<span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);">Hello everyone!</span><br /><br /><span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);">We have about a year and a half of operation under our belt. Last year was one of many challenging ups and downs but most importantly it was a year of learning priceless lessons. Our business became destabilized due to a decision made by the property owners in Sloansville NY, to remove our access to the only housing on the land. With luck, prayer and support of our ancestors and higher beings, The Black Yard Farm Collective was able to gain access to a lease on a property in Washington county NY. <br /></span><br /><font color="#333333"><span>Moving can be stressful and hard in general but moving a farm business and starting over has proven to be even more challenging and stressful. We are having to build new relationships with folks and find new channels to market our products in order to be profitable. We also are reinvesting in startup costs like prepping areas for growing annual vegetables, building out deer fencing and putting up a greenhouse. It’s extremely frustrating because we already invested in these costs on the other land and were taken advantage of. It feels like we are working 3x harder than we should, making up for all the time, money, sweat and positive energy that was invested and lost on  the previous land.<br />We just want to Farm and it feels like we have yet to have the opportunity to try and do that fully without having to face extreme adversity. <br />It’s already challenging going into these mostly white spaces as black people, and having to deal with the racism and discomfort that inevitably comes along with that. We would just like to be able to finally be in a situation where we can give our all to try and establish a successful farm business while creating safe space for other black people and folks of color to learn and exist.<br /></span></font><br /><b>Since relocating we were able to accomplish a lot  including </b><br />
<ul>
<li><span>Successfully moving our operation on short notice and still growing enough produce to supply some wholesale orders, a farmers market, and a soup kitchen in the Bronx with no greenhouse or irrigation setup </span>

</li>

<li><span>Expanding our flock of sheep and herd of goats with our first round of successful lambing and kidding in the midst of moving </span>

</li>

<li><span> Connecting with two supportive landowners who are in alignment with our mission and actively work to build relationships with us as well as providing us secure land access and a clear pathway to land ownership</span>

</li>

<li><span>Keeping all of our enterprises going which include sheep for wool and meat, goats for meat and agro-tourism,annual vegetables and cut flowers.</span>

</li>

</ul><br />We envision transitioning The Black Yard Farm collective into a producer cooperative where we will be able to partner with other small agriculture related businesses to build community and market our goods under one umbrella while creating and sharing in ownership of land and resources that support each of us.
<br /><br />We are incredibly grateful to everyone following our journey and supporting us monetarily and/or in spirit. It will relieve a significant amount of stress and insecurity if we are able to raise these funds to continue to do this very necessary work. Completing this goal will help secure us and allow us to continue to build and grow in a way that honors our bodies, spirits and the creation of Safe inclusive spaces for black people, folks of color and any and everyone who is in support of folks being able to exist in nature and one another in symbiotic ways.<font color="#333333"><span><b><br /></b></span></font>

Black Yard Farm 2022 community support

<p>Hi, my name is Sophie and I am fundraising to help an Inuk family of 6 go visit their homeland and their family this summer. During the pandemic, many of us have suffered from not being able to travel to see our families and loved ones who live outside of the Atlantic provinces. We can all relate to the longing to be home and to hug our loved ones. This family hasn't been able to go home for many years, some of the children have never met their grandparents. This summer they are very keen to travel up North because their grandmother has been diagnosed with cancer. The cost to travel up North is prohibitive. Let's support them to reunite with their relatives and, for the youngest children, to discover their homeland, their culture and their roots. We are trying to raise the funds as quickly as possible to get them home this summer. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and will be another step toward reconciliation and supporting an Inuk family connect with their beautiful culture!

<div><strong>Hello Friends of Star Route Farm and CAA!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As you might imagine, all of us here at Catskills Agrarian Alliance, The 607 CSA, and Star Route Farm have been processing the chaotic onslaught of recent executive orders targeting organizations and work like ours.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As massive federal budget cuts undermine public health, education, and food access, we feel an even more acute responsibility to meet the needs of our communities. We are all witnessing the conflagration of corporate greed, increasing global suffering and poverty, the loss of gender-affirming care, exacerbated food and housing insecurity, ongoing complicity in genocides, and devastating environmental disasters. It is not good.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We need to face these challenges together.
</div>
<div>We refuse to submit to unjust systems that prioritize profit over people and the planet.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The livelihoods of small farmers are being directly threatened, as is our mission to prioritize human and environmental well-being. Business as usual will not meet the challenges ahead as we face the termination of various funding channels. We thank you for investing in our collective work as friends, allies, and past supporters.

The project reached a minimum of 300 families twice a week, and was a great success, beloved by all involved. This year, the bottom fell out of funding and so we’re hoping to fundraise with our partners up to <strong><em>$150,000</em></strong> to cover food purchases and distribution expenses.

</div>
<div>Last year we started to donate food to Albany Free Food Fridges when we were able to. We did not have funding for this burgeoning relationship and we are looking to fund regular distributions with them and possibly other community based organizations in the region. Albany Free Food Fridge is a pivotal food access resource for communities experiencing food insecurity in the Capital Region by providing fruit, vegetables and ready to eat meals through anonymous and direct food access points. Our fundraising goal for mutual aid work in the Capital Region that includes working with Albany Free Food Fridge is <strong><em>$10,000.</em></strong>

Star Route Farm 2025 Food Sovereignty Fund

This page is being organized by the friends of Brad Quarrie.  Brad has been fighting cancer since 2014, and the cancer has returned again.  Brad's hope lies in a unique treatment available only in the United States which relies on Brad's own cells to create a vaccine.  Time and time again, Brad's body has recovered faster and stronger than doctors ever expected, so we believe that given a chance, Brad's cells will win this battle.  We need help, to get Brad this unique treatment.     <br /><br />We asked Brad to tell his story, so you can get a sense of this remarkable, gentle and talented human being.<br /><br />Here is Brad's story:<br /><br />"Let me start by telling those of you who may not know me well, I am a fighter. I don’t go looking for fights, but when I have to, I fight hard.  And I have so much to fight for! I have a beautiful wife who has been the girl of my dreams for almost 25 years. I have three beautiful daughters whom I plan to see grow up and do amazing things with their wonderful talents, and together we live in one of the most beautiful places imaginable, Lunenburg Nova Scotia. I also take great pride in my work. I design and build pretty much whatever anyone can think of, and I love a challenge.<br /><br />In February 2014, I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Leiomyosarcoma. It is untreatable, at least in Canada. Chemotherapy and radiation have no beneficial effect on this cancer, but surgery can.<br /><br />I began my journey with what I thought was a potential hernia or swollen appendix. After a few days of discomfort I went to the hospital and they performed a CT scan which revealed the true story, a tumor. This came as a complete surprise to me, I had never felt healthier in my life, it must be a mistake!?<br /><br />Within weeks I had been fast-tracked through the process, being relatively young and having a rare form of cancer, I quickly became a favourite among my team of physicians. Waiting only days for MRIs and getting calls on my cell directly from my surgeons, I thought, I can beat this. When the time came for surgery, my friends rallied for me, as there was a nurses strike at the hospital and all surgeries were cancelled the day of my surgery. They all called and emailed the CEO of the QEII, and she finally agreed that this was a necessary procedure and the surgery went on as planned. <br /><br />After surgery, I exceeded all expectations of the medical team. I was eating solid food a day before it was thought possible. I was walking two days after having the top cut off my hip and screwed back together (a very cool procedure allowing them to keep my abdominal muscles intact). Then tossing my walker aside for a pair of crutches and going to see my friends at the local market only six days after my surgery. <br /><br />Round Two <br />The week between Christmas and New Years, 2015. I found another lump in the same place. This time I was sure I had given myself a hernia, perhaps from getting back to work too soon? So I went to see my G.P. and she gave me that look and said, ‘That is not a hernia!’. Back in for more CT scans and biopsies, and sure enough, just an inch from the first site, another tumor. This surgery took place late in January of 2016. Nothing cool about this one, just the standard groin to sternum incision. Recovery from this was was not as fast, but due only to some complications from the surgery. Back into the hospital for five more days with adhesions before my body corrected the problem by itself. This surgery landed right in the middle of my favourite job ever, due in part to the amazing clients who will know who they are when they read this. We met our deadline and the project was the perfect distraction.<br /><br />Round Three<br />January 2017. Routine check-up. CT scan revealed swollen lymph nodes in my chest. Again my optimism got the better of me. I figured the girls had just had bad coughs for weeks, I probably have the same thing. So my surgeon asked that we wait a bit and so another CT in 4 months time. Well all hell broke loose in those four months. Metastatic cancer. The CT shows a tumor in the top left lobe of my lung, one in the bottom right lobe of my lung, and one on my left hip, confirmed by puncturing my lung and taking a biopsy. Stage four cancer.<br /><br />So what does one do with all this recovery time on their hands? Research, and plenty of it! There is a lot going on around the world in the field of cancer, and for whatever reason, we don’t hear about much of it here. There are great strides being made in Germany, in America and Cuba among others.<br />The problem with having a ‘rare cancer’? Not a lot of time and resources are committed to finding a cure, and for that I cannot fault anyone. It just come down to numbers.<br /><br />All of my research has pointed to one clinic. They began in Germany a few decades ago, and now the founder’s son runs a clini, in Santa Barbara, California. They have a unique history of complete long-term remissions of advanced and standard-therapy resistant cancers. The treatment begins with a trip to a clinic in Mexico, where they would make a vaccine from my healthy cells, and begin a week of treatments. Upon completing that round of treatments, I would be sent to the clinic in Santa Barbara for two to three more weeks of various treatments and procedures. At the end of the stay, I come home with a five month supply of vaccine for self administering. At the end of that five month period, I would be invited back for a check up, and given another round of the personalized vaccine to complete the six month treatment."<br /><br />We know that Brad's frends will rally to his side, but we will need additional help. Can you help us help Brad?

Brad's cancer treatment plan.

Aube Giroux

<div>Hi everyone, my name is Aube, and I’m organizing this fundraiser to support my dear friend Dieulique as he works toward fulfilling his dream of studying in Québec.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I met Dieulique, a talented educator and climate advocate from Haiti, in 2023 while collaborating on a community solar energy project. As the co-founder and national coordinator of the Haiti Climate Network, and an elementary school teacher who was awarded “National Teacher of the Year” in 2022, he has spent his life uplifting others through education, activism, and hope.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>During our project together, Dieulique organized a hands-on solar installation training for community members that culminated in the installation of a solar street light in a neighbourhood that had long been unsafe after dark. His leadership was so inspiring. His kind heart and commitment to climate justice were unmistakable. We instantly became friends, and have stayed in touch ever since.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong> The situation in Haiti</strong>
</div>
<div>Haiti is currently facing one of the most severe humanitarian crises in its history. Daily survival—access to food, safe shelter, clean water, and basic medical care—has become a struggle for millions. Armed groups now control most of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding regions. Many families live on just a few dollars a day.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Then, just recently, Hurricane Melissa struck, destroying homes, farms, roads, health facilities, and water systems. The storm has made an already devastating situation even worse, deepening displacement, hunger, and insecurity.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dieulique and his family have endured tremendous hardship. They have been directly affected by gun violence and have had to move repeatedly to seek safety. Despite all this, he continues to give his time, energy, and heart to help others in his community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Why we are fundraising</strong>
</div>
<div>For years, Dieulique has dreamed of pursuing further studies in Canada so he can continue building on his knowledge and skills and build a better life for himself and his family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I feel deeply honoured to be Dieulique's sponsor . We are aiming to raise $10,000 to help cover:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<ul>
<li>Application and immigration fees
</li>
<li>Travel costs from Haiti to Québec
</li>
<li>Lodging
</li>
<li>Tuition and educational expenses
</li>
<li>Basic support as he gets established
</li>
</ul>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dieulique has no family in Canada, so your support means everything. He is an extraordinary human being who has dedicated himself to serving others despite unimaginable challenges. Helping him take this next step is not only an act of kindness and generosity — it is an investment in someone who is determined to create a better future and make the world a better place.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you so much for reading, for sharing, and for supporting Dieulique. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will truly change the course of his life.
