I started Stitch Cafe, a crochet and knitting café, with the dream of creating a warm, welcoming space for community and creativity. After a long search, I secured a space in April 2024 and spent months building it out through major delays and unexpected costs. I opened in October 2024 while managing SBA loan payments, rent, and construction debt with very limited working capital. Since opening, the café has faced ongoing challenges outside of my control, including long-term scaffolding blocking the storefront and HVAC issues that have never been fully resolved. These conditions have made it difficult to operate at the level I originally planned.

At the same time, I’ve faced significant personal and health challenges, including long COVID and periods of fainting, while continuing to keep the café running and supporting the community that has grown here. Now, my landlord is selling the building and I’ve been given an uncertain path forward, including the possibility of a rent increase or lease termination. Because of this instability, I may need to relocate Stitch Cafe in order to keep it alive.

This campaign will help me move Stitch Cafe to a new location and stabilize the business so it can continue serving as a creative community space. Funds will go toward relocation costs, equipment transfer, and bridging the gap during this transition. I am deeply grateful for everyone who has supported Stitch Cafe. It has become more than a business—it is a community space I want to protect and continue building for as long as possible.

Keep Stitch Cafe Alive: Help Us Find a New Home

Hi! We are the co-founders of Seattle Cucina, a cooking school that leads classes with the goal of improving students’ nutrition, how they relate to their families and community, and how they participate in sustainable food systems. We are committed to encouraging young people to care about food.  Just two summers ago we were  teaching our very first cooking camp in Austin, Texas. Little did we know that this small adventure would blossom into a life-changing opportunity to share our love of food with Seattle communities. Seattle Cucina will offer after-school programs, summer camps, and special events for 4th-12th graders. We are passionate about serving all of Seattle, so we're also working on bringing these classes to public schools and community centers at a reduced cost. In addition, we will offer scholarship positions in our full-priced programs.  Our first community classes will begin in January 2018. This 9-week enrichment program will be offered to teens at the North Seattle Boys and Girls Club!  We are planning to begin offering after-school classes and camps by May of 2018.  With the support of professionals in the culinary and nutritional fields, we've created an engaging and impactful curriculum. Our classes center on practical cooking skills that serve as a tool to explore five key topics: the environmental and social impacts of food, food systems and cultures, and the fundamentals of healthy eating! We are on GoFundMe asking for $5,000 because we want to do a lot! Here is a rough, yet calculated break-down of the $5,000: $2,000 - Funding for Boys and Girls program (Jan 2018) $400 - Two scholarship spots (Summer 2018) $1,000 - Supplies/start-up costs $1,600- Cost of kitchen space (Summer 2018) Your support is HUGE. It not only impacts a small business with exciting potential, but most importantly, it benefits the youth of Seattle. Thank you so much for helping realize our vision to ensure that all youth nourish themselves and their community through mindful cooking, healthy eating habits, and an appreciation for food. With love, Alice and Erica
