<p>There's a day shelter that has 20 minute shower slots and you can do a load of laundry once a week. I try to shower every other day so someone else can get a spot on the long days.

<p>I feel used for a psych op. I have been explaining that for years. One day everything will just click in I guess.
</p><br />
<p>The future will figure this out - everything since 2020 - since 1989 - since long before....
</p><br />

<p>Gym membership $40 a month and a $60 annual fee.

<p>Don't know about laundry. I can hand wash a lot but there needs to be a place to dry it.

<p>I can't emphasize enough how this never needed to happen, there should have been rent assistance, I should have gotten disability, I would have never been isolated if it wasn't for covid and my own medical history and then a war zone (that had nothing to do with black lives matter) that was played out on my street and then the harassment from neighbors in the years that followed.

<p>This whole situation is not my fault and is completely fucked up. 
</p><br />
<p>Now it looks like $60 a month for storage, $40 for a shower (with a $60 annual fee to start), who knows about laundry, sleeping in a room full of strangers who might be sick, risk getting sick every fucking day, going to the library for safety, max tickets to get back to the storage/shelter area. I see myself being drained of all energy - and that's if nothing goes horrendously wrong.

<p>I need an advocate who sees the big picture here for what it is - I was practically trapped in my own home and then thrown outside. The city has mismanaged $40 million that would have covered rent and that I qualified to get. I don't understand how I could get rehoused or where or who to talk to about that. This was wrong. Anyone who hurt me on purpose is cursed.

<p>I have been medically isolated in my low-income studio apartment since 2020. 
</p><br />
<p>During the last five years people inside and outside of my building have taken advantage and terrorized me. 
</p><br />
<p>The building was designed to give supportive services and I feel it has been sabotaged. Current management is trying again to evict me - despite being well aware of my situation and resident services being paid $50,000 a year to help keep people housed.

<p>Do I need to tell my life story repeatedly to "earn" the right to exist? No. Human rights are not given nor revoked. They are inherent and inalienable. Forcing me to live through hell just to say this is also cruel and genocidal. This is the 21st century and we should all be able to live as long and as well as Jeanne Calment and Gregoris Tsahas: over the age of 100.

<p>I have no other home and nowhere else to go. Becoming unhoused after five years of isolation will likely kill me, if the unknown people who have been stalking me don't. Authorities assigned to my street seem to be participating. I have no one to call for help. It all feels like a scam - possibly to ruin Portland by having given me a deliberately bad experience. I'm not sure I ever really got to live here even though I moved here in 2012 and have lived in this apartment since 2015. 
</p><br />
<p>I have written multiple times to everyone I can - federal, state, and local officials. 
</p><br />
<p>I believe my internet communications have been sabotaged as well. I have streamed a peaceful protest every day and a website called twitch tracker shows that I had no activity recorded for most of the last year despite streaming every day. How else was I supposed to find an income or ask for donations or try to sell my art and music? 
</p><br />
<p>I am surviving under duress and have become unable to physically function like I did before 2020. I have applied for disability assistance multiple times. I did not make the lottery for section 8. My PTSD has been made significantly worse by the people harassing me on a daily basis, doing things to be deliberately hurtful that were never such severe problems before - like gassing my unit with chemicals, banging on my walls and ceiling so hard it feels like being beaten up, or attacking the building with weaponized sound. 
</p><br />
<p>I just found out yesterday that there was a measure [118] on the November 2024 ballot that would have given people a universal basic income. My neighbors inside the building have been trying to provoke me if I leave the unit and I have not been able to vote. That measure [118] or something like it could have easily saved my life if it had passed. I think individuals could stop carrying the burden of tax entirely and large corporations could easily pool corporate taxes into a compound interest account, the interest alone providing more than enough as it grows exponentially to pay for everyone's basic needs - even on a global scale. Money is not the problem. Flawed humans playing god are gatekeeping resources for their family, friends, favorites, and obedient followers. This is wrong. This has always been wrong.

<p>This is some form of social murder and it seems everything since 2020 has been part of a global human rights violation on a genocidal level. Universal human rights were established 77 years ago and I no longer trust anyone who claims to be on the side of progress or humanity who is not actively upholding and improving those 30 rights - which include housing, healthcare, education, food, clothes, the cultivation of one's personality, and even internet as it is the only place where we can establish and fulfill these rights for all people all the time. Please do not let people die for a convenient story. The truth doesn't change based on what you wanted it to say no matter who writes the history books. Intelligent people will always figure it out eventually, and if you won't let humanity evolve, what's the point? No one was born just to be a servant to anyone else. I refuse to fight, to beg, to die, or to be used.

<p>I have been surviving isolated and under duress for five years.

<p>My body has deteriorated and I cannot function like I did before 2020. I have not been able to leave my building, and I haven't felt I can even leave my unit since 2024 due to escalating neighbor harassment. They bang on the walls and ceiling so hard it feels like I am being beaten up, my small studio apartment has been gassed by unknown chemicals - often making me feel sick or pass out. I have no where else to go, but I also refuse to be terrorized out of my only home.

<p>Management has been confusing and unreliable. They've changed hands three times since 2020 as well, with the main owners still being a human rights based organization whose mission was supposed to be to keep vulnerable people housed. This is low income housing. I should not have been under the threat of eviction the entire time I have lived here (since March 2015...in Portland since 2012). 
</p><br />
<p>It is difficult for me to tell what is "helping me" and what is straight up corruption. 
</p><br />
<p>There's so much but I am trying to be brief. You could read the updates for some details of things that have happened.

<p>Everything since 2020 has felt like some kind of holocaust.

<p>Every single day I live in protest for universal human rights and I hope people care where all the dissidents have gone.

<div>Joe was born to this world with a tough hand. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) or essentially a defective heart valve.

<div>Joe has seen and endured an armies worth of hospitals, surgeries, medicine and the like. For 33 years he has taken every step in stride, with a smile and a "let's kick today in the nuts."

<div>Sadly, the treatments and medicine while extending his life also left his liver in a rough state and Joe began cancer treatments 6 years ago.

<div>Today he prepares each day to live it to the fullest as the cancer is now terminal.

<div>Battling every day, he finds joining the peace and happiness around him with more friends than I could ever count, the taste and feel of live music and the joys of everyday life with his true love, his fiance Amanda.

<div>We ALL have an amazing chance here to sacrifice just a bit to help Joe and Amanda pursue and enjoy his bucket list of items, and find some ease in the endless stress of finances and time.

<div>On Thursday, April 13, 2023, my nephew Ralph P Yarl was on his way to pick up his twin younger brothers from their friend's house a few blocks away from his house. He didn't have his phone. He mistakenly went to the wrong house, one block away from the house where his siblings were. He pulled into the driveway and rang the doorbell. The man in the home opened the door, looked my nephew in the eye, and shot him in the head. My nephew fell to the ground, and the man shot him again. Ralph was then able to get up and run to the neighbor's house, looking for help.

<div>Unfortunately, he had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up.

<div>Ralph Pual Yarl is a fantastic kid, and I am not just saying this because he is my nephew. He truly is. At school, he is a member of the Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team. Jazz and competition band. He is a section leader in the marching band; a scholar and one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri. He recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the metropolitan youth orchestra. He is a 2022 Missouri scholar academy alumni. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves them all.

<div>Last summer, Ralph attended Missouri Scholar’s Academy, where he got a full college life experience. His goal is to attend Texas A&amp;M to major in chemical Engineering. When asked how he plans to get into this university, he said, “Well, if they have a scholarship for music or academics, I know I can get it.”

<div>Ralph's teacher and friends describe him as “ a kind soul,” “quiet,” “friendly,” “well-mannered,” “always willing to help,” “super smart,” and a “musical genius.”

<div>Blackfish Gallery is the brainchild of a loose affiliation of artists interested in supporting each other professionally and exhibiting their work without the usual constraints of a commercial art gallery. They rented an empty storefront, and with their own labor and skills, they created a cooperative art gallery that opened in May 1979. The gallery has moved exhibition space twice since that time, and over 150 prominent Oregon and Washington artists have been represented as members of Blackfish Gallery over the years.

<div>We are on the move again! After 35 years in our beloved gallery, our building has been put up for sale and redevelopment. Although we knew this day might come, we are sad. However, we couldn’t be more grateful to our landlords, the Wongs, for our long tenure in a prime location at an "old Portland" rental rate. That sweet deal allowed the gallery to survive and thrive, even in hard times. After a long search, we have found the new very best home for our collective at 938 NW Everett St. in the historic Otis Elevator Building, just blocks from our current location. We are thrilled to be able to stay in the heart of the Pearl Arts District among neighboring galleries.

<div>However, cost-wise, things look different now.
</div>

</div>
<div>Though we have secured a fantastic new gallery space, the move comes with considerable and unexpected costs, putting overwhelming financial strain on our small not-for-profit. For starters, we face double the operating expenses of our former gallery, such as more utility costs, property taxes, and higher rent. We need to dress up the new space to accommodate the needs of our talented artists, and the gallery’s business needs, which means new drywall, a full paint job, new shelves and eventually, the funds to build a mezzanine office space. We are also cleaning out the artist studios we have rented out for the last decades, costing us lots of money for trash hauling, repairs and repainting. Anyone who has moved recently can easily understand there are all sorts of hidden costs. We have worked so hard and put hundreds of hours of our collective labor into these big jobs. An important point: Leaving our current space in tip-top condition has ensured that the Wongs will allow us to continue exhibiting artists from our underrepresented communities through our year-long BIPOC Curatorship Project in the Fishbowl Windows on NW 9th.

<div>With this big change comes big opportunities! In our new location, we are excited to announce a third exhibition space and a beautiful new art prints area where you can collect affordable art from some of your favorite Oregon artists. We plan to bring Portland more provocative exhibits, collaborative shows, and above all, opportunities for local Oregon artists to present the work they are driven to create, regardless of its commercial potential.

<div>The People’s Housing Project was founded in October 2021. We are a grassroots organization building emergency shelters and providing support services to help support the health and safety of houseless folks and our communities at-large.

<div>Until more housing is made available, we will continue to bring humanity to our unhoused neighbors across Portland. We are building temporary, transitional dwellings that allow people to sleep off of the ground. It gives them the basic dignity of room to stand up, a place to hang wet clothes, and allows people to sleep off of the ground.

<div>There are thousands of people sleeping on Portland's streets each night. By building these and other emergency shelters, we offer people without housing a safe, accessible place to live and rebuild while they secure permanent housing. They are designed to create warmth, accessibility and functionality

<div>As we expand our work, we will be able to include broader intersections of the community. We do not have years to spend deciding who gets to slowly build tiny houses on which of the many surplus plots of ground that are available in Portland. Politicians use words like "emergency" but do not act with resourcefulness or urgency. We need to provide care for people in need right now. The city is leaving trash to pile up. Toilets were placed but didn’t get cleaned out. Our solution is more humane, more effective, and costs less than what the city is offering. We are doing the work the city cannot or chooses not to do.

<div>This is not a permanent solution-- it is a vision of an alternative present, a pathway to survival and self-empowerment for people who are the most oppressed. Creating the structures for houseless folks to self-organize allows us to build a coalition between houseless Portland and housed Portland to work together to solve trash, addiction, and waste issues. If we come together as a community, we can care for the people the city has left behind.

Luckily, I didn't hit my head or paralyze myself when I landed. Instead I hit with the full force of the fall on the rim of a 5-gallon bucket--on my hip. <br /><br />Since I was in too much pain to walk, Megan helped me get to my bed and lay down. I was hoping it would calm down and just be a bad bone bruise. When I tried to stand up a few hours later, it was the most painful thing I have ever felt--I almost passed out from the pain. The next morning our dear friend Troy came to give us a ride to the hospital. It took almost an hour to get me into his car from my bed--which was 20 feet away. Sure enough, when we got the Xray's my femur was broken at the hip, right where the indentation of the bucket rim was. The ER Physician told me I needed emergency surgery, but they had to order special screws and a large metal plate. I was able to have the procedure two days after the initial break and not eating or drinking anything but a cup of water.<br /><br />The surgery was successful! I feel so blessed that I live in a place where this kind of emergency surgery is practiced and available. Luckily my Oregon Health Plan insurance will cover the cost of the surgery. But I'm out of work for at least two months while I heal and learn to walk again. There are many expenses to this process that insurance won't cover, on top of the regular bills. Any help is greatly appreciated. <br /><br />I'd love to see any of you in person while I'm healing up. They were scheduled to leave next week, but this interrupts those plans in a really unfortunate way.<br /><br />He's going to be laid up for at least two months while he recovers and won't be able to work or drive. Megan doesn't drive. They need to move the trailer from the job site next week, and need a place to park it and live until he recovers. This is entirely unplanned and they don't have money for that. Luckily he has OHP insurance, but otherwise they are really in trouble." <br /><br /><strong>The Goal (My Estimate)</strong><br /><br />Nik does have health insurance (thank god). But he will not be able to work for at least 2 months... This leaves Megan, alone, to take care of him and herself for this time. <br /><br />I decided to set the number to 4K, based on continuous income lost, while Megan tries to keep both of them afloat. But any amount helps. Enough small steps, from enough kind people, can get us to 1K and maybe even to the final mark.<br /><br />They have run into so many hurdles, especially this past year. They never ask for anything, they just suck it up and keep pushing on,  while still helping others when they are able.
