 I’m going to the World Championships!

 Honestly, that still feels slightly ridiculous to write.

 This year has been my first year competing individually in Functional Fitness. That somehow led to qualifying for the British Championships, then representing England at the European Championships in August… and now I’m officially registered to represent Great Britain at the 2026 iF3 Masters World Championships in Aruba this October.

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Euros was one of the most humbling sporting experiences I’ve ever had.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I finished last. I had one DNF, in the handstand event. There were moments when I seriously questioned whether I belonged there and, at one point, whether I even wanted to carry on.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 But I did.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I kept turning up. I kept trying. I did things I genuinely didn’t think I could do and came home having learnt an enormous amount about myself as both an athlete and a person.

</div>
<div>
 And somewhere amongst all of that, I realised that perhaps success doesn’t always have to mean where you finish.
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 When I found out I’d qualified for Worlds, my first reaction was that I probably wouldn’t go.
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I don’t have every skill. I know the odds are stacked against me. There’s every possibility I’ll find myself at the bottom of the leaderboard again.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 But I kept coming back to the same thought:

 How many times in life do you get the opportunity to represent your country at a World Championship?
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Maybe I’ll never get this opportunity again.
</div>

</div>

 So I’ve taken the opportunity. I’m registered, and I’m going.
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 The 2026 iF3 Masters World Championships take place in Aruba from 22–25 October and, as an amateur athlete, competing is entirely self-funded.
</div>

 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Between competition entry, flights, accommodation and the essential costs of travelling to compete, getting there will cost several thousand pounds. My husband will also be travelling with me so that I have someone there supporting me throughout the competition.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 I’ve set a fundraising target of £2,000 to help make competing at Worlds financially possible. We’ll be contributing towards the costs ourselves, but reaching this target would make an enormous difference.
</div>

 There is absolutely no expectation to donate. But if you’d like to be part of getting me onto that competition floor in Aruba, any contribution, however small, would mean more than you probably realise.

Help Emma Represent GB at the Functional Fitness Worlds

<div>The Bluetits Chill Swimmers group began in September 2014 by its founder, Sian Richardson, to share her love of cold-water dipping, before officially becoming a Social Enterprise in 2020, and a CÍC in 2025, to further support the ever-growing community. A core value of The Bluetits is ‘challenging our limits, together’, and that looks different to everybody. Whether that’s joining in on a first swim, taking part in one of their events, or swimming the Channel! The Bluetit community is here to support and encourage everyone.

<div>On 12th June 2024, the Bluetit 1 Channel Relay Team challenged their own limits together by completing their own relay Channel crossing. The dedication they all put into this journey, and the exhilaration they felt afterwards, inspired The Bluetits to help facilitate other Bluetits to achieve this same goal and, from this, the Bluetit 3 Channel Relay Team was born! This wonderful team will be attempting to cross the Channel, supported and facilitated by The Bluetits. As part of this, each team member will be fundraising to cover their own costs for this adventure, anything raised above this is being donated by them to The Bluetits to go back into the community.

<div>Hi, I'm Makala, a keen open water swimmer who around 5 years ago found the Bluetits and lost my wetsuit, I could never have imagined on that first swim how much my life was going to change, and when I say changed I don't mean a little.

<div>I suffered from depression and anxiety for many years, when I turned 48 I decided it was time to change things and took up training for triathlons and ultra running, it was a massive help more than I could have hoped for.
</div>

</div>
<div>In October 2018 a Facebook post led me to the Bluetits and was hooked from my first swim - I had a clear head, no thought of anything other than......wow it's cold, breathe breathe....a quiet mind is not something I could ever remember having, I just knew was going to help me heal.
</div>

<div>5 years of being a Bluetit has helped me in so many ways it has given me the confidence to see a counsellor, and to change my path.
</div>

<div>With the support and investment from Bluetits HQ I became an open water swim coach, a Bluetit Swim Walk Guide and I support and encourage 20 other Bluetit swim coaches. This would never have happened if I hadn't taken that first plunge.

<div>On July 9th 2023 I will be taking on the English Channel swim, 21 miles of me and the sea, a massive mental and physical challenge.
</div>

<div>Sea safety is part of my job now and with an ever-growing community it's something important to The Bluetits and we would love to make water safety training available to volunteers across the organisation.
</div>

</div>
<div>Training costs the organisation around £300 per volunteer so I've set myself the target of raising enough to train 21 volunteers, that's one for every mile of the English Channel.
</div>

<div>You'll see in the information that some of the Bluetit Flocks have decided to join my fundraising team and set up their own 'Channel Challenge' each thinking of fun ways to clock up the 21 miles in their own groups.

Sadly on Friday the 4th December we lost an amazing man after a 4 year battle with cancer. He brought so much to everyones lives and always bought out the best in whoever he met. We've had so many people ask if we would like flowers or donations for his funeral however we know he would love to give back to the people that helped him during his final weeks.<br /><br />Our chosen cause is Willen Hospice for all the good work and help they have given us in this difficult time.
