I had dogsat Nala from the time she was still a puppy for a family friend. Last summer, that family friend was not able to keep her, and as I had already become close with her, I decided to take her in not long after her first birthday. For nearly a year now she's been a constant companion to myself, and even my cats. Unfortunately, on June 18th, just weeks before her 2nd birthday, she began experiencing symptoms of bloat, a condition that can quickly kill dogs if not treated right away. I rushed her to the emergency vet at 2 AM. My last dog passed away 5 years ago from what I suspect was bloat, and I couldn't lose a dog that isn't even 2 years old to it, especially as I just lost my cat of 18 years last month. I want Nala to live a long life like she did as well. After speaking with a doctor it turns out her spleen had flipped inside of her, with the doctor saying it's something that likely happened spontaneously. Nothing she did caused this, and even if it did, she doesn't deserve to be in this sort of pain and fear. She was just one of the few unfortunate dogs this sort of rare condition can happen to, and as a result, it's going to be incredibly expensive. Surgery will be required and she will likely need her spleen untwisted or outright removed. This procedure will mean she will not have it happen again in the future, but they will also perform a procedure to almost completely remove the possiblity if it happening to her stomach as well. The doctors say in terms of post-care issues, she should be fine. I have done as much as I can to help mitigate cost, but given the expenses, even with that I will heavily struggle to afford the cost of her care. Right now it seems the most I can do is receive more time to pay her vet bills off without interest rather than make significant cuts to the cost. My pay right now is neither consistent nor high enough to properly afford her vet bills with how expensive they are. Not even money I have saved up over time covers nearly enough of what it will cost. I do not like asking for help, but Nala needs this, and I feel like making a GoFundMe is the only way I can feel like I'm not failing her. I got to see her before leaving as she awaits surgery, and she was no less happy to see me than when I come home after a long day. Nala is the sweetest, most loyal dog, and she doesn't deserve this. She loves to play, she loves to go for walks, she loves to meet new people and animals despite being shy. She is full of love and I am asking for people to show her love in any way they can. She has many years left and I want to be there for her the way she's been there for me, but I can't do it by myself. Please, help us if you are able to lend a hand.
