<div>If you know Kipp, Parkside Lounge's sound engineer, you know he is the most generous, caring, hardworking, and fun-loving guy in the music business. He treats every band and performer with respect and care, and he seems to have a never ending supply of kind words and optimism.

<div>Kipp has been battling a bunch of health issues over the last few years and just found out he has the big C. We aren't going to get into too many details because that is for him to share, but the bottom line is that he is not going to be able to work as much during treatment. He has spent his life supporting artists and musicians that are on the fringe - because that is where the magic is - but the fringe doesn't have as many safety nets: pension funds, benefits, etc... but what we do have is the collective power of a community who can all chip in a few bucks and make a mountain of difference in Kipp's life for the next few years.

<br /><strong>"Conduct your blooming in the noise and the whip of the whirlwind." </strong><br /><strong>-Gwendolyn Brooks<br /></strong><br /><strong>From Tara:</strong><br />I've been looking for a building for at least two years before I happened to spot this building at 56th and State Street in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood.  Washington Park is predominantly Black neighborhood that is home to several dynamic, small community orgs, at least three schools, and many wonderful stories that are not included in the larger narrative of the city. <br /><br />While dreaming out loud, I posted on Facebook that I would like to get this building so I can run classes and events and possibly host guest residencies for people who would like to do work in the neighborhood at what will become The Whirlwind Center. I'm also planning to partner and share this space with other community orgs and individuals that have already invested time, energy, and resources in the South Side. I was surprised and excited to see how many people believe and trust me to begin what will be an exciting development for a city that I love dearly.  Although I have been working in the arts for young people and people of color for 20 years, I think it's time for me to start a space that addresses needs with a new, more inclusive vision of, for, and with long-time South Side residents. <br /><br /><strong>Here are some of the things that I'm envisioning:</strong><br />-writing workshops and book clubs<br />-literacy classes<br />-cooking demos<br />-dance classes<br />-tax prep sessions<br />-doula training<br />-technology education for young people (coding, building computers, etc.)<br />-and a space that would be available for small, intimate cultural events and family celebrations. <br /><br /><strong>I am asking for your help in purchasing this property and making small renovations.</strong> We've already begun steps to purchase this property and talked to investors. If you don't have access to money that folds, jingles, or swipes, please share this campaign widely on social media. Help Tara Betts Buy a Community Arts Space!

<p>We're on a quest! It's top priority! And we need your help!<br /><br />On July 13th Jimmy G from the legendary NYHC band, Murphy's Law, had to check into Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens which sadly lead from one surgery to another, even resulting in him loosing his gallbladder. <br />He's dealing with a lot of pain and will need reconstructive surgery in the weeks to come. <br /><br />Needless to say he is unable to work and does not have health insurance so it's time for all of us to step it up and raise a couple of bucks for our friend and the greatest frontman in hardcore. <br /><br />No amount is too small so let's unite as the big-hearted scene Jimmy has dedicated his entire life to. <br /><br />Please spread the word and show him as much love as you can because you know you'll get it back tenfold in fun, laughter and Jäger at the next Murphy's Law show. <br /><br />Let's help Jimmy out!!

Jimmy G needs our help

Hello all, <br /><br />My name is Jeremy and here is the situation at hand.<br /><br />This little lady was found by my wife this morning after she got to work. Hearing tires screech in the street and a car driving off, she then heard the sounds of a dog in extreme agony.<br /><br />The dog was carefully covered and taken to a local vet where we were they are able to set her broken leg. The issue at hand is her hip is also damaged and will require surgery.<br /><br />All funds donated will be used for the medical attention needed for this little lady as well as any additional rehab. She of course had no collar/tags and is not chipped.<br /><br />Any of you who see this and know me, may recollect that I never grew up an aimal lover but was "converted" over te last decade. You also know I will RARELY, if ever ask for help with anything!<br /><br />It was certainly divinie intervention that my wife was able to be there to help, but the surgery is well outside of our budget. The initial reset of the leg was approx. $700 and we have taken care of that. <br /><br />Had this been a call to animal rescue, the dog would most likely have been euthanized. I know many pet lovers/owners and yes, I am reaching out to you all to help in any way possible.<br /><br />Some may say it was not our place to take the dog into the vet for attention, but I believe any life is worth saving if possible.<br /><br />Thank you all for taking the time to read this, but most importantly, thank you for your support.
