Update 6/22: It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a little over one month since Chavito’s surgery.  We had his follow-up appointment this morning, and we’re happy to share that his recovery is moving in the right direction. Chavito has regained more feeling on his left side than his right, which is an encouraging sign. He’s also wagging his tail again, and seeing that little tail move brings us so much joy and hope.  Like many dogs adjusting to life after surgery, Chavito is still getting used to his wheelchair. Right now, he’s a little scared of it, as are his children, but we’re taking things one step at a time and celebrating every small victory along the way.  The next big step in his recovery begins this Wednesday when he starts physical therapy. We know the road ahead may still be long, but we remain hopeful and committed to giving him every opportunity to live a happy, comfortable life; whether that means walking on his own again or finding new ways to enjoy the world around him.  We want to sincerely thank everyone who has donated, shared our fundraiser, sent prayers, and checked in on Chavito. Your kindness, support, and encouragement have helped us get this far, and we are incredibly grateful.  Please continue to keep Chavito in your thoughts as he begins this next phase of recovery. We can’t wait to share more updates with you soon. ❤️ Update 5/1: Chavito is going into surgery. The prognosis isn't as high as we had hoped, but this gives him the best chance at a life with less pain and more comfort and that means everything to us. Whether he walks again or not, he deserves that chance.  We know the road ahead will include recovery and physical therapy, and we're committed to doing everything we can for him.  Please keep him in your prayers as he goes through surgery today.   Update 5/1: Today is a big day for Chavito and out family. Chavito is having his MRI this morning. Based on the results, he may go straight into surgery.  We’re holding onto hope and asking for all the prayers, positive thoughts, and good energy you can send his way today. ❤️  Thank you for being here with us and supporting him through this. We’ll update as soon as we know more. Update 4/23: Update on my baby Chavito  We had to take him back to the doctor today after he started having blood in his urine and diarrhea from the prednisone. Even though we’ve been doing everything to keep him clean, he also developed a UTI.  We met with the neurologist, and they told us that after 48 hours, the chances of him walking again start to go down… and hearing that was heartbreaking. But I’m not giving up on him. Chavito is still here. He’s still fighting. He still looks at me with so much trust, and I know he deserves every chance at a happy, full life; whether that means walking again or learning a new way to move through the world. We are taking this one step at a time, doing everything we can for him, and holding onto hope and pray.  If you’re able to donate, it would help us more than we can put into words. And if not, please share his story. Truly, sharing his story helps just as much.  Thank you for loving him with us, for your prayers, and for standing by us through this.❤️ 4/21: Our sweet boy, Chavito, a 6 y/o Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, suddenly lost the ability to walk. One moment he was his happy, playful self… and the next, his back legs gave out completely. We rushed him to the vet, and we were given devastating news. He is suspected to have a severe case of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), where a ruptured disc is pressing on his spinal cord. Right now, Chavito cannot walk and cannot urinate on his own. He has also lost feeling in his back paws, which means his condition is critical. The only chance for him to walk again is emergency spinal surgery. Without it, he may be permanently paralyzed. The surgery requires advanced imaging (MRI) and a specialized veterinary neurologist. We were told the cost could range from $10,000 to $12,000, and even then, the outcome is uncertain. Despite everything, Chavito is still fighting. He looks at us with the same loving eyes, trusting us to help him through this. He’s a fighter! We are doing everything we can, but this has happened so suddenly and the cost is more than we can manage alone. We are asking for help to give Chavito a chance to walk again, to run again, and to live the happy life he deserves alongside his family and children. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean the world to us. Every penny or share helps so much! Thank you for your love, support, and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Love, Angie and Chavito
