Hi, everyone. I wanted to first thank you all for your support, condolences, thoughts, and well-wishes in this absolutely heartbreaking time. Burnie was truly one of the special ones that we were lucky enough to have known and loved for 13 years, which made saying goodbye that much harder.
We made the decision to humanely euthanize him on January 9th, 2026, due to severe rectal tears that continued to worsen and colon problems that caused fecal impactions and considerable amounts of discomfort and pain. He had originally been taken to the Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital in Madison, WI, for an acute colic, which had then revealed many more underlying issues. We decided to give him the best shot at recovery that he could have had from his wonderful, appointed veterinary team, but unfortunately, it did not pan out the way we hoped.
With all that being said, we are reaching out for any help to cover some of his outstanding veterinary bills. I know many of our fellow horse-lovers are aware, but any large-animal surgeries and intensive post-operation recovery plans can carry a hefty bill along with them. As Burnie was loved by so many, we are hoping our horse/family/friend community can provide some assistance at this time. If you can donate, we thank you so much in advance, but if you're unable to, that is completely understandable.
With love, Burnie's people.
