<div>We are raising money for Elke Finley, our beautiful beloved friend, who has just received a shocking diagnosis of plasma cell Leukemia. This is a very rare and very aggressive form of cancer that attacks the red and white blood cells in the body by over running them with too many plasma cells.

<div>Our intention with this fund raising campaign is to support Elke over the next few weeks and months while undergoing treatment and the potential pursuit of alternative treatments, which are very costly. This fund is also aimed to help Elke and her family with living and travel expenses while they are all uprooted from their out of town or out of country homes to be in Victoria.

We shared her vinyl records and bootleg cassettes, passed hand-to-hand at lesbian socials and political meetings. We played "Ain't Life a Brook" on repeat as we sobbed out the grief of a breakup. We stood swaying in dark auditoriums surrounded by our sisters singing along: "By my life be I spirit, by my heart be I woman, by my eyes be I open, and by my hands be I whole."<br /><br />If you have ever wondered how you might give back to her, for all the times she spoke the words in your heart, now's your chance.

<div>All that's missing is a guitar. The gorgeous professional touring instrument with Ferron's name inscribed  in the fretboard fell victim to an accident involving a trailer hitch. It's beyond repair.

<div>Ferron has been invited to prepare for a show July 8-10. And another show, more magical: July 26-31 on festival land in Michigan! She is full of joy -- and some anxiety. She needs a good guitar to replace the broken one. She doesn't know whether she will have one in time -- or ever.
</div>

<div>She reached out to me and asked, in a roundabout way, extra hesitantly, whether I might somehow be able to make a new guitar possible.
</div>

<div>Why did she have my number? I found hers a long while ago, in the middle of one night, when I was searching and re-searching to find a way to share my gratitude for her poetic music: the soundtrack of my life. I contacted her, and miracle of miracles, she was open to talking to me, and we have since become friends.
</div>

<div>Ferron's wish for a 70th birthday gift is a guitar from the workshop of Eric Schoenberg, the artisan who created her original touring guitar. Eric has a beautiful instrument ready to go to her. Sounding from the structure of Indian rosewood, spruce, and Honduras mahogany, adorned with Gabon ebony, maple, koa, and abalone, the treble will sing sweet and clear while counterpoint and bass lines will coexist peacefully.<br />

Guitar for Ferron - and a new book!

On September 15th a sister/friend suddenly died.  This is someone I spent 15 years trying to save from the very demise she came to.  And then 2 weeks later my dad's best friend over dosed on heroin.  Then a couple of weeks after this, I had to leave my home suddenly, where I was the house manager, because of a potential violence towards me by a tenant. I let someone in who seemed good at first, and then found out they have a mental illness but are not taking their medication, so they became totally paranoid, deluded and deranged towards me.   It was very scary.  I couldn't stay there any longer, in fact I had to leave immediately, just grab a bit of stuff and flee to a woman's safe house.   I have moved into a new place but wasn't prepared for this, so have had to reach out for others' help.   I see it as I am starting a whole new life, although this was not my plan. I instantly lost a person I have known a long time.  The whole universe shifted when she died.  Then my dad's best friend dying.  I knew him too.  And then losing my home and job at the same time. It has all been a big shock and taking a while to adust to.  I am asking for donations to enable me to begin a whole new life, and to help me get back on my feet.  At first it was very upsetting and scary, and I am still grieving the loss of all of this. Sometimes life forces us into new directions and the best thing to do is just go forth with trust and faith.  Not always easy, but it truly is the best way.

Starting A New Life!

On Friday morning there was an attempted break in of our house and our cats were set loose. <br />Somehow Momo must have gotten out of the yard and got hit by a car. <br /><br />Chenoa was woken from a nightmare where Momo was sick and her little ginger kitten heart died in her arms only to find upon waking both the cats missing. Mushi, she spotted in the yard and he ran up to her to alert her about Momo. She was under a bush unable to stand, meowing softly. <br /><br />Poor Momo was in shock, having fractured her pelvis but somehow managed to drag herself home where we could find her just in time. The vets said if it was half an hour later she would have been dead. <br /><br />She needs surgery and strict cage rest for the next two months. The surgery and all the vet time is terribly, terribly expensive. Thankfully we managed to find a vet who will do the surgery on Wednesday. If that goes well, and she's okay in the crate then her prognosis is good. <br /><br />All of your amazing generosity and support has helped us save our little baby.
