We recently received some devastating news that a huge fire broke out in my abuelitos’ backyard in their home in Guillermo Prieto, Durango Mexico. What began as an agricultural fire quickly grew out of control and destroyed years of hard work, memories, and our family’s livelihood. The fire burned through pasture, tools, machinery, trailers, and essential equipment used for our family’s agricultural work. Our abuelitos’ first truck was burned and my uncle’s car was destroyed in the fire. In total, our family lost an estimated $25,000 - $30,000 worth of equipment, vehicles, and materials, the result of years of sacrifice and labor. This backyard wasn’t just land. It was where our family worked, built their business, and created memories that will always stay with us. Losing it has been incredibly painful. We are very grateful that no one was injured. And we are extremely thankful for the entire pueblito that came together immediately to help support our abuelitos during this difficult time. At this moment, our family is working on going to go and see the damage in person and begin the process of rebuilding. We are asking for support to help repair what was lost, replace essential tools and equipment, and rebuild the work that sustained our family for so many years.
