Support Zarianna Gallups' Fight Against Eye Cancer

<div>Hi, my name is Jim Alexander. I'm 72 years old, 100% disabled from a serious automobile accident a long while back when I was a stronger young man.

<div>I was a successful dentist after putting myself through college and dental school. I graduated a year early from each and was in practice by the age of 23. Life was going well, until a lady ran a red light and hit my car head on.
</div>

<div>After my initial recovery I tried to go back into practice, but it was way too soon. My neck and low back never recovered and the trauma of the day to day strain, sitting over patients 10 hours a day took a real toll on me
</div>

<div>Eventually my doctor's advised that I sell the practice and accept a disability status.
</div>
<div>I didn't want to give up on my dream and the ability to provide for my family. I should have listened, I never really made a strong recovery.
</div>
<div>Hardship breeds only more hardship.

<div>Soon<span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;"> I found myself all on my own. All my dreams were slipping away. But I was an optomist and felt I would recover or start a new career. I worked as a national lecturer, and also a practice consultant for a few years. But all the driving and the accumulation of chronic pain and increasing disability put an end to all of that</span>

<div><span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;">I got along okay not stressing my body daily and trying to sleep at night was alright for awhile...and then I had a stroke in bed one night. That was really a challenge to overcome, and costly as well.</span>

<div>I had good insurance early on, but quite a surprise was awaiting me. As I aged and could get less and less exercise, I became more and more week.
</div>
<div>On a first visit to a new physician, I suffered an acute coronary spasms and aortic narrowing. It was a few days short of my 65th birthday. And to my great surprise, the bigger of two disability policies "aged out"! I lost nearly $40,000 per year from then on. I was already just getting by, but that pushed me over the cliff.
</div>
<div>The economy crashed with the onset of the pandemic. And sure enough, I was the high risk senior they warned would be most at risk. And of course it hit me hard. Blood clots filled my pulmonary artery to nearly 80%. On my birthday! I had to have life saving emergency vascular surgery on my heart and surrounding blood vessels. It really knocked the wind out of my sails, and I wasn't financially able to move to a smaller home on my reduced income.  I thought cutting back on my "lifestyle" would see me through the hard times ahead. And it might have, if exactly one year later on my next birthday, a reaction to a COVID Vaccine caused blood clots to obstruct both legs, from the pelvis to my toes on both legs. I spent 15 hours in the ER with one heart attack after another the entire time. They estimated 20 of them and since the blood clots in the legs were responsible for the massive back pressure causing the heart to shudder and collapse, the decision was to therapeutically amputate both legs. 
</div>
<div>Fortunately at the last minute my vascular surgeon from the previous year vetoed the plan and set to removing the obstructions. He saved my life and my legs, but left my legs and heart very weak for the rest of my life
</div>
<div>Living on my own, trying to get along on just Social Security income and a small private disability policy was all I had to live on, and no way to earn more in my condition. Prices went up as did my rent and soon my income fell below my costs of living.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With no way to battle the economic down turn, I struggled with money every day. Until a month ago when I was evicted from the house I had lived in for many years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now I live in a one room senior efficiency apartment where boxes from moving in sit still unopened as lifting and carrying are beyond my capability. I encured a lot of expenses that moving here have yet to be replaced.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is a nice place and the only one that would take me, and my only family, my two Siberian Huskies. They are all I have to comfort me, but I need to raise money to pay off the moving expenses, and get caught up with the rent here. (It's actually more than what my old home was, but the expense covers all my utilities and meals).

<div>And<span style="font-family:inherit;font-size:1rem;color:inherit;"> here's where I need some help. I need to cover the move in costs and other left over expenses, so that my actual income will cover my new living costs and honorably see to my expenses not covered at my doctor's and hospitals. <div>Tina Gutierrez was at work on Thursday, the day after Christmas. She works at the courthouse in Ukiah (she has only been there 3 months) and has suffered a minor heart attack. She is at St. Helena waiting for open-heart surgery on Tuesday, Dec 31, 2024. The doctors think this happened because of a past heart attack that she might not have realized and genetics. She was taken by ambulance from the courthouse to Ukiah hospital, where they transported her to St. Helena, where she was told her left ventricle is not working at all.

<div>Hello, my name is James Alexander. I'm almost 70. I'm disabled and living alone on just Social Security. I was a victim of COVID complications. I've had to have 2 emergency surgeries due to rapid clotting. Last weekend was hospitalized again (3rd time) for Pulmonary Embolism, and clots in my legs. Things are serious, and the trip to the hospital pushed me into my donut hole. As a result, my Blood Thinners which I need to live are now $415 a month. I simply can't pay that. I cannot work because of the lasting effects of the damages done to my circulatory system.  I have tried all the avenues to get a copay reduction, but I don't qualify for any of them. Time is running out and so are my pills, I cannot skip my ELIQUIS.

<div>I saw my cardiologist last week to review recent tests. Things are worse than I thought. I'm being treated for kidney failure now, and my heart damage is substantial. I'll have to wait 3 months to have a cardiac cath. 
</div>
<div>I've never been afraid for my life, I'm a faith filled Christian, but he made it clear, my heart and vascular system cannot withstand another massive clotting storm. It's fish or cut bait time.
</div>
<div>I've never asked for help, I have always been the one to help, but this is not something I can do alone. This drug is $1680/a month without insurance. My insurance can only knock it down to $415/ month. In addition he added another $132/ month medicine on to my regimine of pills making it 18 different pills I must take daily.

<div>The Mendocino County community mourns the loss of Greg Schindel, the cherished Skunk Train Singer, who passed away on June 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Greg was not only a local legend but also a beloved figure among tourists visiting Fort Bragg, California.

<div>For over a year, Greg fought valiantly against his illness, during which the community rallied to support him and his family. Fundraisers, gatherings, and heartfelt gestures of solidarity became a testament to the deep affection and respect the community held for him. His wife and family received an outpouring of support as friends and neighbors came together, hoping for his recovery.

<div>Greg Schindel's legacy is deeply intertwined with the Skunk Train, where his music brought joy to countless passengers. Tourists from near and far delighted in the surprise of encountering the Skunk Train Singer, whose array of instruments and enchanting performances created unforgettable memories. His talent and warm spirit also inspired his son, Malakai, who carries forward his musical heritage.

<div>Although Greg wasn’t always the Train Singer, his impact on the community spans decades. Before creating the beloved character, “Mr. Schindel” was adored by hundreds of elementary school children as the Visual and Performing Arts Director for the Willits Unified School District. He continued to perform at educational assemblies and museums throughout Northern California, sharing his love of music and the arts with young audiences.

<div>Greg received his early education at a boarding school in Exeter, New Hampshire, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State University. In the 1960s and 70s, he was active in the Southern California music scene, developing his unique style of "Northern California Transcendental Folk Jazz." As the lead singer and songwriter for the musical group "Kindred Souls," Greg crafted thoughtful lyrics about life in the country, love, and personal experiences.

<div>True to his heart, Greg fell in love and started a family, which he regarded as his greatest accomplishment. Over the years, his family grew, and his musical talent blossomed into the multifaceted character beloved by so many today.

<div>In June 2023, the Skunk Train demonstrated their unwavering support for Greg by donating all ticket sales and concessions to aid in his cancer treatments. This act of kindness highlighted the profound bond between Greg and the Skunk Train family.

<div>According to his website, trainsinger. com, Greg’s music has the power to make you feel good deep in your soul. He continued to write original music, overlaying his amazing voice with meaningful words and the haunting tones of harmonica over his own guitar strumming. Among his creations are train songs, including the fun and lively “Whoopie! What a Ride.”

<div>Accompanied by his quick guitar-picking fingers, autoharp, and six harmonicas (including the World’s Tiniest Harmonica), Greg’s commanding voice projected a diverse collection of train songs, interactive chants, and ballads about the dangers of life on the railroad. Greg Schindel created Train Singer in 1988, a character that has become an integral part of his legacy.

<div>Additionally, the congregation of St. Francis in the Redwoods Episcopal Church had been blessed with his leadership as the director of hymns and music since 1988. Greg’s contributions have been described as “the heart of the congregation,” sending up praises in song.

<div>Greg’s most recent endeavor was hosting his own radio show, “Bipolar Express,” on KLLG 97.9 in Willits, CA. Known for his engaging personality, Greg provided commentary on relevant topics and music every week, leaving listeners in stitches of laughter. The show aired over 150 episodes, showcasing his enduring talent and connection to the community.

TRAIN SINGER GREG SCHINDEL HAS FINISHED HIS JOURNEY

<font color="#333333">Louise and Jerry Phillips have been long time residents of Redwood Valley California. On the afternoon of July 7th, a wildfire swept through their neighborhood and destroyed their home, garage and every outbuilding on their property.  They had only a few moments to gather a couple items and evacuate before their home and property were destroyed.  The home and property have been in the family for over 70 years.  They raised their six children and made so many memories there.  They lost all the contents of their home and the many irreplaceable mementoes from their lifetime at the property.  <br /><br />Jerry was a local business owner for decades, where he repaired all types of musical instruments for the public as well as local schools.  He taught music for many folks over the years and played in several jazz bands locally.  <br /><br />Louise has spent many years working at the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and a favorite to all who work there or have occasion to conduct business there.  Before working there, she was a teacher and mentor to countless children at Deep Valley Christian School.  She has also been an active member at the Redwood Valley Community Church for decades, where she enjoys teaching Sunday School and volunteering in so many other ways. <br /><br />This fund is meant to raise money to help Louise and Jerry get back on their feet, following their loss of their homes and belongings.  They are friends to so many in the community and any assistance would be greatly appreciated. <br /><br />Update:<br />Jerry and Louise are so moved by the outpouring of support from the community, friends and coworkers!   Thank you so much to all who have donated to help them get back on their feet!</font>

The Willits Children’s Christmas Program is sponsored by the Willits Rotary Club and coordinated and co-sponsored by the Willits Wild Bunch, Inc. The Program is set up to assist needy families in the Willits area and to supply gifts of toys, food and clothing to children who would not have a Christmas without this program. During a normal year, the Willits Wild Bunch, Inc., sponsors and coordinates the Willits Toy Run which this year will be the 28th Annual Run.  During a normal year The Run is attended by hundreds of motorcycle riders and members of the Willits Community. A large gathering is held at Little Lake Grange where music, food, a huge raffle and a live auction take place. Toys are donated by the attendees and money is raised through the raffle and auction. But this is not a normal year…The Run will take place with modifications…It will be held outdoors and social gathering protocols will be in place at a Toy Drop Off location.<br /><br />We have launched this GoFundMe page for donations since a raffle and live auction which is always generously supported by our local businesses, will not be part of this year's Run because of the social distancing restrictions. The money is used to help obtain toys and clothing for the children to supplement the toy donations from The Toy Run. She will under go 5 months of chemotherapy, followed by a mastectomy, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy and possibly radiation treatment.<br /><br />She is a mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and so much more to those who know her. She is a wonderful joyful person inside and out who does so much for others and now it is our turn to help her. <br /><br />With two precious children at home-Vada (8) and Penelope (5) Courtney and her husband James have so much to fight for.<br /><br />We are all devastated by this sudden news and are asking for your support to assist with impending medical and living expenses as Courtney will be working  part time for now and James may have to take leave from work to help care for Courtney and the girls.<br /><br />Please take a moment to consider donating to this amazing family as no contribution is too small to make an impact.

If you are familiar to her journey than you know she is no stranger to chemo or stem cell transplants and completed treatment in 2013. She will be starting this journey over again with the endpoint being an allogenic stem cell transplant and remission from cancer. <br />This time it will be different. Between remission in 2013 and her reoccurrence Cierra fulfilled her ultimate dream of becoming a mom. The last 16 months have been pure bliss for Cierra and her husband Ricky but that dream will look a little different with Cierra in the hospital for a month and then needing to relocate to the city to continue to receive treatment for another 3 months. Ideally they would like to stay together as a family but a hospital is no place for a toddler. While Cierra is battling for her health away from home, Ricky wants to battle for normalcy for their young son and take time off work to be with him at home when he is not at Cierras side. <br />Every young family struggles but this is above and beyond what many young families endure. They say it takes a village; let’s rally around this young family and honor their plight for a strong, loving family and help ease Cierras mind as she goes through such a difficult time.

Hernandez Family Fund

Our precious Kaylee Maddisyn Loehr, age seven, passed away February 1, 2017 despite the best of medical care after suffering sudden respiratory arrest three days earlier. This fund has been established to assist with final expenses and to celebrate Miss Kaylee's life.<br /><br />Kaylee was a gift to this world and anyone who was able to share the experience of her company would agree it was truly their privilege. You see, Kaylee had Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy and was not physically able to do many things that you or I might take for granted, like walk or scratch our own nose.<br /><br />She overcame numerous challenges in her short life, exhibiting a level of strength and perseverance hardly expected of any human being, let alone a seven year-old. Kaylee was sweet, kind, and wise beyond her years. She aspired to do great things. She was a daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. An angel on earth and now in Heaven.<br /><br />Any help during this most difficult time is appreciated. Funds will be dispersed to and final expenses handled by Kaylee's grandmother, Phyllis Bean.

My name is Brad Walton and I am the 2015-2016 President of the Willits Rotary Club in Northern California.  Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio for the past 30 years and we are nearly there!  Currently, polio is only endemic in two countries. It is imperative that we work to raise funds for this cause because we need to continue immunizing children for at least three years after the last case of polio has been diagnosed in a country.  My quest is to help Rotary reach that goal by raising funds for the cause through a bicycle ride across country this summer.  I will ride my bicycle from San Francisco, California to Williamsburg, Virginia, 3760 miles.  I am asking for donations per mile, or a flat donation to  fund this important cause.  Please help!

Pedal for Polio

Hello!<br /><br />This campaign is to fund assisted care personnel for my parents, <strong>Dick and Kathy Sherman</strong>, so they can remain together and in their own home. They need assisted care in their home. Here's their story.<br /><br />Dad and Mom have been married for nearly 64 years. When they first married, Dad entered youth ministry when he was 21 (with Youth for Christ in Toledo, OH) and they later moved to the Bay Area (San Jose, CA) where he was the Tri-County YFC director in the late 50s-early 60s. Dad then became a youth minister at The Valley Church in Cupertino, CA, where he stayed until the early 70s, and where he directed the high school and college kids in "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," which toured up and down California. He helped start a new church, The West Valley Bible Fellowship, in the early 70s, and he pastored that church until 1985, when it closed its doors. It was at Valley that Dad first heard about Francis Schaeffer, and then at the Fellowship where he wrote the study guides to two of Schaeffer's films (Reclaiming the World and The Great Evangelical Disaster). After the Fellowship, Dad went to work for Orchard Supply Hardware in corporate training, and he stayed with them until he retired in 1997. Throughout this time, Mom was the consummate wife and homemaker, making sure us kids were where we needed to be and on time, cooking meals, keeping the house running smoothly, etc. She was always there for us when we needed her.<br /><br />During all that time, Dad and Mom cared and provided for a growing family (5 children). All the years he was in the ministry, Dad never had any retirement set aside. When he was pastor of the Fellowship,  he also ran a landscaping business on the side to make ends meet, especially during the lean times when the Fellowship was out of money.  During all those years, we never heard Dad or Mom complain about money or the lack thereof. They just made do with what they had; and we always had food on the table and good clothes for school and church. It was part of their Iowa and Great Depression upbringing that enabled them to take what they had and make it last and make it work.<br /><br />Well, now it's time for us kids to pay them back. Over the last several years, Mom has developed dementia and she is now in need of 24/7 care. Dad can't do it all. He has tried, but it is too much work. He also recently had rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder, so he will be in recuperation for at least 6 months. My brother Tim and one of my sisters, Melodee, have been tag-team staying with them, caring for them, but they are both worn out also, and they have their own families. We (my siblings--Patty, Melodee, Tim, Becky, and I) need to bring in professional care-givers who can assist with the daily needs of living. <br /><br />Dad and Mom vowed to each other that they would be cared for at home until they repose. Mom, Dad, and I are Orthodox,  which means that we know  that all that happens to us is for our salvation and benefit. We trust in the Lord and look forward to our going home to Him. <br /><br />Our knowledge and faith, however, don't pay the bills. We must do that. So, I, the youngest of the five kids, am appealing to you to give a little bit so that Mom and Dad, Dick and Kathy Sherman, can remain together in their little home in Scio, OR, and can live in dignity together. Whatever amount you can give will go entirely to their care. I will not take a dime. All funds will be used to pay for professional care-givers to attend to my parents' needs. <br /><br />Although I don't think we would ever raise a million dollars, should that happen, any funds in excess of providing the needed assisted-care for my parents would be donated to Alzheimer's research and/or a similar family in need.<br /><br />Thank you, and may God bless you for your almsgiving.

Dick and Kathy Sherman Care Fund

The Basket Beaters Disc Golf Club is a group of men and women who participate in the sport of disc golf at recreational and competitive professional levels on the different courses here in Mendocino County. Disc golf, also known as Frolf or frisbee golf, is a flying disc game, as well as a precision and accuracy sport, in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target.<br /><br />The sport has really grown here in Mendocino County. Currently the Brooktrails Golf course is a beautiful 9-hole "Ball Golf" course which is played not only by members of our club, but by many members of the community and surrounding areas, as well as by many tourists. Over the past few months our club has set up temporary courses for playing disc golf with great success and many visitors from as far away as San Jose and Sacramento. A disc golfer always checks where the local courses are when they are traveling, so disc golf courses have become real magnets for out of town visitors. <br /><br />With the help of out community in the cause, Basket Beaters Disc Golf Club is offering promotional opportunities to local businesses to become official course sponsors.
