Hi, my name is Dominique, and asking for help like this is not easy for me.  I am currently facing an eviction filing scheduled for January 10th if I’m unable to come up with $1,600 to catch up on rent and a few essential bills. Preventing this filing is critical, as an eviction filing alone can permanently affect my housing record, even if the balance is later paid. This is my first place on my own, and I have been incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I moved here in October and I love my home. Losing my housing would mean having nowhere to go. This amount also includes past-due utilities — my internet service is at risk of disconnection, and my phone is currently only working through WiFi — as well as a past-due energy bill. These services are essential for job searching, communication, and daily stability. I have actively tried every available option to stay afloat. I filed for unemployment (EDD), but my claim was denied due to falsified statements made by my previous employer. I exhausted all standard appeals and am now required to file for a court hearing, which comes with out-of-pocket legal and filing costs I simply cannot afford. I have also opened a lawsuit against my former employer related to this situation, but that process is lengthy and unresolved. My partner is currently working and has another job starting soon, which we are very grateful for. Unfortunately, their hours were cut in November, and despite their continued hard work, love, and support, we have been struggling to catch up. They have also filed for EDD due to the reduction in hours, but like many assistance programs, help has not arrived in time. In the meantime, I am actively applying to jobs, interviewing, and taking any work that comes my way. I also live with multiple chronic health conditions that affect my ability to work consistently, but I continue to push myself and manage my health as best I can. I have filed for disability as well, but that process takes significant time. I have reached out to community resources, rental assistance programs, and local aid organizations, but funding is currently low or unavailable. I’ve reached a point where I am running out of options. Any funds raised will go directly toward covering rent to stop the eviction filing and help me remain housed while I continue working, pursuing my legal case, and waiting for assistance decisions.
