Keep Eli's Mile High Club Alive in Oakland

<div>I'm running the Maybelline Women's Half-Marathon in New York City on Sunday, April 27, with a goal to raise $1,310—$100 for every mile—to support the CUNY School of Law’s vital work protecting international students and community members from unlawful detention and deportation.

Students and faculty provide holistic legal support—covering everything from citizenship and asylum to housing and public benefits—while advocating for systemic change and supporting some of the most marginalized and criminalized groups in our society.

<div><strong>CLEAR Clinic:</strong> CLEAR provides free legal representation, know-your-rights workshops, and support for community organizing—primarily serving Muslim, Arab, South Asian, and other communities in New York City who are disproportionately targeted by national security and counterterrorism policies. CLEAR’s work is defined by deep partnerships with community organizations and has helped hundreds of individuals navigate FBI interviews, law enforcement searches, and the complex consequences of national security practices.

Running for NYC international students!

<div>Hello. I have started this fundraiser to help my great friends, Glen and his wife Christine, raise money to help cover Glen's ongoing medical costs. Last week Glen had surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his pancreas. In the last 10 years, Glen has successfully fought cancer three times; he was diagnosed with his 4th bout of cancer in January 2024, and last week he had yet another surgery. As of right now, it is unclear what further treatments Glen will need, but as this new cancer had already begun to spread, he undoubtedly will need more treatment. Each bout with cancer has involved surgeries (at least 6 so far), chemotherapy, radiation, and ongoing testing. So far Glen has lost his spleen, gall bladder, part of his liver, part of his pancreas, and he has had two colon resections. And yet he fights on, for himself, his wife, and their lovely children, Gabriel and Lucia. For his most recent cancer, Glen has had to go on disability. Insurance has only paid part of his treatments; even before this fourth cancer, Glen and Christine had outstanding hospital bills from previous cancer treatments. Worrying about money, and how he will continue to support his family, is making Glen's recovery even harder. Any little bit you can donate will help Glen and Christine.

Baby Registry

On October 5, 2018, our friend Robert Valtierra was taken to the ER when he suddenly lost his ability to speak, walk, or see normally.  Since then, he has been undergoing an extensive battery of tests to try and determine the cause.  So far the doctors have detected an inflammatory lesion in his brain stem along with bleeding, which is causing his symptoms.  But it is still unknown why Robert, a healthy individual before being admitted to the hospital, has suddenly been afflicted by this illness.  He is being treated and is fully aware of what is happening, however his vision continues to remain impaired and he cannot walk or talk without assistance.  He is fighting through this, but the long term prognosis is still unknown.  His wife Serena, our dear friend since high school, has been heartbroken.  She has spent endless hours at the hospital by Robert's side, all while trying to take care of their young daughter Elisa.  Thankfully, she has had lots of friends and family that have offered to help, but as you can imagine, this has been a difficult time for her.  She would not be able to go through this alone.  As the days go by, Robert and Serena will have many challenges to face and we are hoping this GoFundMe site will at least assist with the financial burdens they are already facing.  Please consider donating to help our friends Serena and Robert and their daughter Elisa.  Your donation will help with Robert's medical costs and daily living expenses so that Serena can focus on taking care of her family.  We are hoping Robert can come home soon so that their family can be together again.  Thank you so much in advance!  <br /><br />Elaine and Jessica
