My husband Robin has been bravely fighting highly aggressive prostate cancer. And our family continues to face the challenges that come with his ongoing fight. Robin has undergone surgery and radiation, which have deeply affected his daily life. He now manages daily side effects that require special supplies.
Recently, after Robin was bleeding for over a month, I did some research and a PA confirmed to us that Robin has Radiation Cystitis. Robin had to have another CT scan done, and then he had another scope and a biopsy done to his bladder. We will have to keep a watch on that from now on especially when it flares up. Robin also has a reconstructive surgery consultation that we had to reschedule that quite a few times because of the Radiation Cystitis flaring up and out of pocket cost. We finally went to appointment and then back again for Surgeon to do a bladder scope to see if Robin was a good candidate for surgery.
We are hoping that once he has the surgery, it will give Robin some relief and sense of some kind of normalcy. Also it would help along with the cost of supplies that entails without having the surgery.
We still return regularly to specialist Doctor for blood work to check his PSA levels and he has to do scans to keep an eye on the cancer, monitoring his progress and watching for any changes. The costs of his medical care keep adding up—surgery, aftermath of initial radiation, daily supplies, and now frequent follow-up appointments, lab work, and scans. We’re also preparing for the reconstruction surgery, which this surgery will require Robin to not be able to sit for at least 6 weeks. And he will be off work for at least 8 to 10 weeks for recovery. Plus, the Specialist Doctor is still wanting us to get scan done to pin point where the cancer has moved to target that area with more radiation. We have told them we would like to hold off on that at this time until we can catch up financially with all the current medical bills and trying to be able to afford to schedule the surgery.
The financial strain of these ongoing medical bills, daily supplies, and lost income is overwhelming. We’re reaching out for support to help cover these ongoing medical bills and care costs.
Any help will make a real difference for Robin’s comfort and recovery, and will give us some peace of mind as we focus on his health. Thank you for considering supporting our family during this time.
