My name is Christina Reeves and I live in the Atlanta, GA area. I'm currently helping my friend and my mom's caregiver, Jean Ellis, (who also lives in the Atlanta area) raise immediate funds for her disabled brother Nicholas Cameron, 53, who lives in St. James Parish, near Montego Bay, Jamaica. He lives independently, but his home suffered heavy roof and water damage when Hurricane Melissa ripped through the island of Jamaica on Tuesday, 10/28.

Nicholas suffered a spinal cord injury in his 20s and has been wheelchair-bound ever since, but he's been able to live on his own for the majority of his life. Jean's and Nicholas' sister, Evelyn, who lives in the Wilshire area of St. James Parish, looks in on him regularly and comes by with home-cooked meals and supplies.

Nicholas lost much of the roof to his house, but currently has nowhere to go and is still living in the only inhabitable section of his house without power, water, and essential supplies. He needs a new mattress, sheets, comforter, clothing, shoes, and toiletries—things most of us take for granted. St. James Parish will hopefully get power back between November 7th and 10th. The immediate goal is to help Nicholas with his initial supplies, but also use any donations to help pay the contractors to repair his home and get it livable again.

All donations will be wired directly via Western Union to Jean's sister Evelyn to be able to help Nicholas directly. We know there are so many in the region that need help right now, but Jean means the world to us and by extension so does her brother. Anything you can do to help him with immediate needs is greatly appreciated.

Bladder cancer is now stage 4 and has spread. I am fighting this right now along with kidney disease which started as kidney failure.

This all started last year in May of 2022. Once I had the PET scans they could see other spots in my body where it metastasized. I have a couple spots on my left lung and other places in my body. The bladder tumor has not shrunk significantly.

I am doing chemo once per week. That will change in two weeks once I have a new PET scan and the doctor changes my chemo drugs. I had a side effect to one of them so we had to stop it temporarily. I am not back on it. So we shall see how I respond. The chemo has been destroying me. It really affects the healthy and good parts of you while also trying to destroy the bad.

Basically chemo doesn’t know the difference in good and bad in your body and just attacks it all. It’s odd how it works but that’s how it works. And both drugs I’m on have serious side effects. I get Keytruda once every three weeks and Padcev each week.

I will follow this up in a day or so once I get the info I had in my previous fundraiser. It had tech issues and had to be fixed and not everything was transferred over when they helped me create the new fundraiser.

Anything you can do to help and share this is greatly appreciated. I feel like hell and each day is getting to be harder and harder. ❤️

Help For Cancer Which Has Spread & Renal Failure

Please help raise money for expenses for the unforeseen and unfortunate loss of Katie. Katie was gruesomely murdered in Piedmont Park early Wednesday morning. Katie was as a kind, beautiful and loyal partner. The following words are from Emma her wife of 6 years and best friend. Bowie (not pictured) was also the love of Emma’s life.

From Emma:Today I lost the love of my life and my baby boy. It was tragic. She was the most intelligent, kind, humble, and beautiful person I have ever known. I wanted to spend every second with her. He was the sweetest most loyal companion. My heart is so very broken, my world will never be the same. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. It is truly appreciated.

To everyone who has donated, sent words of condolence and helped keep Katie and Bowie in the media.

There are no words to express the gratitude of your generosity. We will continue to work/pray/be present in keeping Katie and Bowie in the hearts and minds of everyone to prevent this from happening again. We will not stop until there’s justice. It could be next week or next year. Nonetheless we will never stop. I ask now if you’re a believer in Christ to pray that the perpetrator(s) is/are found and brought to justice. We pray for the safety of your families and that you have many blessings laid upon you.

Katie Gone too Soon

Manuel’s Tavern, Jimmy Carter’s favorite bar, needs our help.

For the better half of a century Manuel’s has been part of Atlanta’s beating heart, the living room for many Georgians, and a welcoming watering hole and meeting hall for artists, lawyers, carpenters, academics, police, actors and activists. Manuel himself created an environment where folks from any walk of life could comfortably sit together and enjoy a beer or a burger.

While Manuel’s has met many challenges over the years, those challenges primarily were changes to the business environment, as in the Great Recession of 2008-2009, for instance. In every case they have risen to the challenge and emerged resilient and successful.

This time is different. This is no normal business cycle. This year the coronavirus threatens everything that Manuel’s has meant to Atlanta and particularly to its nearby neighborhoods. Like many small businesses and family-owned restaurants during this pandemic, Manuel’s is facing the sad reality that within the next few weeks its doors may have to close forever.

Despite taking every step recommended to keep Manuel’s safe, to upgrade the takeout business, lower all costs while taking care of employees, and judicially use Payroll Protection Plan funding, sales dropped 62%, and so the PPP and cash reserves dried up completely.

Congressional infighting has delayed further funding for small businesses, and vaccines that would eliminate the disease are finally on the horizon but a few months away. Manuel’s needs our help to find a way to make it to that next source of funding and then to normal market conditions returning after vaccinations.

With this Go Fund Me effort we are asking for donations from everyone for whom Manuel’s has been home for important moments in their lives…meeting the love of your life, celebrating a marriage (or a divorce), a new job, a winning political campaign, a birthday, a retirement party, or the heartfelt memorials for those lost and mourned.

If you can donate to this fund, please know that every dollar will go to help Manuel’s survive. Please contribute as generously as you can. An Atlanta without Manuel’s Tavern is a loss to the heart of our city and personally to the thousands who have come through its doors for over 64 years. We must keep those doors open.

She was rushed to the emergency vet and they are working to do everything they can to save her life. The first 24-hours are critical and we are holding out hope that she will pull through.

Anyone who has met David knows that he would do anything for his dogs and that Selene is like his child. We are looking at some very big expenses during the next few days. Anything you can donate will go straight to Selene’s care.

Our much beloved Rob Treutel was feeling good at the start of 2016 and ready to make the move from his mountain cabin in Blairsville, Georgia back to Atlanta. Soon after, he started feeling sick. He went to the doctor but was dismissed and sent home with Zpac. Two days later, with his breathing considerably compromised, Rob was admitted into Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia. They put him on a CPAP machine in the attempt to help him breathe. By Friday, January 15th, he was taken to ICU, sedated and put on a ventilator to allow his heavily infected lungs a chance to rest. As well, his liver and kidneys were damaged and he became septic. Thru the weekend and with a slight uptick in his vital signs, they attempted to bring Rob off the ventilator and reduce sedation. Over the course of his 12-day stay at Emory, there were several hopeful days. The staff attempted breathing trials and he was able to go 2 hours without the ventilator for several of those before being put back on with light sedation due to increased heart rate.

On Friday, 1/22, while his mom was singing his favorite lullaby as a child, Rob briefly opened his eyes, turned his head, and made recognition for his mom, his sister and his aunt, What an incredible blessing that moment was, and offered some hope to all of us that Rob could pull thru.

Unfortunately, a favorable outcome was simply not to be. Rob’s health really started to decline on Saturday, 1/23. He went into septic shock and infection further damaged his liver. He started showing signs of jaundice, he started to fight the ventilator, his oxygen level dropped, and there was some internal bleeding. The doctors increased his oxygen to as much as 90% at that point. On Sunday, 1/24, the doctors arranged for a family meeting and the decision was made to take him off the ventilator the following morning. Many of us spent the night holding his hand, stroking his hair, showing our love and simply being together with him.

The family was called in at 4 am the next morning as his condition worsened overnight. They took him off the ventilator and he passed away within a minute. He died at 10:45 am at the age of only 50.

In lieu of flowers at the service, the family asked for donations to go toward the insurmountable hospital costs. During this time of incredible grief, I’ve initiated this page to help reduce their anxiety and burden of paying those costs. All donations received will go directly toward paying all bills incurred at Emory Hospital for the almost 2 weeks he was there, over and above what insurance would not cover.

Rob was such an amazing and special man. He was so giving, creative, thoughtful and caring of all his family and friends. He had an amazing quick wit and sense of humor that was unmatched, and he made you feel like you were the only one that mattered in a crowded room. He will live on in our hearts forever. Creating this page is our small way of helping him, his family and keeping his unforgettable memory alive. I know he would do the same for us.

Sleep well, sweet Robbie, until we meet again. We love you big as the sky and beyond.

Thank you so much for anything you can donate toward our goal.

Pay Rob Treutel's Hospital Costs

Originally this fund was set up by Avondale Residents and friends to support the three families impacted by the April 12th fire on Lakeshore Drive. Mother and wife Tami Willadsen, and daughter Jess lost their lives in the fire. They were survived by husband Dave with minor burns, and son Jack, who sustained major burns. Jack is currently at a local area hospital. Other than the loss of the family cat, Chika, there were no other injuries. The Willadsen home was completely destroyed, as well personal belongings, autos, and Dave's business equipment for the business he ran out of his home. The community had asked that donations be made to assist the three families as they struggle through this difficult time. Since then, the families on each side of the Willadsen household have graciously waived their rights to any of the funds so all the funds could be used for the Willadsen family recovery. A Willadsen family representative was asked to take over as administrator of this webpage and fund. Please share the page with Avondale residents and Museum School parents, as well with friends of the Willadsen family.

Thank you for your generous donations. The outpouring of love and support has been comforting. A special thanks goes out to the Avondale Estates Community.
