<div>Casper came into our lives with a cloudy eye and a gentle spirit. What started as a suspected congenital defect quickly spiralled into something far more serious. Within days of his first vet visit, Casper lost the use of his back legs. We rushed him to emergency care, where they suspected a fall or injury and prescribed more pain relief. But Casper continued to deteriorate.

<div>After raising further concerns, our local vet referred us to Willows in Solihull, where a specialist suspected either Toxoplasma or FIP. Bloods were sent to a lab in Scotland, but while we waited, Casper’s condition worsened—he could no longer move or respond.

<div>An urgent MRI revealed significant brain compression. Casper was placed in ICU. I was called in to prepare for the worst. He was lethargic, barely present, and visibly suffering. The team confirmed signs of FIP and began GS treatment immediately—first by injection, then oral medication. Casper remained hospitalised for 13 days, receiving intensive care: a catheter, feeding tube, anti-inflammatories, and medication to reduce brain pressure.

<div>The vet bill has now reached £10,000. Casper’s insurance is disputing the MRI (£4,000), and has refused to cover the FIP diagnosis due to timing—his first visit fell within the 14-day window of his free policy.

<div>I’m currently caring full-time for my disabled 4-year-old son, who has complex medical and developmental needs. He won’t start school until September 2026, and I’m unable to work while coordinating his care. This makes the financial strain even harder to bear.
</div>

<div>Casper is more than a pet—he’s family. He’s a playful, loving little boy who’s brought so much comfort to our home. My son absolutely adores him. Casper is his therapeutic companion, often curled up in my neck or shouting for more Dreamies. He’s a dream—he’s just had a really sad start to life.

<div>I’m not someone who finds it easy to ask for help. But Casper deserves every chance. He’s fighting so hard, and we’re doing everything we can to support him.

<div>We’re fundraising for £6,000, the portion of the vet bill not covered by insurance. I’ll continue to post updates, especially as we hear more about the MRI dispute.
