news, I remained  positive, and can say with a full heart, I've had a damn good life. Plus I figured the remaining two-thirds  would be easy, breezy, beautiful <em>Cover Girl</em>. A life that resembled a low-impact hiking trail at Runyon, where Youtube celebrities go to post fitness #selfies, but no one expects to get a real workout. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/5701681_1439924004.3463_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />Then, in April of this year, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer - the cherry atop an already fucked-up sundae. <br /><br />The last four months have been filled with a series of cancer adventures that included: freezing my off-brand PuertoGreekan eggs for later use, having a break-down in the middle of Riverside Drive, losing my hair, sitting through 8 rounds of chemotherapy surrounded by an entourage of kind souls, a full-body heat rash,  considering veganism and yoga as a "lifestyle" (who am I??),  indulging in the wonder that is having handicapped parking (perhaps cancer's greatest gift), lots of crying on the 405 (partly because of Cancer and partly because it's the 405), harrasing my nurses with Snapchat, being offered sex because I looked like a "bald, sexy shaman," learning to be vulnerable, discovering my strength, and experiencing the true capacity of human kindness. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://2dbdd5116ffa30a49aa8-c03f075f8191fb4e60e74b907071aee8.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/5701681_1439924388.2127_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><strong>WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT? </strong><br /><br />In the last couple of weeks, we discovered chemo isn't working and I need to move into the surgery phase of my treatment. I’ve elected to have a bi-lateral double-masectomy and reconstruction. This is scheduled for August 28th at St. John's in Santa Monica under the skilled hands of Dr. Kristi Funk and Dr. Jay Orringer - better known as the hands that re-built Angelina Jolie in 2013.<br /><br />My insurance has covered most of my medical bills thus far, however the choice to go with Dr. Orringer is considered "Out-Of-Network" and means I will have to go out of pocket for some of the costs. Why did I choose Orringer and not some rando plastic surgeon? Because he’s an artist and highly respected in his field. He and Dr. Funk work closely together. He is a man who is constantly learning and perfecting his craft. A man who speaks to you in a way that is kind and reassuring like Robin Williams in Patch Adams. And after meeting with several surgeons, I couldn't imagine facing the next leg of this journey without him. As a 31 year-old woman, with breast cancer, this is not just a rando boob job. Dr. Orringer will have to reconstruct two breasts from nothing and like anything in life (strippers, tattoos, medical care), you get what you pay for.<br /><br /><strong>WAYS YOU CAN HELP</strong><br /><br /> 1. Your text messages, phone calls, emails, and rides to the doctors have shown me a love that makes Nicholas Sparks look like an asshole. I want to help other young women with this fucked up disease, I want to fall in love - and then fall out of love so I can post passive-aggressive quote memes on Instagram. I want to get into a water-gun fight in a hot air balloon (Is that a thing? Because it should be.) How Natalia Got Her Boobs Back

Cancer is  not a word any parent likes to think about, but this dirty disease has recently been on a lot of our minds. As many of you may know, sweet Sofia Anderson, 2 year old daughter of Patrick and Catalina Anderson has been diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma. They are such a strong family, but they have a long road ahead of them. They will be recieving chemotherapy at All Children's  Hospital in St Pete, where they are currently staying.  It is an incredibly heart-wrenching experience to have to watch your child go through any pain, much less being told they will have to battle the big C.  Cat and Pat have touched so many of our lives with their kindness and friendship. I know many people have been asking how they can help. Staying in the hospital for such a long time is not only  emotionally exhausting but also financially draining. Any donations towards little Sofia's care would be greatly appreciated.

<div>We all are well aware that our medical system is despicably broken, as it prioritizes profit over care. As many of us can relate one way or another, Chris and his family have fallen prey to said system. In a matter of a few years a perfectly healthy man in his 40’s with a good job and savings has lost the financial ability to live the life he deserves due to an unpreventable sudden illness. This is his story and why we are asking our community for help.

<div>Chris’ medical journey over the past few years has been a whirlwind of uncertainty, prolonged diagnosis, long hospital and rehab stints, therapies, several bouts of septic infections, numerous intense surgeries, amputation, etc. He is a complete paraplegic who became disabled in 2022 due to a rare disease called Transverse Myelitis. He is ineligible for medicaid due to his disability payment amount. The system has decided as a fully disabled person who is unable to work, he does not qualify for healthcare because of his meager SSDI income. He has spent a collective total of about two years hospitalized, applying for and being denied Mainecare several times within that period. When he was able to discharge from the hospital and live in a handicap accessible apartment for a short time he drained all of his savings, 401k, and liquidated his stocks to pay for his necessary home health care. Since then his condition has tremendously worsened due to large wounds and infections. His medical plan is now one of palliative care, as his medical team has concluded there is no further restorative or progressive treatment they can do. We aren’t sure whether we will have weeks, months, or years left with this wonderful man earth side, but we are coming together to make those days possible and dignified. His condition calls for residency in a 24/7 care skilled rehab facility but our broken healthcare system has made that option impossible. Knowing he is in his final chapter, living at home with his loving daughter and having more opportunity for joy is the best choice for him and his children anyway. Jasmine has a full time job as a licensed therapist providing mental healthcare for the children, adults, and families of our community. She will be by his side with endless loving support and that requires the help of medical professionals.

<div>Paying for home health care out of pocket is very expensive. Of course there are many other costs associated with this plan. We are only asking for help with the home care aspect with the understanding that if his time is cut shorter than we expect, the left over funds will go toward end of life services. Chris has a medical necessity of about 30 hours of in-home care per week. At a minimum rate of $30/hr we are in great need of community financial support.
