<div>Network Rail is currently considering letting the local community paint a mural to brighten the tunnel under the train line on Park Grove — but unfortunately, the footpath leading through it remains in terrible condition. As this is an unadopted road, neither the council nor Network Rail is responsible for its upkeep, even though many people rely on it every day.

<div>In winter, the route becomes heavily waterlogged and covered in mud, making it unpleasant and sometimes unsafe to use. Although a few paving flags were added several years ago, they only provide limited help.

<div>Local residents have shown great support for improving the path, and together we hope to fund the delivery and installation of several tonnes of gravel to create a safer, more accessible walkway.

URGENT APPEAL- Going from "evacuate" to "living"

<div><strong>This is Alana’s story (Written by Alana's Mum, Kate):</strong>

</div>
<div><em>In 2015 we were pregnant with our second child. Having not been able to find out the gender at the 20 week scan we paid for a private scan at 31 weeks. In that scan we found out she was a girl and it showed a large dark shadow in the brain and we were referred directly to a Foetal Assessment Clinic in a Dublin Maternity Hospital. </em>
</div>

<div><em>The team asked if I had fallen down stairs or had a car accident as it looked as if there was significant bleeding in the baby's brain. I had not experienced anything like that and had a healthy, happy pregnancy. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>The following weeks I had an MRI to scan the baby's brain more closely and we were seen weekly. We were told that this baby had a devastating brain injury from what they could only conclude was a spontaneous haemorrhage in the brain which was leading to fluid build up which was in turn creating massive pressure on the brain and inhibiting it from growth in certain key areas. </em>

<div><em>We were told that she would be highly unlikely to survive delivery. We made choices to carry her to full term and make the safest option of delivery possible in order to give her as good a chance of life as possible. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>She was delivered safely by elective section at 37 weeks. We baptised her in the hospital with all our families around us. We spent a week in hospital with all family members visiting to meet her and show her love and there was no expectation that we would leave hospital with a baby so we had not got anything ready at home. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>We had prepared our 2 year old son for a short time with a baby sister. We called her Alana (which means little girl in Irish) and gave her the middle name Talitha, which is also little girl in Aramaic and is something Jesus said to a little girl in the bible, 'Little girl, get up' and she was raised from the dead. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Amazingly by the end of the first week she was alive and feeding well. Her head was beginning to swell and was very soft all over. We took her home but were told to expect her to die still and so nested with her every day, limiting who held her so that we would not regret a single minute with her. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>She lived to one month old with a strong body and will to live and feed in every way except her increasingly growing and swelling head. This meant she had to have her first brain surgery. She was now diagnosed with hydrocephalus, water on the brain, which was building up in pressure and needed to be relieved via a brain shunt/drain in her head. This surgery was successful and her head began to reduce in size. </em>
</div>

</div>
<div><em>We then discovered that she had been having seizures during this time and that she was unable to see. Amazingly she is now 8 years old. She has had numerous further brain surgeries for her shunt and her severe seizures which have now been diagnosed as epilepsy. She is also cortically visually impaired, which means she cannot see anything due to the brain injury. She is unable to do anything for herself, though she does have full control of her limbs. She speaks very clearly, albeit not in direct or necessarily relatable conversations. </em>
</div>

</div>
<div><em>She takes multiple medications a day to manage these things and for many years took them well orally along with solid food. But in the last few years feeding and medicating her had become very difficult and was affecting her development, her stress levels (and ours) and her medications. So she had surgery to insert a PEG feeding tube last summer to give her food and medications consistently. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>That has been very successful and effective. She is a happier child with regular food, her seizures are well managed with regular medication and improved nutrition. And she has grown. A lot. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>That means she is no longer as easy to pick up like a baby. She is now a 25 kg 8 year old girl. We now need to manage lifting her differently and that means getting a hoist for her and a wetroom bathroom so she can be washed and go to the toilet. </em>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>We have planning permission for an extension to her bedroom to do both those things but the cost is much higher than we expected. We have only half the money for the build which was quoted at €110,000.</em>

<div>My name is David Challen and I am a child bereaved of fatal domestic abuse. After experiencing a lifetime of coercive control, in 2010, my mother Sally Challen, killed my father in the family home. She was jailed for 22 years for his murder. A decade later, and after years of fighting and campaigning, her murder conviction was quashed in a landmark appeal – <strong><em>her story gave voice to the insidious nature of coercive control to countless victims and survivors</em></strong>. When coercive control became an offence in 2015, it in turn gave me a voice to speak out about what I witnessed in the family home.

</div>
<div><strong>The Impact of Media Reporting on Domestic Abuse Murders</strong>
</div>
<div>My father’s killing impacted me deeply as a young man.<strong> </strong>Yet, what traumatised me the most was how the media reported these events at the time<strong>.</strong> Images of my parents pilfered from their social media accounts and composited together, as if sat together, felt violating. Personal family images of my father were obtained without consent from our family and made me feel like they were ripping my life and memories up in front of me, in my darkest moments.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The words of people who hadn’t met or barely knew my father were plastered across headlines, calling him a <em>‘gentle man’ and a ‘really nice chap’. </em>This denied the controlling reality that I, and many family members, witnessed. Sensationalist headlines retraumatised me all over again.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This week, I have seen similar headlines used to refer to the man who has killed Louise, Carol and Hannah Hunt.<strong> </strong>He’s been called ‘<em>pretty normal</em>’ and a ‘<em>nice guy’</em>. I’ve seen images of one of the victims sat next to the perpetrator. It must stop. I know how much damage this reporting causes – both to victims’ families, and to public understandings of how coercive control truly operates.
</div>

</div>
<div><strong>The Need for Change in Media Reporting</strong>
</div>
<div>There is a desperate need for dignity in reporting fatal domestic abuse. Families bereaved of these events are retraumatised time after time. <strong>That’s why we need to ensure every single newsroom is trained in how to report domestic abuse deaths, and to lobby the regulator for stronger rules.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Fatal domestic abuse is a predictable public health problem that the media plays a key role in preventing with accurate, sensitive reporting. These deaths never come out of the blue – they are always an endpoint to a sustained period of coercive control. <strong>We need a media industry that recognises this and reports it as such.</strong>
</div>

<div><strong>About Level Up</strong>
</div>
<div>Level Up is a feminist campaigns organisation in the UK. Working with victims’ families and criminologists, Level Up created the UK’s first media guidelines on reporting domestic abuse: <em>‘Dignity for Dead Women’.</em> Level Up calls for accountability for perpetrators, and dignity for victims and their families. These guidelines are endorsed by both UK press regulators, but we need to make sure every newsroom in the country is fully trained – and we need to keep lobbying the regulator for stronger rules.

Research has shown that articles that romanticise domestic abuse murders lead to more empathy for perpetrators than victims. <div>One week after the start of the war in Gaza, Hanni and his family had to evacuate their home due to heavy bombing in his neighbourhood. They headed to Khan Younis to stay with a relative, where they would then share a 16 meter squared house with 70 others. They spent 2 months living in Khan Younis, a place they were told to move to in order to be ‘safe’ but as the air strikes continued, the conditions in Khan Younis got so bad, they were forced to evacuate again.

<div>Due to the overpopulation in Rafah, Hanni and his family had to be separated into 3 groups. Hanni’s Wife Nadia is with their 2 daughters, 2 of their sons are together and then Hanni is with the remaining family in a different location in Rafah, travelling 4kilomAfter everything they have lived through for the past 5 months, to then be separated and unable to really communicate, the family is finding it incredibly painful and we just want to see them reunited.

<div>Since moving to Rafah, Hanni has been made aware that their beloved family home is now nothing more than rubble. They have lost everything they owned, everything they bought and everything they built. Outside of Raffa, they have no home to return to.

<div>On 16 June 2022 our 19-year-old daughter Amelia (Mia) Dean was attacked by a Bison while hiking in Custer State Park in South Dakota and we are fundraising so that she can receive the best treatment possible for her injury.
</div>

<div>Mia, a friend and his wolf-dog, whilst only on the second day of a month long road trip across the USA, were walking on a trail in Custer State Park, coming to the end of their walk, they climbed a hill and came across a large, male bison in the middle of their path. The bison appeared unconcerned, happy to graze and ignore them, so, after much discussion, they decided to skirt around the bison, aiming not to disturb him. After returning to the path, about 100 yards from the bison, he stopped eating and looked up, examining Mia’s friend, and his dog (who was on a harness) and Mia, before suddenly charging at her. Mia was shocked into stillness, the bison halting directly in front of her. The two staring at each other for a few seconds before the bison surged forwards, gorging her in the left thigh with his horn, and throwing her head over heels about 10-15 feet in the air. When she hit the ground Mia was trapped, unable to move her bleeding leg, with the bison huffing directly over her, his feet by her head for some time, and continued to stand near her for some time before Mia’s friend managed to lead him away.

<div>Mia sustained a completely severed femoral artery from the incident and severe damage to both her tibial and peroneal nerves (part of the sciatic nerve). We are beyond fortunate that our daughter is still breathing, as she should have bled out in 2-8 minutes after the severed artery and the ambulance didn’t arrive for 20 minutes. It is a miracle that she is alive today. We believe that God put a veil of protection over Mia.
</div>
<div>The staff at Rapid City Hospital have been like a second family and have done everything they can at this point, saving both Mia’s life and leg, performing a bypass of the femoral artery. However, as the artery and muscle damage is healing, Mia is still suffering from severe nerve pain, numbness and hypersensitivity, paralysis and limited mobility below the knee, being unable to walk without walking aids, and managing only about 20 yards. Mia will need a least one operation to have a chance at regaining full motion, and Rapid City Hospital, despite their amazing work on Mia’s injury does not have the expertise nor equipment to properly examine and treat the nerve injury. At this point the full extent of the damage has not even been examined, but EMG and MRI investigations have indicated that this is a highly complex injury, the tibial nerve has been fully severed, the peroneal has been trisected (split down the middle), as well as both being partially shredded and crushed. No treating doctors feel comfortable indicating that Mia is safe to fly, and the peripheral nerve specialist from Mayo Clinic states that he cannot make any real assessments until he has personally seen her.

<div>Mia is English and whilst her travel insurance has paid so far for the femoral artery bypass they are refusing to pay for even the initial examination by the specialist of her nerve injury. Mayo clinic, a world-class hospital in the peripheral nerve field (a very niche field), has accepted Mia as a referral from Rapid City Hospital. Mia’s injury is complicated in the first place, including both the vascular and nerve injury, but the nerve damage itself is also complex and extensive. This could be Mia’s best chance to regain control of her foot, and time is running out. The initial tests alone cost around $8,000, not including transport, accommodation and other expenses, the later flights home, or any possible surgeries needed. We are therefore asking to raise money to allow Mia to receive at least the initial testing and possible surgery at Mayo clinic.

<div>Before the accident Mia had been accepted to Edinburgh university, she was going to start in September 2022 having decided to take a year out to work, explore and travel. She is a bright and active young woman, our youngest child and only girl, who is only just beginning her adult life. She has been incredibly strong throughout this whole process, coming close to death, continuing to suffer now and yet still remaining positive. Since she was little she has had a passion for dance, and we can still remember her joy on getting her first pointe shoes and our inability to get her to take them off. As well as having a sense of adventure, love for life and people, she worked for half the year to save the money to go backpacking.

<div>Perez is a gentle, doting father who lives in Manchester with his two young children, C (3) and S (4). The children's mum and Perez's wife, Gloria, is in Uganda and desperately wants to come and live with her husband and children. Sadly, Perez is extremely ill, he has sickle cell anaemia, pulmonary embolism, pancreatitis, DVT along with another, more troubling disease, has recently suffered a stroke and frequently needs hospital care. When this happens, he relies on the kindness of his friends to help look after the children. However, if those friends are unavailable, Perez cannot go to hospital and has to remain at home, seriously poorly while continuing to do his best for his two young children. Perez's health is deteriorating and him relying on friends for childcare is not sustainable.

<div>The children are already having nightmares about their dad not being there when they wake up and witnessing the only parent that lives with them being so ill is having a hugely negative impact on their emotional health. They are now looking at the possibility of having to go in to emergency foster care if Perez becomes too ill to look after them. Perez is trying to get a visa for his wife/ the children's mum to come to the UK and has a charity who are helping him with this, but it is an extremely lengthy process and we need her and she wants to be here as soon as possible. The quickest way to solve the visa issue is to pay; this would be £1,538 for the visa and £1,872 for the NHS surcharge, and Perez has no way of funding it. I have asked dozens of charities if they can assist but none are able to do so. This is why we are asking for your help.

<div>The craniocervical fusion surgery and posterior fossa decompression surgery that Jenny had in January 2020 have had a devastating and dangerous outcome. She has been left even more severely disabled and in a relentless intense state of suffering, unable to move her neck and head because it isn’t safe.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>What is wrong?</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jenny has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which is a genetic disorder that causes her to produce faulty collagen. A lot of the human body is made up of collagen so it affects many systems. The biggest problem for Jenny is that the faulty collagen causes the ligaments and connective tissue in her neck to be lax, which means that it can’t support the spine. So the vertebrae and skull move around and subluxate (subluxation is like dislocation). This means that she has CCI (craniocervical instability) and AAI (atlanto-axial instability).
</div>

</div>
<div>Jenny’s operation in January was meant to help support the skull and vertebrae below so that they didn’t move around anymore. Other people with M.E. have found that they have the same structural problems and when their instabilities were fixed with a fusion, they were also cured of their M.E. and their reduced blood flow (due to the structural problems), returned to normal when the structure was fixed, and so they instantly had their energy back. So not only was Jenny expecting to wake up from surgery with her life saved from having the structural problems fixed, she thought the severe M.E. would potentially be gone too. Neither of these things happened. In fact, her neck became more destabilised, not only at the fusion site but in additional places all the way down, and the M.E. got worse because the operation blocked the place where she was managing to get a bit more blood through to her head. We all have been devastated.

<div>What we’ve found out is that, unfortunately, Jenny’s fusion didn’t involve intraoperative traction, which is necessary in some EDS patients to make the fusion effective and curative. Before the operation she should have been tested with invasive cranial traction, where bolts are attached to the skull and then the skull is lifted incrementally by a machine to determine the exact amount of traction that is needed in the fusion and to determine exactly where the skull needs to be placed in surgery. We did not know this before and this test was not done.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A brilliant EDS-experienced neurosurgeon in America, has proposed what needs to be done for Jenny now, though there are no guarantees. The “fix” that he proposes involves:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>1. Removal of the hardware (the metal plate, rods and screws) from the surgery in January.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>2. Use bolt traction testing to find the exact amount of intra-operative traction needed and the position to place the skull in.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>3. Redo the craniocervical fusion, using his own technique (condylar screw fixation) and using the results of the traction testing to place Jenny’s skull and neck in the correct position with the right amount of traction.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately the fusion in January has caused extra structural problems in the vertebrae beneath the fusion, as well as a suspected tethered cord, so the “fix” above might not solve all the additional problems. These things won’t be able to be determined until Jenny actually gets to the hospital in America and the neurosurgeon does all his various tests and figures out exactly what has happened in her neck and if/what other surgery is needed too. Obviously we need to have the money ready for these surgeries too, as well as raising money for the the three invasive surgeries involved in the “fix”. There would be a gap between the “fix” and any additional surgery that Jenny may need, so we also need to raise the money to stay in America for months, somewhere with a hospital bed for Jenny (and potentially nursing care, depending on what state she’s in after the surgeries), between the “fix” and whatever other surgery might be needed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We also need to raise money for Medevac flights to and from America, as that is the only way that Jenny can be transported. It will be very risky for Jenny to be transported at all in her current condition. We also need to raise money for intense rehabilitation and physiotherapy that will be needed afterwards too.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>American healthcare is notoriously expensive with lots of hidden costs. We have been given quotes for some of the procedures and other costs but we’ve been told that until Jenny gets there to hospital, we won’t know precisely what money we need to have available. The sum of money that we’re trying to raise involves our best guesses and estimates for the rest. What we don’t want to happen is to get to America and the neurosurgeon to recommend something that we can’t afford and just be stuck. The amount of money feels overwhelming. It is the only hope that Jenny has though. She is worth it.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jenny recently had to go to the NHS, after we had to call 999 as she couldn’t breathe because a vertebra in her neck moved and almost completely obstructed her airway. She stayed five days in hospital and there was nothing the NHS could do for her. They don’t have the specialist knowledge, expertise or experience of this. There are only a handful of neurosurgeons in the whole world who have this specialism. None of whom are in the NHS or in this country.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jenny is at death’s door and is trying so hard to stay alive. It feels impossible that she can survive a few more days or weeks like this, let alone the months it might take to raise the money. She is deteriorating constantly. She cannot support her head or neck since the operation and has been horizontal with her head supported by a pillow ever since. She hasn’t been able to move off that pillow since the operation.
</div>

</div>
<div>Ever since the operation, there are massive cracks, snaps and clunks from her neck and skull that are accompanied by a movement/subluxation in her vertebrae/skull and they are left in a new position and structure. Each crack is pulling her further in a particular direction.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Her skull is being pulled downwards and inwards so hard (this is either being caused by a tethered cord or not enough traction) and being jammed into other hard things in her neck, which is intensely painful and unsafe. Whenever she tries to pull her head up and out a little from where it has sunk, the skull just rolls and slides by itself, pinging back down with a force she can’t stop. There is probably severe cranial settling resulting from this vertical AAI.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jenny can’t even move a millimetre anymore without a massive crack/subluxation/snap and accompanying movement, without vertebrae being pulled out of their correct position. She can’t move the rest of her body because that causes her head and neck to move or wobble, which causes more cracks and subluxation. She can’t have anyone (or herself) touch her neck or head because even the tiniest amount of pressure against it causes the vertebrae to move wrongly and go further inwards and the skull to sublux, popping inwards.
</div>

</div>
<div>Due to her not being able to have anyone touch her and due to not being able to access the back of her head (because both are too dangerous), and due to not being able to lift her head or roll onto her side, nurses and caters haven’t been able to wash her hair since January 2020.. It’s awful for her and we wish we could help her but we’re just left helpless. When she was in hospital, they weren’t able to wash her hair either. It’s hard to be a carer and not be able to meet her basic care needs because it would kill her.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jenny used to be able to raise her hospital bed up at an angle with her head and neck supported by the bed and sit like that for a few hours. Now, it’s extremely dangerous for her to raise the bed as the movement causes further damage and deterioration to her neck. It can cause catastrophic changes. Now, she has to try to raise the bed at an angle once every day for as long as it takes to try and get some food down her and then quickly go down again. It’s very unstable and her skull slides off her neck and her neck slides off her shoulders when she’s raised up; the pillow can’t seem to support her head or neck and her skull appears flattened from the piece of skull that was removed for the decompression surgery. Her skull just slips and slides and sinks down the pillow, jamming down on something it shouldn’t be and also cuts off air more. The neck pain is overwhelming (worse than immediately after surgery). Using the bedpan is dangerous too (even though she has to do it while fully lying down, sliding it under her by lifting her hips up; it still moves her head too much). She also now has frequent urinary incontinence since the operation.

<div>It feels like an impossible amount of money to raise but, as Jenny has communicated to us, she’d rather try and fail than not try at all. She would rather die trying than just slowly die doing nothing.
</div>

</div>
<div>In full transparency, the neurosurgeon has warned us that there are no guarantees of a successful outcome and that the outcome of good clinical results are less likely than it would be if it were her first surgery. But she can’t be left suffering this intensely. She can’t be left like this. Every second is unbearable; she can’t cope. We need to try to fix it. This is the only option left to us. We need a miracle to raise this kind of money. Any contribution, however small or large, we’d be eternally grateful for.

<div>She has been severely ill and bed-bound for 20 years after suddenly becoming ill in her first term at university. She’s been diagnosed with very severe, multi-systemic Myalgic Encephalomyelitis for most of this time but it wasn’t until 2015 that she was also diagnosed with EDS and it wasn’t until May 2017 that she began to get overt symptoms of instability of the cervical spine and atlas, with numbness, temporary paralysis, lymphatic fluid stagnation and severely impaired blood supply to her head, neck and later, the whole body. In October 2018 she was diagnosed with AAI (atlantoaxial instability) and CCI (craniocervical instability), which have continued to deteriorate. The reduced blood and lymph circulation to the whole body has continued to diminish as a result.

<p>Hello everyone,<br /><br /><br />It is with a heavy heart to announce that our beloved sister, aunty , wife , mother,  work colleague and friend Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong (Mary Mo) has sadly left us to be with the Lord.<br /><br /><br />Mary was a blessing to everyone she came across and her love, care and sincerity will be irreplaceable. <br /><br />I am raising this funds for her immediate family; her husband, AJ and her baby girl little Mary, who was born at the time of her demise. <br /><br />It is humane for us to take care of them in every way we can during this heavy and trying time.<br /><br /><br />The funds raised would be a starting point to support them financially by setting up a Trust Fund for her children. <p><strong style="font-size:1.0625rem;">On Wednesday 22nd April I will be taking on the National 3Peaks challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike, the highest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England. Because I am staying safe at home, I will actually be doing it  by climbing the equivalent height of 3408 metres up my stairs, that’s  1243 times up and down.</strong>

National 3Peaks  for Cameroon

We are Support Workers from Alternative Futures Group, fundraising for our UNISON hardship fund to support us as we have been forced to take industrial action against brutal pay cuts. <br /><br />Our employer is no longer paying us minimum wage levels for so-called 'sleep-in' shifts, meaning we will be struggling to make ends meet.<br /><br />We love our jobs and believe we are worth at least National Minimum Wage for the important and challenging work we do caring for the most vulnerable in society.<br /><br />As carers, taking strike action is not easy for us and especially when we are already struggling financially. Care At Night, Pay Us Right!

My name is Dave Smith. I am the founder of the Boaz Trust in Manchester, that provides accommodation for destitute asylum seekers and refugees. <br /><br />Sankar Bannerjee is 78 years old. He was a community activist in India. He fled to the UK in 2004 after receiving death threats from Communist Party officials. Not knowing anything about claiming asylum, Sankar lived for several years in London. When he eventually found out about asylum, he made a claim, which was refused. <br /><br />He was destitute and homeless on the streets of Manchester when he was referred to the Boaz Trust,. That is when I first met him, as I was then director of the trust.  We found a room for him in one of our houses, and supported him in practical ways. Legal help enabled him to put in a fresh asylum claim. In 2012 he was given three years Discretionary Leave to Remain in the UK because of his age and poor health. This was renewed for a further three years in 2015.<br /><br />In April this year Sankar will be eligible for Indefinite Leave, meaning he will be able to stay permanently, safe from danger and worry in his old age, but... in the meantime the UK government has massively increased the cost of indefinite leave, which is now £2,297 per person. Sankar, who is living on pension credits, has saved up a few hundred pounds, but has no means of finding that amount by April. <br /><br />Sankar suffers, among other things, from high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, depression, heart and thyroid problems, meaning he is on 14 different medications. <br /><br />He has not seen his wife, who is 64 years old, for nearly fourteen years.<br /><br />Will you help him to gain indefinite leave, so he can begin the process of reunification with his wife, and live his final years in peace, security and comfort?<br /><br />When we have enough funds, I will help Sankar to write the application for Indefinite Leave. We will get it checked by a law centre for free (saving £500-600 solicitor's fees for doing the application). Then, with the money Sankar has saved, we will send a cheque for £2,297 along with the application..<br /><br />If there is any money left over, Sankar will be able to,put that towards the costs of reunification with his wife.

He met everyone with the utmost kindness and respect because those are just some of the many common threads that exist across every faith in our world. This fundraiser has been launched by myself (Jen) and friends (Lauran, Ellanor &amp; Katie) who are all local residents in Shawlands and regular customers of Asad's. As a resident of Waverley Garden's for over 2 years, I personally got to know him whilst visiting his shop on almost a daily basis.<em> <br /><br /></em>Mr Shah was a popular, well respected and much loved member of our commuity and his death has devastated many. He was a warm and friendy man and he always went out of his way to make time to talk to you - he was more than just our local shopkeeper. He was a friend to many.<br /><br />It quickly became clear to us in the aftermath of this tragedy that the people of Shawlands (and wider) were looking for a way to show their support to Asad's family and we thought this would be a fitting way to do so. <br /><br />We are raising funds for his family to use in whatever way they see most fitting - whether that be to contribute towards funeral expenses, provide financial security for his family in the coming months, or simply to do something in his memory.
