In 1987, he founded The Leather Journal a groundbreaking publication created out of a simple yet powerful need, to connect us. Through news, contest coverage, club announcements, and community stories, The Leather Journal became the beating heart of leather culture across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Currently still in circulation, it remains the longest running gay publication under its original owner.

<div>David has judged over 450 leather contests, including International Mr. Leather (IML) four times, and was rightfully inducted into the Leather Hall of Fame. His vision and tireless work preserved our history, elevated our events, and helped countless people find their place in this community.

Help a Leather Legend: David Rhodes Needs Us

<p>(Disclaimer: I found writing this gofundme to be very emotional and I struggled to be concise, so thanks for taking the time to read my ramble.)

<p>My name is Magna Elmendorf and I'm reaching out because my fabulous sister, Michelle Latham, needs our help. Michelle recently went to the ER due to massive hemorrhaging and very severe edema. Among other things, she was down 5 pints of blood. Yes, I realize most people would be dead after losing 70% of their blood, but most who know her have figured out that Michelle not your average person. She survived.
</p>

<p>She may be a near medical miracle in this case, but it winds up <strong>Michelle was diagnosed with stage 3B cervical carcinoma (a type of cancer), which for her includes a nearly 11 cm, grapefruit sized tumor sitting at the top of her cervix and pressing into her abdomen. At this point the cancer has spread into her bladder and the lymph nodes closest to her uterus as well as the area in her pelvis surrounding the tumor, but has not metastasized to other parts of her body. Because of the tumor's size and the fact it's wrapped around the other organs, it's inoperable. The radiation treatments are going to do all of the work to get rid of the tumor, along with weekly chemotherapy which will act as a "booster". </strong>
</p>

<p>While she is fortunate to have medical insurance, the cost of fighting cancer is still expensive. Michelle is going into treatment on July 19th with a physical deficit -- a number of her bodily functions have been compromised as so much of her body's energy has gone to fighting cancer. That said, between the treatment and rebuilding her health, it's become clear that she will not be able to return to work through the rest of this year at the very least.
</p>

<p><strong>The goal is to raise $30k to help Michelle with her medical and related expenses while she fights cervical cancer -- so that she doesn't have another thing worry about.</strong> Stress is not anyone's friend, especially when they're fighting cancer, and we want to alleviate any stresses we can for her so that she can focus on her recovery.
</p>

<p>Michelle is one of the strongest people I know. I picked the photo of her filming on location because I think it represents the powerful woman that she is -- one who thrives when she's in control. And the only way for Michelle to get control over this cancer is to give up her control, in this case to her trusted medical and oncology teams. This is a lot of trust to give blindly, but she has assembled a stellar team of oncologists at Cedars Sinai and we feel very good about them.
</p>

<p>My sister is badass! Michelle is a beautiful human being , the best sister and friend I could ask for, a savior to the countless creatures she's fostered and owned, a mentor to numerous colleagues and friends, one of the funniest people I know -- and this is just the tip of the complimentary iceberg. You can bet that her wicked humor will be present during the treatment process (google brachytherapy for a sick laugh, her final treatment, which sounds downright barbaric), but we all know that cancer is no joke. F*ck cancer...and here's to Michelle's successful treatment!

<div>Last weekend, Lady Portia took part in a family-friendly Drag Storytime event in Belfast. The event was met with protests, and since then she has faced a week of online abuse and targeted harassment. Now, she is taking legal action to defend herself against false accusations and to stand up for the right of our community to live, work, and create without fear.

<div>Legal action is expensive. This fund is to help cover Lady Portia’s legal fees so she can focus on protecting herself and continuing her vital work in our community.

She stood for us – now we stand for Lady Portia

<div>Today marks 3 months, that our beautiful girl was admitted into the Peadiatric Intensive Care Unit in the RVH. These 3 months have been very stressful and tiring, Grace has underwent numerous scans and heart surgery. At first no one knew what Grace had, the doctors described her as a 'little puzzle' because she suddenly went from being such an energetic fun loving child to a very sick child in the space of a few days.

<div>Grace has a rare aggressive complex lymphatic anomaly that will effect her for the rest of her life. At this moment in time there is no cure for such lymphatic malfromations, but we are hopeful for her future and pray that one day there may be. Many patients suffer as due to the rarity of these diseases, doctors don't always know how best to treat them. At the beginning we were told to prepare for the worst, as she was needing alot of support from different medications and from the ventilator which was helping her breath. From that day, Grace has fought along with the doctors and nurses to save her life, which they are continuing to do. We are forever grateful for the PICU team, and how much care and love they have shown Grace. Grace has shown me how much determination and resilience a 4 year old can have, and we watch her everyday with awe and amazement at how she can wake up everyday and try to still make others smile and laugh.
</div>
<div>As parents with another young child at home, Catherine and I have spent our time, taking in turns to be by Grace's bed side.
</div>
<div>This has been a life changing experience and put added financial stress to our situation as we have been unable to work throughout this sickness. More financial stress will be added because of the care and support Grace will need when she returns home.

<div>We have been greatly supported by family and friends and cherish the love and support they have given us. This isn't a position that we have ever wanted to be in, having to ask the wider community for support. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this and who have kindly donated. This means so much to our little family as we come to terms with our new life.

<div>On August 3rd, our lives changed forever. My beloved husband, Andrew Cristillo, was tragically killed in a horrific head-on collision caused by another driver. In that moment, our three little girls, Leah, Chloe, and Ella, and I were also injured and rushed to the hospital. My daughters are now being treated at SickKids for life-altering injuries, and our hearts will always carry a void that can never be filled.

<div>Andrew was my best friend and the love of my life — the kind of partner who stood beside me through everything, making me feel loved, supported, and never alone. He was an amazing, hands-on dad to our girls, always playing with them, teaching them, and making them laugh until their cheeks hurt. Andrew had a wicked sense of humour and a way of lighting up every room he walked into — the life of the party, the friend everyone wanted by their side, the one who could make you smile even on your worst day. His greatest wish was for his family to be safe, happy, and cared for, and he worked tirelessly to give our daughters the best life and future he possibly could.

<div>On Monday morning, August 4th, a beloved member of our community was detained by <strong>ICE</strong> and is at risk of being <strong>DEPORTED</strong>. Many of you know Ester Soliman or one of her three adult children (Sanjee, Sam and Sandra). All three children grew up in Lancaster, and graduated from McCaskey High. Their mother, Ester, is well-known and active in our community!

<div>The Soliman family came here legally 25 years ago. Tragically, Ester's husband died, leaving the whole family in limbo. Ester was able to start her green card application process last year, when her youngest daughter, who is a US citizen, turned 21 became eligible to sponsor her. They have been working through the long and tedious process when Ester received a notification from ICE to appear and register for an "Alternatives to Detention" program on August 4. When she showed up for this meeting in good faith, she was detained and immediately transferred to a detention facility in Clinton County, more than two hours away. <strong>She could be deported within weeks. </strong>

<div>This is a devastating situation on many levels, and the family needs all the support and assistance we can muster as they continue to navigate this heartbreaking and complex situation. The Soliman family are going to be working with a specialized immigration attorney to fight for Ester’s freedom.

<div>My name is Hani Almadhoun, and my family and friends live in the North of Gaza, Palestine. Most aid is being blocked at the border, and there isn’t nearly enough to fight back the famine or save my loved ones. So we decided to do something about it.

<div>My brother, Mahmoud Almadhoun, and his friends volunteered to start a soup kitchen in Bait Lahia, to provide hot meals to friends and neighbors. They bought four large pots, purchased wood for the fire, and risked their lives to dig up potatoes. They also purchased tomato paste and cooking oil, and three hours later, 120 families had food for the day. The next day 150 starved families ate from the kitchen.

<div>Word spread rapidly, and the next day, even more neighbors arrived. Mahmoud sprang into action, venturing out to procure ingredients for a fresh meal. He returned with leafy greens, onions, and mushrooms, crafting a new dish that was as delightful as it was nourishing. The kitchen's capacity has now expanded to accommodate meals for up to 3000 people daily, and the numbers continue to grow. For many, this was their first substantial meal in days, and the departure from canned food was a welcomed change that filled hearts with gratitude.

<li>Additionally, they are located in the heart of the market, so they can easily spot any of these veggies and cooking essentials arriving at the market.

<li>They have also visited farms close to the Green Line to find veggies and have been lucky a few times. Once, they purchased overgrown zucchinis that should have been picked weeks ago.
</li>
<li>Mom and my sisters lovingly wake up early to peel and prep the food for the day's meals.

Unfortunately, we face a serious challenge — <strong>our school does not have an assembly hall</strong>. Without it, holding assemblies, examinations, and cultural activities becomes a struggle, especially during winter cold, intense summer heat, and heavy rains. Learners are often forced to stand outside in harsh weather, affecting their health, focus, and school experience.
