Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
My name is Sally Zhiyi Lan. I am a mom of two and a teacher in Richmond, Virginia, and today I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for my dear mother.
The Challenges She’s Faced
My mom has always been the pillar of our family, but the last two years have been incredibly difficult for her. After facing a devastating financial crisis, she lost her home and her life savings. The weight of that loss led her into a deep depression, and in the midst of that struggle, she stopped prioritizing her own health and let her insurance lapse.
A Sudden Turn of Events
A month ago, the unthinkable happened. My mother suffered a stroke. Because she was struggling privately, we didn't realize what had happened until three days later. The delay has made her journey much harder; she has lost mobility on her left side, and her speech has been significantly impacted.
The Current Situation
Currently, my mother is in a hospital in China undergoing recovery therapies. My father is by her side daily, but since they are both retired and without insurance, the financial responsibility falls entirely on our family. Being so far away in the U.S. makes it difficult to help physically, so I am doing everything I can to support them financially. However, the mounting medical bills and the cost of private rehab are more than I can manage alone.
How You Can Help
We are fighting to give my mom a chance at a quality life again. Your donations will go directly toward:
Medical & Hospital Bills:
Covering the costs of her acute care and monitoring.
Rehabilitation:
Intensive physical and speech therapy to help her regain her movement and voice.
Living Expenses:
Supporting my parents' daily needs while they remain at the hospital.
Home Accessibility:
Purchasing the necessary equipment to ensure she can move safely once she is discharged.
Every donation, no matter the size, is a step toward her recovery. If you aren't able to donate, please consider sharing this page with your network. We are so grateful for your prayers, your kindness, and your support during this exhausting time.
I am personally managing this fundraiser from my home in Virginia. Every dollar raised will be transferred directly to my father to cover the hospital's billing and mom's upcoming rehabilitation equipment.
With gratitude,
Sally
