<div>My husband Frank and I are doing everything we can to save the sweetest pup ever, our dog Bindi. <span>Bindi has Cushing's Disease and we finally thought we had it under control, but a complication from the disease caused gastritis and pancreatitis, and now has led to her gallbladder needing to be removed.</span>
</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>She has been in the emergency vet hospital since May 16th and even with Pet Insurance, we’re looking at paying thousands of dollars. So we are reaching out to family, friends, strangers - whomever might be willing to help us cover the cost so we can get her back home snuggling with us on the couch.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>Whatever you can donate - any amount is helpful. Thank you all so much.

Bindi’s surgery & recovery

<div>Mabel's Fables Bookstore opened at 662 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto in September 1988. Many families, both local and from afar, have been supporting us for generations. Some people call us a cultural icon in our community. We are known for our amazing curated book selection, our booksellers' expertise, our Baby's First Library gift baskets, birthday book bundles, and our popular Book-of-the-Month subscription program.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are proud to say that we have already weathered a number of storms; the decreased traffic due to the LRT construction hit us in 2018, the purchase of our building by developers in 2019, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic, when our doors were locked for eleven months. It is only because of the huge support from our customers and community, that we slowly have been able to recover.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A move is not our preference but out of necessity, as our landlord has informed us of their intention to build a condominium in the next two years. Our building will be demolished. While our landlords say they will find us a temporary location during construction, we know that could be even harder to recover from.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>So, to be proactive, we have been shopping for a new Mabel's Fables home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And we found one! Just 422 steps south of our current location, 540 Mount Pleasant Road has wonderful possibilities. The store will be on one level. We will have extra room for events such as our baby and toddler classes, book launches, book clubs, school visits, presentations, and baby book showers. It even has the same north-west corner as we have at our Hillsdale location. Mabel’s Fables 2.0 will have the same feel, the same wonderful books, the same wonderful people and kids, and the same hard-working bookstore cat.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But we will not be to make this vision a reality this without your support!
</div>
<div>Moving to a new location means a lot of additional expenses that are impossible for a small bookstore like us to weather alone which is why we are asking for your help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our goal is to raise $150,000 to help us cover moving expenses including:
</div>
<div>• Renovations to the new space including a customer washroom, tearing down multiple walls to make room for our storyroom event space, painting, electrical, lighting, flooring and carpets
</div>
<div>• New custom bookshelves, display furniture, signage and new computers
</div>
<div>• Moving week costs including movers costs, additional staff hours to pack up the store, and set up
</div>
<div>• Income that will be lost during the week we will be closed for the move.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With these funds we will be able to focus on making the new location just as magical as our store has always been, and show everyone that 540 Mt Pleasant Road is another happy place for our community's children and grandchildren to enjoy as we transform it into another Toronto destination for years to come.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are so very grateful for your continued support for Mabel’s Fables. We would not be here without our wonderful customers and community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you thank you thank you!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Stay up to date with all the latest news - follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We will close our current location permanently August 23, 2025. Watch for us opening just down the street early September 2025!

Mabel's Fables Next Chapter Fund

<div><strong>Mayday! Mayday! Save Our Slipstitch!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Hello! I’m Rosie. I’m a knitter, teacher, and owner of <a href="https://slipstitchldn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Slipstitch</a> , an independent wool shop and craft workshop in north London. I may be biased but I think Slipstitch is brilliant. Since we opened in 2019, we’ve become an integral part of our local community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We’ve taught hundreds of people to knit and crochet. Our <a href="https://slipstitchldn.co.uk/collections/events/products/meet-and-make" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">weekly socials</a> bring people together through craft. We champion British wools and ethically sourced yarns. Our customers come back time and time again to show us what they’ve made and keep us updated on their lives. Our <a href="https://slipstitchldn.co.uk/collections/events/products/queer-craft" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queer Craft socials</a> make us a safe space for LGBTQ+ crafters. Customers bring us cake, pop in with their dogs, chat over the counter.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But like a lot of businesses, we’re struggling.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>How did we get here?</strong>
</div>
<div>Opening in 2019 meant we were still a young, fragile business during months of lockdown. Our staff didn’t qualify to be furloughed but I’m really proud that I paid all my staff’s wages all the way through lockdown. The complications of Brexit meant we had to stop stocking one of our main brands, disappointing our customers and meaning we had to start from scratch with new suppliers. Rising inflation has driven up our costs and we’ve done the best we can to absorb them.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On top of those financial pressures, our Queer Craft events have led to us being the repeated target of anti-trans graffiti. Some people don’t think that we should be welcoming everyone: we’d like to prove them wrong.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All of this has finally caught up with us. Without a major change in fortunes, Slipstitch is at risk of closing, putting multiple people out of work. Muswell Hill would lose not just a shop but an important part of its social fabric. We know the health benefits of craft and of being together with other people; it would be disastrous to lose them.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I love being part of the craft community, the local community, the queer community - and now we’re asking our communities for help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>How you can help</strong>
</div>
<div>We’re a business, not a charity, so if you’d like to support us, you can of course just <a href="https://slipstitchldn.co.uk/collections" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">shop with us</a> . We have a range of <a href="https://slipstitchldn.co.uk/collections/kits" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">kits</a> ready to go that are great for new crafters and make an easy way to support us.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you’re not a crafter but think we’re a good thing to have in the world, we’d really appreciate any support you can give us. Just sharing this page would be brilliant.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What your money does</strong>
</div>
<div>£5 funds the tea, coffee and biscuits at a Meet and Make social session
</div>
<div>£18 buys for an extra chair so someone can join Meet and Make
</div>
<div>£25 funds the staffing for one Queer Craft session
</div>
<div>£52.50 pays for an hour and half of craft teaching
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Our goals</strong>
</div>
<div>We’re starting with £10k. It would make up the shortfall we’ve had over the last six months, help us clear some outstanding bills, and ensure we get through the quiet of summer retail. If we reach that, we'll increase our goal so we can thrive and not just survive.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We think we’re worth having in our community. Thank you for helping us stay part of it.
</div>

Keep this craft shop open!

<div>Hi all, my name is Cynthia, and I was Michael Dalipe's wife until August 2024.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This fundraiser for general expenses to help me recover after his sudden and traumatic death, and now the drawn out legal battle that we face ahead.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/82456187_1725050985566771_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What happened?</strong>
</div>
<div>On August 23, 2024, Michael answered the door and was shot in the head after a brief conversation. Thinking that it was an online friend and that an accident had just occurred, I ran to the door to find blood everywhere, my husband dead, and the perpetrator gone. That was when everything broke for me. I was extremely lucky to not have been killed as well, given how close I was.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>There is unfortunately a lot more detail that I hope to share, but given the active criminal case and that I'm considered a witness, it's not time yet.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Our relationship</strong>
</div>
<div>We were together for 20 years (2004-2024) and were high school sweethearts. He was my rock and my best friend through thick and thin as we grew into adults.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Michael had a lot of gaming friends from all over the world who were his second family. This has been a shock, and even now, I still get messages from them to let me know they were thinking about him as they continue on their personal journeys.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Now what...</strong>
</div>
<div>We're all in shock right now and trying to pick up the pieces after this immense loss. It's now just me and our corgi (pictured above as a puppy).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even two years later, things are still rough financially, especially as...
</div>
<ul>
<li>We've confirmed that there was no life insurance to help cover any expenses
</li>
<li>The police still have my phones and other devices (that still have a repayment plan <em>plus monthly required services!)</em>
</li>
<li>My sudden change in tax filing status from married to single drastically reduced my income
</li>
</ul>
<div>... among so many other things. I write about them on my blog at times, just to vent my frustration.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you'd like to support me, the best way to do it would be through this GoFundMe campaign. Otherwise, I always appreciate the messages and love that I receive from people, including those I haven't spoken to for such a long time. It means so much!!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Lots of love to all of you who have read this far,
</div>
<div>Cynthia

Support Michael Dalipe's wife after his murder

<div>In 2021, after I dropped out of college because I was unable to do schoolwork after covid, my parents decided to kick me out because the student loans to pay their rent stopped coming in. One of my then-partners took me in and made grand promises to help me get on my feet.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I know now that what those promises meant to her and what they meant to me were vastly different and nearly three years later of her doing as little to help me as she possibly could, she has decided that she's done with me, too. I need money to move somewhere else, hopefully somewhere that will actually help me get me on my feet instead of stringing me along with grand promises of the bare minimum.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I'm asking for two thousand to supplement whatever I can save up. Ideally, it'll go towards a car and any unexpected surprises that crop up.

Kylie Escape Her Roommates

<div>Hi, My name is Teresa and I operate Helping Paws Rescue (with a lot of help from our volunteers) in Vienna, Ontario, Canada. <a href="https://www.helpingpawsrescue.ca" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">www.helpingpawsrescue.ca</a> We rescue dogs from local shelters, puppy mills, and we do take in some owner surrenders, as well as emergency cases. We have been rescuing dogs since 2003 and are very grateful for the community's support and volunteers who help us out. To date, we have rescued and found homes for 1,029 dogs and counting, something we couldn't have done without the tremendous support of our followers. The need for rescues has increased dramatically in the last year, as there are many overbreeding, expecting "sales" to be the same as they were 1-2 years ago during covid. However the opposite is true. More dogs are being abandoned/surrendered than ever, as owners go back to work and lives get back to normal, they are finding they don't have time (their dogs are not a priority). So not only are dogs being surrendered by owners but also the puppy mills and irresponsible breeders who tried to keep making money with their breeding operations, but now can not sell their puppies.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We rely on fosters for most of our dogs but we do have 3 kennels that house some of the larger dogs who need more training and socializing. These kennels have not been updated in many years and are in desperate need of replacing, they have rotted off at the bottom and 1 of them is unable to house a dog any longer. The estimate to replace these kennels is $2,800 Luckily my husband is handy and can help with any renos and construction. But we do need the supplies. Pressey Construction has suggested a complete rebuild of the kennel to accommodate 3 rescue dogs, a wash station (so that we can wash &amp; groom all of our rescue dogs to save money), storage for supplies and food, office/meeting room. This will make it possible to meet potential adopters in an area AND have a work area which can be open to the public to come and visit the dogs. (which has never been possible in the past). I am so excited about this possibility. However even though the labour is free, the materials are not. We try to be as frugal as we can with supplies but sometimes we can not substitute or buy used. For this reason we are asking for your support. We have raised enough money for the outdoor kennels!! With your help, we can build a facility that will enable us to help more dogs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are able to help us with this desperately needed kennel build, we would be ever so grateful.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have reached our 1,000 rescue dog goal, with your help! I'm looking forward to helping the next 1,000! Thank you for your support! &lt;3

Helping Paws Rescue - Kennel Renovation

<div>Hi, friends of Clodagh and Winston! This GoFundMe has been set up to help Clodagh with some potentially significant vet bills. Her pup, Winston, has been diagnosed with Uveodermatologic Syndrome. This autoimmune condition affects the pigmented cells of the body, especially in highly pigmented organs like the eyes and skin. It is generally believed to be due to the immune destruction of melanocytes, the pigment cells in the body. Sadly, Winston has gone blind from this and will require surgery to remove both eyes. A heartbreaking situation for a fur parent to go through. Life after the surgery will also require special equipment to help Winston navigate his new world. All funds raised will be used for the surgery and whatever special equipment is needed for his care afterwards. Please, help us give Winston a paw up!
</div>

Help for Winston!!

<div>My name is Hannah, and I am a transgender woman. I've been transitioning for about a year now. I am lucky enough to have a loving, supporting family, and many friends who care for me. However, I am uninsured and have very little money to spend on myself. Medical transition can be an expensive process, and currently, I am trying to rid myself of the excessive body hair that has bothered me all my life. The most accessible and reliable process for long-term/permanent hair removal is laser hair removal, which will gradually reduce the amount of hair on my body over the course of many treatments. It is a time consuming process, and the cost can become prohibitive when trying to cover most of one's body. To that end, I have started this campaign to help me accomplish that goal, and pay for the many treatments that I cannot do by myself. The amount I am asking for comes from a quote from my local hair removal specialist, with a little bit of wiggle room in case of any extra costs. The eventual total cost of my treatments could end up being lower than that total, as there are occasional discounts available, depending on when I am able to pay. Rest assured, nothing donated to me will go to waste. Whatever I cannot spend on my own transition, I will make sure goes to someone else who is struggling. Your contribution will help a trans person in one way or another.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>To anyone who chooses to contribute, I give my heartfelt thanks. Coming to terms with my gender identity has given me an entirely new perspective on my life. I have felt so much joy for the first time in many years, but also a great melancholy. Knowing who you are meant to be is uplifting, but the road to reach those goals is long and difficult. The anxiety of being unsure if I could ever afford to get the treatment I need has weighed heavily on me. So I thank you for your help, I couldn't do it without you.
