My name is Jacquelyn, and I am reaching out as a mother fighting for justice for my son, Daniel McGee. On Wednesday, December 10, Daniel was brought to court for a probation violation, even though he had already completed his probation in October. The violation was based on an alleged DWI for which Daniel had not yet been tried or found guilty. Despite our attorney’s request for a continuance until the DWI case could be heard, the judge refused and proceeded with the probation violation hearing. The officer involved was caught contradicting his own notes on the stand, and Daniel’s lab results showed a .06—well below the legal limit. Still, the judge found Daniel guilty and sentenced him to 20 to 33 months in prison. Throughout the trial, the judge acted more like a prosecutor than an impartial party, and Daniel did not have a jury of his peers. This experience has left our family devastated and desperate for help. We believe everyone deserves a fair trial and that Daniel’s rights were ignored. We want to appeal this unjust judgment, but we cannot do it alone. I have worked since I was 15, but I am currently out on short-term leave due to a medical condition, making it impossible to cover the legal expenses on my own. Daniel has endured so much already—he survived a severe car accident in 2020, was life-flighted to Chapel Hill, and now lives with constant pain from the plates and pins in his body. Most importantly, Daniel is a father. His sons and daughters need him home, raising them, teaching them, and caring for them. Our family is asking for your support to help us hire a qualified attorney and fight for Daniel’s freedom. Any help you can give would mean the world to us and bring us one step closer to justice. Thank you for reading our story and for standing with us in this difficult time.
